YouTube rolls out creator-focused feature Hype in India: What is it, and how do you use it?

YouTube has made Hype, a feature that lets creators gain more traction and reach the Leaderboard, available in India. With the feature, creators now have the ability to 'Hype' their videos, and it will help creators get discovered, as 'reaching new viewers can be a hurdle,' said Google India in a blog post published on Tuesday, July 15. The feature will appear just below the Like button of videos posted by YouTubers. The more the number of 'Hypes' the creator's video gets, the higher it will climb on the Leaderboard of the top 100 hyped videos. Users can only Hype a YouTube video three times per week free of charge. This feature will only be available for creators with less than 5,00,000 subscribers. Users can Hype a video posted by a creator only in the first seven days after the video is published, and as mentioned earlier, only three videos can be hyped per week for free. When a video is hyped, it receives points. The more points the content creators get, the higher they climb on a country-specific leaderboard with the top 100 Hyped videos, which appears under the Explore section on YouTube. Higher the rank, greater is the chance of the video being featured on the YouTube homepage. The Top 100 Hyped Videos tab will appear under the Explore section on YouTube. Hype also helps creators analyse their content. Hyped videos may also receive badges indicating that the video is a favourite among viewers. When viewers Hype a creator, bonus points are automatically provided for rising creators based on their number of followers. The fewer the subscribers, the higher the benefit, enabling smaller creators to obtain more traction on their content. 'We want to make sure everyone has a fair opportunity at the limelight. In just the first four weeks of our beta tests for Hype in Turkey, Taiwan, and Brazil, users hyped over 5 million times over more than 50,000 unique channels,' Google said. The Hype feature was launched globally in 2024, with a handful of YouTube creator-focused features such as automatic dubbing, which lets creators translate audio tracks into different languages before adding them to their videos. Jewels and Gifts are a new set of digital items that fans can give to creators during their live streams. Content creators on the platform can also ask an AI bot for suggestions on video ideas, titles, thumbnails, and outlines via the Inspiration Tab in YouTube Studio.

YouTube Adds Video Title Testing Option in YouTube Studio

This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. YouTube's announced the next stage of its thumbnail testing rollout, with more users now able to access the feature within the 'Test and Compare' element in YouTube Studio, adding another means to optimize your YouTube content performance. And it's also now adding video title testing into the mix. As explained by YouTube: 'We're starting to experiment with a feature that gives creators the ability to test titles as well as thumbnails using our 'Test & compare' feature in Studio. We're rolling this out to a small percentage of creators at first, but we'll keep you posted on our plans to expand it to more creators.' So YouTube will now let you try out titles as well, as a means to determine the most engaging, attention-grabbing elements for your video uploads. That could be a valuable addition, providing more means to glean feedback on optimal content approaches before full publishing. YouTube originally announced that it was developing its thumbnail A/B testing feature in June 2023, and then launched an initial test with selected creators last year. As you can see in this example, YouTube's thumbnail comparison testing enables channel managers to upload up to three thumbnail images, which are then sample tested with YouTube users. As explained by YouTube: 'YouTube will show your chosen thumbnails evenly across your videos viewers and will select a winning thumbnail based on which one generates the most watch time share.' YouTube says that it's optimizing for watch time on this element because it believes that this metric is the best way to guide your content strategy decisions, and 'support your chances of success on the platform.' In other words, YouTube wants you to focus on this element to grow your channel, which means that it's the key thing that drives exposure and reach. The same process will seemingly now be applied to video titles as well, giving you another feedback option to better align your content with your audience. It could be a valuable addition, especially when you consider that top YouTubers like MrBeast spend significant amounts of time and money on thumbnail and title development, in order to maximize their video performance. Indeed, Mr Beast claims to have a team of six people that develop and test his video thumbnails, trying out up to 20 variations for each of his clips. Titles testing adds another aspect to this, ensuring more data-backed approaches to maximize your YouTube clips. YouTube's ‘Trending' section is about to disappear

Ammon News - YouTube is preparing to sunset the Trending section that shows users which videos are currently going viral on the platform. The Trending page and Trending Now list will be removed within the 'next couple of weeks,' according to YouTube, with the platform shifting its attention toward expanding YouTube Charts, which rank top-performing content. YouTube is directing users to lean on personalized recommendations and YouTube Charts to explore new videos ahead of the Trending page's removal. YouTube Charts allow users to see the most popular content for specific categories, which currently includes music videos, podcasts, and movie trailers. YouTube says that it will add more content category charts 'over time' and that trending gaming videos can still be found under the Gaming Explore page in the meantime. 'Back when we first launched the Trending page in 2015, the answer to 'what's trending' was a lot simpler to capture with a singular list of viral videos that everyone was talking about,' the company said in a blog post. 'But today, trends consist of many videos created by many fandoms, and there are more micro-trends enjoyed by diverse communities than ever before.' People now learn about viral video trends from a variety of different sources, including Shorts, search suggestions, and other platforms like TikTok, which YouTube says has significantly reduced Trending page traffic, 'especially over the last five years.' Creators have also criticized YouTube for demanding far higher viewership numbers to appear in the Trending section compared to branded accounts that post movie trailers, TV clips, and other traditional media, suggesting the experience doesn't entirely reflect what videos are actually popular on the platform. Creators who use the Trending page to research video ideas are being directed to instead use the Inspiration Tab in YouTube Studio, which provides AI-generated content suggestions. YouTube says it's also working on new ways to help boost discovery for up-and-coming creators on the platform, such as the Hype promotional system that it released last year, which lets viewers amplify videos to a platform-wide leaderboard. YouTube To Retire Trending Page Section A Decade After Its Debut, Will Remain Available Until THIS Date

YouTube Trending Page Retirement: YouTube has announced that it will discontinue its long-standing Trending Page nearly 10 years after its initial launch in 2015 to highlight viral hits, breaking news and top music releases. The Google-owned platform announced the decision in a blog post, citing diminished user interest in the feature. The "Trending Now" section and the Trending Page will both be available until July 21 before being permanently deleted. YouTube Trending Page Feature The feature, which was first created to show off worldwide viral content in real-time, has seen a decline in usage in recent years. 'YouTube has evolved significantly over the past 10 years, and so has the way users discover and consume content,' the company stated in its announcement. YouTube is moving its emphasis to category-specific charts under the YouTube Charts section, replacing the general Trending section. With more categories anticipated to be added soon, users can now peruse carefully curated lists like Trending Music Videos, Weekly Top Podcasts, and Trending Movie Trailers. For more individualised discovery, the company also encouraged users to peruse content through the channels of individual creators, the subscriptions feed, and the Explore Page. The Google-owned video sharing platform highlighted the increasing significance of its algorithmic suggestions, which present well-liked videos based on each user's viewing preferences and past viewing activity. YouTube Studio's Inspiration Tab For Creators It recommends using YouTube Studio's Inspiration tab for creators who want to keep up with the latest trends. This tab provides insights and content recommendations based on audience preferences and performance data. In line with broader shifts in user behaviour and the platform's developing recommendation systems, the removal signifies a strategic shift by YouTube to concentrate on more individualised and category-based content discovery. The original purpose of YouTube Trends was to showcase videos that quickly attracted viewers' attention. The trending tab showcased the most popular music releases, viral sensations, and news highlights. (With IANS Inputs)
