"Cleaner Bengaluru, smarter Bengaluru", Karnataka Dy CM DK Shivakumar announces launch of CityCat cleaning vehicle
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 22 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday announced the launch of a new, advanced CityCat cleaning vehicle for Bengaluru, as part of efforts to make the city cleaner and greener.
He said the initiative reflects the government's commitment to improving the city's cleanliness and infrastructure.
In a post on X, DK Shivakumar wrote, 'Cleaner Bengaluru, Smarter Bengaluru. The all-new, state-of-the-art #CityCat vehicle is ready to roll out on Bengaluru's streets.'

Earlier on Saturday, explaining the Karnataka government's Yettinahole project, state Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the government has decided to deliver the Yettinahole water to Kolar by 2027.
He mentioned that the forest department has discussed the project's issues. Land acquisition and financial issues related to the construction of a balanced reservoir in Bairagonda, Lakkenahalli, were also discussed in the meeting with the forest department.
DK Shivakumar informed that the changes in the project will take place based on the suggestions of the ministers and asserted that he would study everything and raise the issue in the upcoming cabinet meeting.
'Our government's resolve is to deliver Yettinahole water to Kolar by 2027. We have already discussed the issues related to this project with the Forest Department, the land acquisition process, land acquisition and financial issues related to the construction of a balanced reservoir in Bairagonda, Lakkenahalli. Therefore, we visited the site of these works and inspected them. The changes in this project have been made based on the suggestions of the ministers. There are also some technical aspects here. I will study everything and raise this issue in the next cabinet meeting. I am not worried even if other projects are delayed, the CM has directed me to complete the Yettinahole project on priority', DK Shivakumar told reporters on Saturday. (ANI)

New York [US], June 30 (ANI): The India Pavilion at the Summer Fancy Food Show 2025 was inaugurated on Sunday at the Jacob K Javits Center in New York, by Ravi Kota, the Chief Secretary to the government of Assam, and Ambassador Binaya S Pradhan, Consul General of India in New York, reads an official press release. The event marked a momentous occasion celebrating 200 years of Assam Tea - a global symbol of strength, flavour, and heritage that has shaped livelihoods, cultures, and economies since its discovery in 1823 along the banks of Brahmaputra River. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Assam Chief Secretary highlighted how the idea for the 200 years celebration of Assam Tea was brewed during a conversation between Ambassador Pradhan and the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, earlier this year. 'As we celebrate 200 years of Assam Tea, we do so not only with pride in our legacy but with a clear vision for the future,' Kota remarked. 'For Assam, this Pavilion at the Summer Fancy Food Show 2025, here at the Jacob K. Javits Center, serves as both a celebratory and strategic platform. And Assam Tea stands as a bridge between tradition and innovation. I say innovation because India is buzzing with youngsters brimming with energy and ideas, and so is Assam. Four start-ups that we wanted to bring to this event - Aromica Tea, Woolah Tea, Dorei Tea, and Earth Tea are only a flavour of tea startups brewing innovation in Assam. They are innovating new blends of exotic tea, and I am confident that these innovations will gain global visibility from this event,' he added. Kota also underscored the vital role of Assam's small tea growers, who contribute 40 per cent of the state's production, and highlighted the transformative impact of bought-leaf factories in the ecosystem. Reflecting on the journey of Assam Tea, the Chief Secretary traced its origins to the discovery of wild tea bushes by early explorers. Today, Assam is globally renowned for its bold, malty brews and deep amber liquor. As a mark of authenticity, Assam Tea anchors breakfast blends, afternoon cups, and premium specialty collections. Kota added that a key enabler of this thriving industry is the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre, the largest in India by volume. Trading over 250 million kilograms annually, it provides buyers worldwide with access to a diverse array of Assam teas through a digital, transparent, and highly regulated platform. In 2024-25, more than 100 million kilograms of Assam tea were shipped to over 90 countries, generating nearly $285 million in exports. Major destinations include the United Kingdom, Russia, the UAE, Germany, Iraq, and China, underscoring Assam's position as a trusted supplier to both traditional and emerging tea markets. The Government of Assam is committed to deepening India-US relations through strategic initiatives involving AI, blockchain, and specialised summits. It also plans to host the 'Heritage to Wellness' Tea Showcase across the US and sign MoUs with American universities, retailers, and innovation platforms to enhance traceability and promote sustainable partnerships. Unfortunate that rape cases are being politicised, this cannot be tolerated: Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan
New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan condemned the alleged gang rape of a law student in Kolkata and said that such cases were being politicised and this cannot be tolerated. This comes amid mounting protests by several political parties over the incident. Ranjeet Ranjan said, 'In any state, whether it is our government or the BJP government, if there is harassment against women, then it is absolutely condemnable and it should not be tolerated in any situation. We went to Odisha and in a week there were cases of gang rapes in three different places. Whether it is Odisha or West Bengal, there should be no attempt to protect anyone, and it is unfortunate that everywhere it is politicised and as a woman, this cannot be tolerated.' Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh on Sunday hit back at Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's remarks against the TMC government, asserting that the state remains one of the 'safest places for women' in the country. Responding to Pradhan's demand to 'free' West Bengal from TMC rule, Ghosh accused the Union Minister of ignoring atrocities against women in BJP-ruled states. 'Tell Dharmendra Pradhan to talk about crimes against women in places like Unnao, Hathras, Prayagraj, and Delhi first... Police take action in West Bengal. Social crimes have lessened in the state. This is the safest state for women,' the TMC leader said. The remarks came hours after Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan alleged that West Bengal under TMC rule was facing a governance crisis similar to the Emergency imposed in 1975. Drawing a parallel, Pradhan said the TMC was carrying forward the legacy of the Congress-era Emergency by eroding constitutional values. '50 years ago, an Emergency was declared to dismantle, tear apart, and disregard the country's Constitution... It is disheartening that the party carrying forward that Congress culture is the Trinamool Congress. It has not yet overcome that mindset,' Pradhan said during a press conference. Meanwhile, Kalyan Banerjee in the latest row said, 'Yes, incidents do happen. Not all men are like this, but some have a perverted mindset. These perverted men then come out on the streets, hold protests and demand the death penalty.' On June 25, a female student was allegedly gang-raped inside the South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata's Kasba area. The police have arrested four persons, including the main accused Manojit Mishra, and formed a five-member Special team to investigate the incident. (ANI)
