Video showing thousands singing 'Star-Spangled Banner' in Louisville hotel goes viral
The video was captured during the Kentucky Music Educators Conference Feb. 5, but it's just now gaining traction. Several news outlets have picked up the video, and it has amassed more than 500,000 likes on TikTok.
Singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" in the atrium is an annual tradition for students staying at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Louisville during the multi-day Kentucky Music Educators Conference, Bullitt East High School Choir Director Carrie Ann Gary told The Courier Journal.
In 2022, CBS News reported the tradition started in 1987 after a group of students hanging out in the atrium extemporaneously started singing.
"It was just student-inspired," Gary said. "There's not a person that starts it. There's not a conductor. It's just students joining together."
Gary has gone to the conference with students each year since 2008. She always looks forward to seeing her students experience it for the first time, which was the case for five of her six students who attended this year.
"It really is such a cool thing to be a part of. So, that's kind of why I just like to kind of get their expression," Gary said.
Why it went viral this year? She's not sure.
One reason, she suspects, is that the video was taken from the hotel's 17th floor, giving a unique vantage as she pans from the ground floor all the way up to her floor.
Another explanation could be that people are hungry for "something positive," Gary said.
Whatever the reason might be, she's glad it's resonating with people.
"It's just such a unifying thing that everybody knows, a unifying song, a unifying symbol that everybody's familiar with," she said.

"Other benefits include keeping the amount of hair they leave around the house under control, if they're a dog breed that sheds, and making sure their coat looks brilliant," Lagercrantz added. However, you can significantly cut this expense by opting to pamper and groom your canine at home. While there is no denying that Teddy's coat is squeaky clean, TikTok users can't stop laughing at his haircut—as it looks just like a bob. "This Dora the Explorer cut is sending me [laughing faces]," read one comment with over 27,000 views. "The nod like 'well, get me the hell out of here,'" posted another, and a third user said: "Auditioning for the Beatles."

TikToker Launches Fake ‘Alligator Alcatraz' Tour Website That Redirects to Photos of Trump With Epstein
The Trump administration recently launched 'Alligator Alcatraz,' a migrant detention center based in Florida whose name references the region's native population of scaly reptilians. Americans have been left with little to do about the situation other than react with horror and amazement or, in the case of one TikToker, a desire to spin the dystopian situation into comedy gold. Lisandra Vazquez, a TikTok comedian with nearly a million followers, recently decided to troll the president's supporters by creating a website that appears to be a company offering guided tours of the draconian prison but, in reality, offers information about how to donate to progressive organizations like Planned Parenthood, Climate Power, and World Central Kitchen, a non-profit that provides food relief. Vazquez launched a website, dubbed Terri's Tourz, that, upon first glance, appears to be a tour guide company marketed to the MAGA crowd. 'Making America Great, One Tour at a Time,' the site states. The site features what is obviously an AI-generated image of a folksy-looking white woman (who, the website visitor might safely assume, is Terri). However, when site visitors click on hyperlinks embedded in the site's homepage (they offer options like 'VIP Tour' and 'Basic Tours'), they are simply directed to pictures of Donald Trump hanging out with Jeffrey Epstein. Another page on the site offers visitors links to several liberal non-profits, with the note: 'If you can't donate money to these organizations, maybe you can volunteer time? If not time, then maybe sharing their pages? Often, just resharing posts from an organization can have a butterfly effect.' A disclosure on the website clearly notes: ' is a satirical website created for entertainment purposes only. All characters, events, and scenarios—though occasionally inspired by real-life individuals or public commentary—are entirely fictional and exaggerated for comedic effect.' A different disclaimer encourages the visitor to 'proceed with laughter.' The real Alligator Alcatraz has been accused of holding detainees in inhumane conditions, without access to adequate food and water, CBS has reported. The facility was built by federal authorities over the course of only several days at a municipal airport in the Everglades, some 50 miles west of Miami. According to reports, the prison is also said to be plagued by giant bugs and non-functioning toilets. There is no evidence that alligators are actually being used as security guards, though Florida governor Ron DeSantis recently said, of the building: 'Clearly from a security perspective, if someone escapes, there's a lot of alligators you're going to have to contend (with)…No one is going anywhere once you do that. It's as safe and secure as you can be.'

The dogs were having some downtime when Fitzpatrick checked in, and while Leo, a mini poodle, chihuahua, Pomeranian, and cocker spaniel mix, was snoozing on his basic cot, his neighbor had a far more luxury setup. Leo didn't have any bedding or a blanket, but the French bulldog in the space next to him had a personalized blanket, plush toys, and extra bedding. "I thought it was so funny to see the stark comparison between him and his neighbor. But I wasn't worried about him because he was fast asleep," Fitzpatrick said. She continued: "I didn't know that other dogs went with so many personal items. When I boarded him previously, I sent him with a sweatshirt that smelled like me, but this time I simply forgot to bring it. I never thought to bring a whole setup." After seeing the difference between Leo and the dog beside him, Fitzpatrick couldn't resist sharing images from the live feed on TikTok (@leonardothedoggo9). The caption alongside the post asks, "Am I a bad dog mom?" Internet users can't cope with the contrasting setups of the two dogs, leading to more than 823,800 views and 55,400 likes on TikTok at the time of writing. Fitzpatrick works in fashion media and often posts on her personal TikTok account (@ too. So, she knows a thing or two about what will generate traction online. "I knew it would get people talking, but I absolutely did not anticipate over 6,000 comments. Luckily, I do not actually think I'm a bad dog mom, so I am not offended by any of the comments. I found most of the comments funny, but some of them do seem to be mean-spirited," Fitzpatrick said. When she collected Leo from boarding, he was as excited as ever to see his beloved human. But next time she has to send him overnight, Fitzpatrick told Newsweek that she will "definitely remember" to send him with more of his personal items. The viral TikTok post has generated over 3,500 comments in a matter of days, as many pet owners were quick to share their thoughts. One comment reads: "girl, you didn't send him with ANYTHING?" Another TikTok user wrote: "This like sending your kid to school with no snacks." Another person joked: "Omg the content smile on the Frenchie's face isn't doing you any favors either!"
