Now Is A Great Time To Get The Deadlands Reloaded Humble Bundle
Role playing games use mythology as fuel. Deadlands, from Pinnacle Entertainment Group, uses the tall tales of the American West as a place for stories about heroes, villains, monsters and more. It's told these stories in many ways, from tabletop role playing games to comic books, card games, novels and more.
Currently, Humble Bundle is featuring a collection of the last edition of the game that benefits the American Cancer Society. The bundle is slated to run through June 14th, 2025. I've selected some of my favorite titles out of the 85 available to highlight for this article.
Deadlands is an alternate history horror game set in an America where something supernatural awoke during the Battle of Gettysburg. This caused big changes to the timeline like a massive earthquake that turned California into a Great Maze of seawater filled canyons. It also caused smaller changes like undead gunslingers and spellcasting cardsharps wandering the small towns of the Wild West.
The most recent editions of Deadlands use Savage Worlds as the base system. Savage Worlds is something of a younger sibling to Deadlands that uses some trappings to give the game a more Western flavor. For example, initiative runs based on crd draws from a deck of playing cards.
This bundle includes the main rule books from the last edition of the game. The Player's Guide details how to build a character, whether its just a common cowpoke or one of the more unusual options like a huckster or blessed. The Marshall's Handbook digs into the setting and reveals some of the secrets of why this West is the way that it is.

Although Deadlands: The Weird West is the most recent edition, the vast majority of these titles are compatible. The main difference, setting wise, is the fact that in this version the North and South continue the Civil War for almost two decades until magic and time travel shenanigans changed that. Other smaller changes can be found on the Pinnacle website.
The big villains of the setting are the Reckoners. They each take on the role of one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War, Famine, Death and Pestilence. Each Reckoner gets an entire campaign devoted to detailing their strengths, their influences and how the players can take them down.
Each of these books is structured in a style called Plot Points. There's the main storyline to follow, but also several smaller adventures that can be sedded in based on character stories and where the players end up. The structure makes the game feel like a classic TV show where there's an overall arc but also several standalone adventures to play out.
The bundle also includes several smaller adventures for role playing groups who don't want to commit to an epic campaign story right out of the gate. These range from shorter campaigns like Blood Drive to one sheets that have everything the Game Master needs to run on two sides of the same paper. There are dozens of stories here that capture the spooky but deadly tone that attracted me to the game.
Blood Drive is a great example of this tone. It uses a classic Western story of driving cattle to market to give players a tour of the Weird West. Once the story is over, the players know that all those whispered campfire tales and superstitious saloon stories have a kernel of truth to them.
This bundle includes a lot of maps, tokens, foldouts and other expansions aimed to help players play the game. While Deadlands has a heavy horror aspect to it, there's still plenty of room for exciting shootouts and cinematic duels. The expansions also include player options and details on different sections of the west.
The 1880 Smith & Robards Catalog continues one of my favorite traditions from the original Deadlands. It's chock full of steampunk gadgets built by so-called mad scientists that can give players an edge against the beasts that stalk the prairie. The entries in this book can be purchased by players or serve as inspiration should one of the players decided to play a character devoted to the New Science.
Deadlands remains my favorite kitchen sink role playing game. It combines several genres together to tell unique stories featuring a variety of heroes including simple schoolmarms, tough cowboys, kung fu masters and mad scientists. This bundle is a great way to fall in love with Westerns, Weird or otherwise.

It's both a challenge of resource management and diplomacy, as you try and maintain morale and order, while pushing the populace to endure ever-greater hardship. It's another game that looks stunning, with the smoke and steam belching out of your futuristic-looking city, growing ever-more impressive as it expands. For my money, Frostpunk is a better game than its successor, which is still well worth playing once you've had time to defrost after this. Although it's a bit more pricey than the $4.49 you'll pay for this original. Mini Metro (PC, Mac, Steam Deck) If you've ever stood on a crammed metro platform wondering why the train's taking so long to arrive, you might have more sympathy after playing Mini Metro. This cracking little game puts you in charge of designing a metro system, starting off with a single line running from A to B, that soon expands into a dropped plate of spaghetti with a terrifying number of intersections and dependencies. You can design subways for several real-world cities (New York, London and Paris included), and if the stress of making the trains run on time proves overwhelming, there's a sandbox mode where you can play without pressure. At $4.99 it's probably cheaper than a ticket on the real metro, too. Lumines Remastered (PC, Steam Deck) Lumines is Tetris meets techno Lumines is a forgotten classic, first appearing on the PSP handheld way back in 2002. There's no doubt it's borrowed heavily from Tetris, but instead of slotting differently shaped blocks into a grid, you're charged with trying to form 2x2 squares of the same color to clear space. All this is done with a techno dance beat smashing away in the background, the tune changing with each different skin as you power through the levels. It looks astonishing on the Steam Deck OLED, although you might want to plug in headphones rather than rely on the tinny sound from its speakers. A must-have for Steam Deck owners at $4.49. Firewatch (PC, Mac, Steam Deck) Firewatch is a game that's hard to nail down. It's quite chilled, but yet tense. It's graphically stunning, yet simple. And it's hard to put down. You're Henry, a troubled soul who's taking a job as a fire lookout in the forest. Your only means of communication is a handheld radio with your supervisor. Things obviously don't run smoothly in your lookout tower, and before long a simple summer job turns into something of a psychological thriller. There's no combat or puzzles, so to speak. Just a well-written storyline to follow and unpick – a story that's well worth the current $3.99 asking price. The Steam Summer Sale ends on July 7, so don't hang around if one of these games has caught your eye.

‘Mecha Break' Is Finally Here, Get Ready For Some Epic Mecha Action
'Mecha Break' is finally out and available to play on PC and Xbox Series X|S. It's been a long while, but Mecha Break is finally here, and it delivers. With stunning visuals and fast-paced mecha combat, it's a blast to play. With multiple open betas and a long, troubled development history, it's taken a good while for the game to find its feet, but Mecha Break is now finally available to play on general release. It's also playable on Xbox Series X|S, and I've been giving it a proper go. It holds up surprisingly well on console with a pad, and it will be interesting to see how it does long-term. This is because, with the styling of the mecha designs and general high-speed aerial gameplay, I think that Mecha Break will find its audience mostly in Asia. So the choice of Xbox Series X|S to start with seems a bit strange, as the Xbox brand has never been popular in places like Japan, but a PlayStation 5 version is apparently still planned. You can also pick up the game over on PC via Steam, which is where I assume the bulk of the initial players will be. In any case, Mecha Break is a big and unashamed mecha game. Not a Gundam game trying to be an Overwatch clone, or a shooter with dudes cosplaying as mecha.
