Crash on Sarawak's Pan Borneo Highway kills one, injures two
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) identified the deceased as Mohammad Norazfarizdwan Iqbal Inai, who was driving a Toyota Vios.
A team of six firefighters from the Tatau fire station was dispatched to the location following a distress call received at 7.06pm.
In a statement, Tatau police chief DSP Jame Reis said preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred when the driver of a Perodua Kembara, who was in the left lane and attempting to switch to the right, was hit by a Toyota Vios travelling straight in the right lane.
'As a result of the collision, the Toyota Vios lost control and slammed into a road barrier at the P-Turn junction.
'The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Tatau Fire and Rescue Department,' he said.
Medical personnel from the Tatau clinic later confirmed that Mohammad Norazfarizdwan died at the scene.
The driver of the Kembara and a passenger sustained injuries and were first treated at the Tatau clinic before being referred to Nyabau Hospital in Bintulu for further medical attention.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Jame reminded motorists to always exercise caution while driving and to comply with all traffic regulations to avoid such incidents.

Fatal Yamaha NVX-Honda Jazz collision under investigation by Kota Tinggi police
KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — A 23-year-old motorcyclist died in a fatal collision with a Honda Jazz at KM 46 of the Sungai Rengit-Kota Tinggi road early this morning. The accident occurred at approximately 5.15 AM when the Yamaha NVX motorcycle collided with the car driven by another 23-year-old local man, said Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman. He said the motorcyclist sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The car driver escaped injury and has been detained by police to assist with investigations. The victim's body has been sent to the Forensic Unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a minimum sentence of five years and maximum of 10 years imprisonment, along with fines ranging from RM20,000 to RM50,000.

Appeals court acquits man, 66, of murdering disabled stepsister-in-law
PUTRAJAYA, July 7 — A senior citizen was acquitted and discharged by the Court of Appeal today, setting aside his conviction and death sentence for the murder of his disabled stepsister-in-law six years ago. The three-member panel, comprising Justices Datuk Hashim Hamzah, Datuk Mohamed Zaini Mazlan and Datuk Noorin Badaruddin, unanimously allowed Muhammad Johari Ng Abdullah's appeal against the High Court's decision delivered in January last year. Delivering the court's decision, Justice Hashim held that the circumstantial evidence adduced at trial was insufficient to sustain a conviction. 'Therefore, we find the conviction to be unsafe. As such, the conviction and sentence are set aside, and the appellant's (Muhammad Johari's) appeal is allowed,' he said. Following the decision, Muhammad Johari, 66, expressed his gratitude to the panel of judges. Muhammad Johari, a former security guard, was initially sentenced to death by the High Court for the murder of 26-year-old Nor Izzati Ghazali, who had dwarfism. The offence was alleged to have taken place at an apartment in Villa Apartment, Jalan Temenggong 19, Off Jalan Sungai Jati, Klang, Selangor, at 2 pm on Feb 19, 2019. During today's proceedings, Muhammad Johari's counsel, Hafizuddin Salehuddin, argued that the trial judge had erred in failing to consider the reasonable possibility of another individual, namely, the deceased's stepsister, being involved in the commission of the offence. 'There is no irresistible conclusion that the appellant was the one who caused the death of the deceased. We respectfully request the court to acquit and discharge him,' said Hafizuddin, who was assisted by Hilmi Zawawi. Deputy public prosecutor Faizal @ Amrin Noor Hadi, however, asserted that the trial judge had not erred in his findings and urged the Court of Appeal to uphold the conviction and sentence. According to the case facts, a neighbour stated in a police report that the deceased had previously complained to him and his wife about being physically assaulted and abused by the appellant.
