When will Barbarians name team to face Springboks?

Earlier this week, the Barbarians reported for duty in South Africa to begin preparing for this Saturday's clash against the Springboks.
As many as 18 players with Test experience from across the world touched down in Cape Town, with the 23-man squad – which includes former Junior Springbok lock Ruben van Heerden of the Stormers – set to take on the Springboks for the first time on South African soil.
The first five players confirmed for the fixture were the Irish centurion trio of Cian Healy (prop), Peter O'Mahony (flanker) and Conor Murray (scrumhalf), while former All Black captain Sam Cane and his Kiwi teammate Shannon Frizell (both loose forwards) were also locked in.
Murray is no longer involved, but they have included five more capped All Blacks in Hoskins Sotutu (loose forward), Tawera Kerr-Barlow (scrumhalf), Peter Umaga-Jensen (utility back), Leicester Fainga'anuku (wing) and Mark Tele'a (wing).
Furthermore, Joe Marchant (England), Melvyn Jaminet (France), Santiago Arata Perrone (Uruguay), David Ribbans (England), Camille Chat (France), Will Collier (England), Hassane Kolingar (France), and Paul Alo-Emile (Samoa) are all capped at Test level.
The composition of the final matchday 23 will be named at 12:00 on Thursday.
Undoubtedly, Van Heerden is one player who the Springboks will be keeping an eye on, with the towering lock having recorded a URC league-leading 98% tackle success rate from 171 attempts during the regular season.
'Look, [Van Heerden] tackles like a machine, that we know, so he'll be all over us. It will be interesting,' Rassie Erasmus told reporters on Tuesday.
'He's been at an alignment camp last year with us, so we probably have to do our lineout calls in a bit of a huddle before we get there. We obviously trust him not to tell them our calls. The other lock [David Ribbans] is also South African…
'That team, if they get allowed to play the way they want – their thing is to play without pressure and entertain. Now, that can really backfire against you; I coached there.
'But what an opportunity for Ruben, because he's been close to the squad but he's never really got a look-in. So, he would love to play his socks off and show us, which is fantastic.'

Hoërskool Marais Viljoen's rugby coach fresh from a match against Kenya

Hoërskool Marais Viljoen rugby coach, Shane Kirkwood, who is also the director of the Alberton Rugby Club, has just returned from co-captaining the Super Barbarians in their match against Kenya's 15s rugby team, the Simbas. The match formed part of the Simbas' tour of South Africa and was played on Tuesday, June 24, in Nylstroom, Limpopo. 'Shane Kirkwood, a proud Marais Viljoen alumnus and current rugby coach at our school, has been selected as co-captain of the prestigious Super Barbarians rugby team,' said Hoërskool Marais Viljoen in a statement. Kirkwood joined forces with his long-time friend and former Pumas teammate, Etienne 'Mot' Taljaard, for the game. The Simbas, however, secured their second win of the South African tour, narrowly defeating the Super Barbarians 27–24 despite the Barbarians' determined performance. 'A special memory. Super Barbarians vs Kenya, 27–24 loss. Great effort,' said John Kirkwood after the match. At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!

Springboks batter BaaBaas in Cape Town

No 8 Jean-Luc du Preez, another long-time absentee from the Boks ranks, was full of honest endeavour. Perhaps predictably given the conditions, flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu delivered a mixed bag. Scrumhalf Morne van den Berg's intelligent use of the boot caged the Barbarians inside their own territory, while replacement Cobus Reinach injected energy and purpose after the break. Kurt-Lee Arendse was typically hawkish in eyeing opportunity, Kolbe played as if fit with all-weather tyres, while Fassi was full of the lustre that has characterised his season. Kolbe was electrifying in the second half. The visitors' scrum infractions started to mount in the first half as trimmed-down tighthead prop Asenathi Ntlabakanye made his presence felt in Bok colours. The Boks, however, did not maintain their grip in that facet and the tourists grew stronger as the first half wore on. Melvyn Jaminet opened the visitors' score in the 65th minute — but by then the tourists' baabaalas was well in the making. Scorers Springboks (19) 54 - Tries: Malcolm Marx, Cheslin Kolbe, Vincent Tshituka (2), Kurt-Lee Arendse, Jan-Hendrik Wessels, Lood de Jager, Damian de Allende. Conversions: Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu (2), Manie Libbok (5). Barbarians (0) 7 - Try: Melvyn Jaminet. Conversion: Jaminet.
