Norwegian Ambassador commends Jordan's role in delivering aid to Gaza
On the occasion of Norway's National Day, Juul expressed deep concern over the blockade imposed by Israel on Gaza. She stressed the importance of Israel's compliance with international humanitarian law and allowing the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Strip. She also noted that Norway has recently recognized the State of Palestine.
The ambassador highlighted the strength of the relationship and partnership between the two countries across various fields, supported by the distinguished ties between the royal families. She noted that mutual visits have contributed to the development of these relations.
Juul pointed to the existence of excellent cooperation, consultation, and coordination between the two countries at different levels on regional issues and matters of mutual interest. She added that despite the modest volume of trade exchange, there is a shared interest in enhancing and expanding economic cooperation.
She emphasized the promising opportunities for collaboration in the renewable energy sector, noting Norway's strong and efficient companies in this field and Jordan's growing interest in developing solar and wind energy. She added that other sectors of mutual interest could include tourism and organic agriculture.
According to Juul, Norway's exports to Jordan mainly consist of oil, gas, seafood, and fish, while Jordan's exports to Norway primarily include textiles and vegetables.
She stated that Norway is proud to partner in the Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Growth, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the World Bank, to provide technical support aimed at stimulating growth in Jordan's economy.
Norway, she added, remains committed to supporting Jordan's economic reform program for no less than the next five years. This year, the country pledged an additional USD 2 million to this effort.
Juul stressed that human rights and women's empowerment are among Norway's top priorities, both domestically and internationally. She said Norway supports the International Labour Organization's efforts in Jordan to promote gender equality, safety, and inclusion in the workplace, in addition to supporting various women's organizations and local NGOs.
She indicated that Norway's total contribution to development cooperation in Jordan is expected to reach nearly USD 14 million in 2024. Of this, USD 10 million is managed by the Norwegian embassy in Amman, while the remaining USD 4 million is administered from Oslo as humanitarian aid.
The ambassador praised Jordan's generosity in hosting refugees and reaffirmed Norway's commitment to providing substantial support to Syrian and Palestinian refugees.
She also commended Jordan's efforts to integrate Syrian refugee children into the national education system. She noted that Norway supports double-shift schools in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and contributed approximately USD 6.5 million to support the ministry in this area last year. Petra

Natalie Portman backs "Israeli" anti-war protests, shares Gaza aid link
Hollywood actress Natalie Portman has drawn renewed attention to her stance on "Israel" and Palestine after sharing a series of Instagram Stories amplifying ongoing "Israeli" protests against the government. Among the posts was a call to donate to humanitarian efforts in Gaza, a rare move from a high-profile "Israeli"-American celebrity amid the ongoing war. Portman, who was born in Jerusalem and holds dual citizenship, shared content featuring demonstrators in Tel Aviv demanding an end to the war and the return of "Israeli" captives held in Gaza. One of the posts specifically pointed followers to a campaign collecting donations for Palestinian civilians affected by the genocide, a gesture likely to spark both praise and criticism across the political spectrum. The Oscar-winning actress has long held a nuanced position on the "Israeli"-Palestinian issue. In 2018, she famously declined to attend the Genesis Prize ceremony in "Israel", citing her distress over recent events and her refusal to appear as endorsing then-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. 'Like many Israelis and Jews around the world, I can be critical of the leadership in Israel without wanting to boycott the entire nation,' she wrote at the time. Portman has previously criticized the "Israeli" nation-state law as "racist" and expressed concern about policies that, in her view, undermine equality and democracy. Yet, she has also remained firmly opposed to the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement and has maintained her cultural ties to "Israel", including directing a Hebrew-language film in 2015.

Jordan condemns attacks on its diplomatic missions over Gaza aid efforts
Jordan on Saturday strongly condemned a series of incitement campaigns and attacks targeting its diplomatic missions in several countries, linked to its humanitarian role in supporting Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Ambassador Sufian Qudah, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, said the "deliberate and systematic" campaigns would not undermine Jordan's long-standing, principled support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, nor its continued efforts to end the war on Gaza and prevent further humanitarian catastrophe. Qudah added that the ministry has formally contacted the foreign ministries of the countries where the attacks took place, as well as ambassadors accredited to the Kingdom, demanding full protection for Jordanian missions and their staff, in line with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The ministry is also following up with relevant authorities to ensure those responsible are held accountable and that such violations are not repeated.

'Israeli' captive held in Gaza pleads for help, says he's been abandoned
An 'Israeli' captive held by Hamas's Al-Qassam Brigades, Evyatar David, has issued a distress call describing severe health and living conditions inside captivity, warning that his life is in danger. In a video message released Saturday, David said, "I haven't eaten for days, and I don't know what I will eat… I'm getting thinner by the day and in very bad shape." Addressing 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he added: "I feel like I've been abandoned." David stated that his physical condition is deteriorating rapidly, saying, "With each passing day, my body grows weaker… what I'm doing now is digging my own grave with my own hands." His remarks come amid a deadlock in negotiations over a potential prisoner exchange deal between Palestinian resistance factions and the 'Israeli' government. Meanwhile, internal pressure continues to mount on Netanyahu's cabinet as families of captives demand urgent action to bring their loved ones home alive.
