Work on a 5.3-km road stretch connecting Dwarka Expressway to IMT Manesar is set to begin soon, nearly two years after the project got approval. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority ( GMDA ) awarded the Rs 49.4 crore project to an agency last week, and mobilisation of manpower and machinery has already started, an official said on Friday. The project, which aims to provide smoother and safer travel for commuters in the new sectors, has a completion deadline of March 2026. Approved in January 2023, it involves upgrading and strengthening an existing six-lane master road that passes through sectors 84-88, 85-89, 86-90 and 87-91.Key features of the upgrade include construction of a cycle track, surface drain, greenbelt, footpaths, streetlights, and road safety furniture 'This corridor is critical for reducing congestion and the upgrade will be instrumental in improving traffic flow,' said Arun Dhankar, chief engineer at GMDA. 'Development of this key stretch will greatly enhance the connectivity between Dwarka Expressway and IMT Manesar.'The stretch begins at the Central Peripheral Road (CPR) interchange of Dwarka Expressway and extends to Kankrola village , linking directly to IMT Manesar. It also provides access to NH-48, Sohna Highway and the Southern Peripheral Road.According to GMDA, this stretch sees around 28,000 passenger car units daily. With the opening of Dwarka Expressway, traffic on this road has increased significantly. Service roads will be constructed on both sides of the main carriageway to help reduce congestion.'The road will pass through sectors 84-91 and will provide improved access to commuters and residents traversing these sectors,' Dhankar added.Originally built by the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran in 2010–2011, the road has deteriorated over time. Commuters often complain about potholes, rough surfaces, and difficult driving conditions, especially during rains.'It's a much-needed upgrade that we have been demanding for a long time,' said Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Sector 86. 'The road has been in bad shape for years and it's really difficult to drive, especially during rains. The addition of service roads and drainage will make a difference,' he said.He added, 'I only hope GMDA will not take forever to complete the project just like the Rampura-Pataudi redevelopment.'The road also passes several residential societies , commercial spaces, shopping complexes and schools. Gurugram University , located in Kankrola village in Sector 87 along this road, was inaugurated last year, further increasing the importance of the route.

Chennai corporation to revamp two flyover spaces for parking, pedestrian use

The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced redevelopment projects for two major flyover underpasses in the city — at T. Nagar and Alwarpet — at a combined cost of Rs 7.5 crore. The initiative is part of a broader effort to make better use of idle urban spaces and improve public amenities for residents and commuters. Under the Rs 3.75 crore redevelopment plan for the space beneath the North Usman Road–Mahalingapuram Road junction flyover in T. Nagar, provisions will be made for two-wheeler Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations, to be set up in coordination with the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO). In addition to EV infrastructure, the site will feature designated parking for two-wheelers, five commercial kiosks to support local businesses, and essential amenities for public use. The civic body will install eight public toilets — three for men, three for women, and two accessible for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). A Reverse Osmosis (RO) drinking water facility will also be provided to enhance convenience for commuters and pedestrians. An official from the Corporation confirmed that the redevelopment will not affect existing infrastructure, such as the U-turn beneath the flyover, auto-rickshaw stands, or ambulance parking zones. 'We are ensuring that vital transport and emergency service spaces remain intact while enhancing the surrounding area,' the official said. The redesigned space will be landscaped with trees, plant beds, ornamental lighting, and street furniture to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment. Public seating areas and tactile paving will be installed to support accessibility, particularly for the visually impaired. The area will also feature paved flooring and proper stormwater drains to ensure durability and cleanliness. CCTV cameras and signage will be installed to enhance safety and wayfinding. Simultaneously, a similar Rs 3.75 crore redevelopment project will be undertaken beneath the TTK Road–CP Ramaswamy Road flyover in Alwarpet. Although this location will not include EV charging stations, it will offer organised parking for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, commercial stalls, landscaping, seating arrangements, and decorative lighting. CCTV surveillance and upgraded drainage infrastructure will also be implemented. Separate tenders have been floated for both projects, and work is expected to begin after finalisation of the bids.

Himachal Cabinet Approves Rs 92 Lakh Mercedes Benz For Guv Despite State Facing Financial Crisis

Last Updated: The decision comes as the state reels under a looming fiscal deficit projected to exceed Rs 1 lakh crore in 2025–26, according to official reports. The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, on Friday approved the purchase of a new Mercedes-Benz worth Rs 92 lakh for Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla. The decision comes as the state reels under a looming fiscal deficit projected to exceed Rs 1 lakh crore in 2025–26, according to official reports. 'The Mercedes currently being used by the Governor has completed its service life. We have decided to procure a new vehicle for him," said Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan. Shukla is presently using a Mercedes 350 acquired in 2019 during the previous BJP regime. Before that, the Raj Bhavan used a 2013-model Mercedes 250. A Raj Bhavan official said a formal proposal was submitted to the government after a mechanical inspection of the current vehicle. 'So far, we haven't received any official response," the official added. The decision follows a recent public disagreement between the Governor and Chief Minister over drug-related issues in the state. In other key decisions, the Cabinet approved reservations for Other Backwards Classes (OBCs) in upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections. Previously, reservations were limited to SC/ST communities and women. A dedicated commission will soon be formed to collect ward-wise OBC population data to allocate seats accordingly. Himachal has 76 ULBs under the Urban Development Department. The last elections were held in March 2021, and the next are due in 2026. The Cabinet also recommended convening the state Assembly's monsoon session from August 18 to September 2.
