Tyrrell Hatton calculated the magic number — of pints (and he's shining at the 2025 Open)
The perfect number of pints, that is.
After a solid second-round 69 that has him right in the thick of things through 36 holes, the eight-time DP World Tour winner and current member of LIV Golf said he's still got a few drinks on his docket as he enters the weekend near the top of the leaderboard.
"Would be rude not to. I think three is the magic number. If you go past three, you kind of ..." he said. "Yeah, two to three, because you're definitely not close to a hangover and you still feel like you've got — hopefully I've got a late tee time tomorrow so I can have a lay-in, as well."
Hatton, who did avoid most of Friday's nasty weather, went 33 on the front with three birdies and a bogey, and then cruised home with an even-par 35 on the back to finish 5 under for the tournament.
"It felt like a pretty frustrating day. Didn't hit it particularly close on many holes," he said ."I missed the green with a lob wedge into 14, which after a perfect tee shot was frustrating, and obviously ended up making bogey. That was a bit of a shame. But it's been a solid couple of days. I'm happy with a few parts of my game.
"I'd like to be in the fairway more this weekend and hitting it a bit closer. But we'll see how we go."
The fiery Hatton was asked if he's trying to become more mellow in his older age, but he insisted he's probably always going to remain the same, even if he let's things roll of inside a little quicker.
"I've always felt like even though I can be losing my shit, I can get over the next shot and still have a clear mind of what I'm still trying to achieve on that shot. Although from the outside it looks like I'm completely gone, in my own mind I still know where I'm at," he said. "I'm 33. I think that ship has sailed, to be honest.
"It just means I get stick from you guys generally. No, I'm not going to change. It's just how I am, how I play I've always said, as long as it's not affecting my playing partners — sure, there's been times I've probably gone too far and you comment on a putt when they're putting on the same line and then it maybe affects where they're hitting their putt, stuff like that, I think that's part of what you learn as you get more experience, so I do try and avoid that kind of thing.
"But yeah, as long as I'm not affecting the other guys, then I'm not going to change."

Joaquin Nieman Reveals Open Reason For Axing Caddie, Coach
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. It looks like Joaquin Niemann has finally hit rock bottom in terms of his major championship results. At the highest level of professional golf, the Chilean has only one top-10 finish in 26 starts, missing the cut eight times. In fact, in his two most recent major starts (US Open, Open Championship), he missed the cut. This contrasts with the tremendous success Niemann has had at LIV Golf over the past two seasons. Last year, he won two tournaments, and now how he has a chance for his fifth LIV victory of 2025, bringing a commanding six-shot lead into Sunday. Clearly, something isn't working with his performance at the majors, and Niemann is determined to fix it. His decisions were drastic: changing caddies and coaches in one fell swoop. "I'd say it's been a little weird the last two, three weeks," he said from the venue of the LIV Golf UK, according to the transcripts of his post-second round performance. "I was pretty frustrated at the beginning of this week after a bad result, obviously, at The Open as well and all the rest kind of going on. I feel like -- not low, but I wasn't -- like going on the golf course going into this week, I wasn't feeling that confident at all." Joaquin Niemann of Torque GC in action on day two of LIV Golf UK by JCB at JCB Golf & Country Club on July 26, 2025 in Uttoxeter, is usually the case, Niemann expressed his gratitude for the work his former caddie and coach had done alongside him for several years. "I'm really grateful for them, for the two people that are not working with me anymore on the team but it's part of it." Niemann's former caddie, Gary Matthews, had been with him since the 2020 US Open, accompanying him for one of his two PGA Tour victories (the 2022 Genesis Invitational), all six of his LIV Golf victories, and his only top-10 finish in major championships (the 2025 PGA Championship, T8). Niemann replaced Matthews with his good friend Diego Salinas, a professional player on the Chilean Golf Tour. As for his former coach, Eduardo Miquel, he had worked with Niemann since he began his professional career in 2018. Scheffler's Brilliant Play Draws Rave Reviews From Fellow Players.
In the week following his runaway victory at the Open Championship, fellow players from the PGA Tour and around the world of golf have commented on what makes the number one player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, so special. (Photo by Oisin Keniry/R&A/R&A via Getty Images) Rory McIlroy Has High Praise For Scheffler When asked about Scottie Scheffler after the Open Championship at Royal Portrush, the second ranked player in the world, Rory McIlroy did not hold back his admiration for Scheffler. "In a historical context, you could argue that there's only maybe two or three players in the history of the game that have been on a run, the one that Scottie's been on here for the last 24 to 36 months," McIlroy said. '[It is]McIlroy, who over the last few years has been one of golf's great ambassadors went on to speak more about Scheffler stating, "Yeah, he's a very worthy winner. Also, he's a great person, and I think he's a wonderful ambassador for our game as well. I'm really happy for him and Meredith and his family." McIlroy used the term 'admiration' to describe how he has felt about Scottie Scheffler since 2021 when he started to make a name for himself in professional golf. "I think all you can do is admire what he does and how he does it. I think what he does is one thing, but how he does it is another. "He just goes about his business, doesn't do anything overly flamboyant, but he's the best at executing in the game right now. "Yeah, he's been absolutely amazing over these past two to three years. As I said, all you can do is tip your cap and watch in admiration." McIlroy has stated in the past that Scheffler is now the bar that professional golfers are trying to reach, and McIlroy has even tried to pattern aspects of his game after the world number one player. Jordan Spieth On Scheffler's Mentality Fellow Texan Jordan Spieth was asked about what makes Scheffler so unique after the Open Championship and the former champion himself had some interesting comments about the world number one player. He's not bringing it to a non-golf audience necessarily. He doesn't want to go do the stuff that a lot of us go do, corporately, anything like that. He just wants to get away from the game and separate the two because I know that ... he felt it was too much, that he was taking it with him. I think it's more so the difference in personality from any other superstar that you've seen in the modern era and maybe in any sport. I don't think anybody is like him.' Shane Lowry Thought Scheffler May 'Birdie Every Hole.' 2019 Open Champion Shane Lowry had a front row seat for the Scottie Scheffler show, having played with him the first two rounds at Royal Portrush. Lowry, who won the Open Championship at Royal Portrush in 2019, raved about Scheffler's play. "I played with him the first two days," Lowry explained. 'And honestly, I thought he was going to birdie every hole. It was incredible to watch.' Lowry went on to comment about Scheffler's unique swing and how it keeps people from putting him on even a higher pedestal. 'I think if Scottie's feet stayed stable and his swing looked like Adam Scott's, we'd be talking about him in the same words as Tiger Woods.' That's when you know he's really good." Bryson DeChambeau Takes A Shot At Scottie Scheffler After playing a fantastic final three rounds at Royal Portrush after a disastrous first round 78, Bryson DeChambeau had some interesting comments about Scheffler and also took a shot at the world number one about their college days. "Scottie's in a league of his own right now," DeChambeau said. "I played with him a lot in college, and he was not that good, so he's figured out a lot of stuff since then. It's really impressive to see and something we can all learn from for sure." LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - DECEMBER 16: Bryson DeChambeau (R) of LIV Golf and Scottie Scheffler of the PGA ... Cox/Getty Images for The Showdown) Harris English Wonders: How Do We Beat This Guy? Coming off an impressive performance in the Open Championship where he fell four shots short of Scheffler for the championship, Harris English couldn't seem to find any holes in Scheffler's game. "Yeah, it's incredible. I wasn't playing professional golf when Tiger was at his peak, early 2000's, mid 2000's. But it's pretty incredible. Just how good of a frontrunner he is. He's improved his putting. There's no stat that he's bad in. It's like, how do you beat this guy?" English elaborated more about Scheffler and made sure to comment on his relentless work ethic. "But he works so hard, and I see him in the gym all the time, see him practising. He's one of the hardest workers I see I've ever seen, and to have No. 1 in the world working that hard, it just makes it that much harder to catch him. What he's doing right now is incredible." With Scheffler seemingly not slowing down anytime soon, players are going to have to find ways to elevate their games in order to get to Scheffler's level. If they cannot do that, we may be in the midst of one of the greatest runs in golf history.

Niemann on track for fifth LIV Golf success of season
Joaquin Niemann has opened up a six-stroke lead heading into the final round at LIV Golf United Kingdom. The Torque GC captain moved to 14-under par with an eight-under 65 on Saturday at the JCB Golf and Country Club in Rocester, England. The Chilean racked up nine birdies with a lone bogey at the par-4 15th hole. Bubba Watson (68) is in solo second at eight under, while fellow American Caleb Surratt (68), England's Paul Casey (68) and Poland's Adrian Meronk (70) are tied for third at seven under. Niemann, already a four-time winner on the LIV Golf tour this season, taking him to six overall, is looking to add his to his titles at Adelaide, Singapore, Mexico City and Virginia. .@joaconiemann placed this shot to perfection to set up the birdie 😳He leads by 6 👏🇬🇧 Watch on @ITVX 🇺🇸 Watch on @fs1 #LIVGolfUK @torquegc_ — LIV Golf (@livgolf_league) July 26, 2025 "I had a great time. I made a lot of putts," he said. "I was laughing at it sometimes because I'm not used to seeing so many of those going in, and it's kind of cool to see that. "Other than that, I hit some good shots. Everything felt pretty much under control, off the tee, irons, putting. Yeah, just pretty happy the way I've been going through the last two days." Niemann, who was joint-second here last year, had five birdies on the front nine, including three in a row at Nos. 1-3. Niemann's Torque GC are also in front for the team championship at 24 under, three shots ahead of Legion XIII as they seek a first team title since 2023. Watson knows it will take a hot round and perhaps poor weather to keep Niemann off the top of the podium. .@bubbawatson 3-wood from the rough... 🤯🇬🇧 Watch on @DAZN_Sport🇺🇸 Watch on @fox#LIVGolfUK @rangegoatsgc — LIV Golf (@livgolf_league) July 26, 2025 "He's playing so good, you don't expect him to do anything, like come backwards," Watson said. Five players are tied for sixth at six under, including Australia's Marc Leishman (71). His Ripper GC captain Cameron Smith (72) sits at four under, with fellow teammates Matt Jones (72) two under and Lucas Herbert (74) one under.
