Mukesh Ambani-led JioStar business — the joint venture between Reliance Industries and Walt Disney's India media operations — posted a revenue of ₹11,222 crore in the first quarter of FY26, surpassing the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) entire income for FY25.
BCCI, as per its audited annual report, earned ₹9,741.71 crore in the full financial year FY25, with the Indian Premier League (IPL) contributing ₹5,761 crore to its coffers. Other streams of income for BCCI included ₹1,042 crore from ICC distributions, ₹813 crore from media rights, ₹377 crore from the Women's Premier League (WPL), ₹361 crore from men's international matches, and about ₹986 crore as interest income.
In contrast, JioStar generated ₹11,222 crore in just the April–June 2025 quarter, with the IPL 2025 season being the biggest growth driver for its business. The company also posted an EBITDA of ₹1,017 crore, with its digital platform JioHotstar achieving a subscriber base of 287 million during the IPL and reaching over 800 million viewers on TV.
According to Reliance Industries, IPL 2025 delivered record-breaking viewership with 1.19 billion viewers across TV and JioHotstar. The merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar into JioHotstar earlier this year allowed JioStar to consolidate its dominance in both OTT and linear television.
On the linear TV front, Star Plus retained its leadership in the Hindi general entertainment category, while regional channels like Star Pravah, Star Jalsha, and Asianet also held top positions in their respective markets.
The figures highlight how the IPL has evolved into a lucrative property not just for the BCCI but even more so for broadcasters and streaming platforms. With its quarterly revenue already exceeding BCCI's full-year income, JioStar has solidified its position at the center of India's sports and entertainment economy.

IndusInd Bank shares fall over 3% today

By Aditya Bhagchandani Published on July 21, 2025, 09:33 IST Shares of IndusInd Bank Ltd. fell over 3% on Monday, trading at ₹843.00, down ₹27.05 from the previous close of ₹870.05, as investors reacted to a combination of sector-wide and company-specific factors. The Mumbai-based private lender informed stock exchanges that its board of directors will meet on Wednesday, July 23, to consider proposals to issue long-term bonds or debt securities on a private placement basis. These issuances will be subject to shareholders' and regulatory approvals. Additionally, the board will also discuss capital augmentation plans, including raising funds via instruments like ADRs, GDRs, and QIPs. The board is also scheduled to meet on Monday, July 28, to approve its financial results for the April–June quarter. Market sentiment has been cautious on banking stocks after several lenders reported mixed results over the weekend, with rising bad loans and weakening core income weighing on outlooks. IndusInd Bank, meanwhile, remains under the spotlight after its top management resigned earlier this year following accounting discrepancies, which led to the formation of an interim committee to oversee operations. Brokerage firm Nomura recently noted that the lender has entered the new financial year on a cleaner slate, having addressed prior issues. The broader banking sector is also seeing pressure after quarterly results from peers: Axis Bank : Bad loans spiked in Q1 after RBI's push to recognise stressed assets. AU Small Finance Bank : NII rose 6.4% YoY but credit cost guidance increased. Union Bank of India : Core income declined while asset quality stayed stable. Bandhan Bank: Net profit fell 65% YoY. Investors are now watching IndusInd's upcoming board decisions and Q1 results for more clarity on its strategy and financial health going forward. Why are CEAT shares down over 6% today? Know More

By Aditya Bhagchandani Published on July 21, 2025, 09:40 IST Shares of CEAT Ltd. fell more than 6% on Monday, trading at ₹3,575, down from the previous close of ₹3,827.30, after the company reported a 28% decline in net profit for the first quarter of FY26, despite solid revenue growth. The tyre manufacturer posted a net profit of ₹112 crore for the June quarter, compared to ₹154 crore in the same period last year. The sharp drop in profit came as margins declined due to higher marketing spends, even as revenue grew. Revenue for Q1 FY26 rose 10.5% year-on-year to ₹3,529 crore, supported by strong demand in the OEM and replacement segments. EBITDA grew marginally by 1.3% to ₹387 crore, while EBITDA margin slipped to 11% from 12% in Q1 FY25. Domestic demand remained healthy with robust growth in key segments, though international business was flat amid global macroeconomic challenges. Expansion and outlook CEAT also announced a ₹450 crore capex plan to expand its Chennai plant's capacity by about 35%, particularly in the Passenger Car Utility Vehicle (PCUV) segment. The project is expected to be completed by the end of FY27. Managing Director & CEO Arnab Banerjee commented, 'We continue to grow at a strong pace driven by OEM and replacement segments. Looking ahead, we are well-positioned to benefit from premiumisation and electrification trends.' Banerjee has been reappointed for an additional two-year term starting April 2026, subject to shareholder approval. CFO Kumar Subbiah noted that despite the marketing-heavy quarter, cash flow management helped reduce gross debt by ₹100 crore during the period. The stock's sharp decline today reflects investor concerns over falling profitability and margin pressures, even as the company charts its growth plans. Why are BSE shares up over 2.5% today? Explained

By Aditya Bhagchandani Published on July 21, 2025, 09:45 IST Shares of BSE Ltd. surged more than 2.5% on Monday to ₹2,515, rebounding after three sessions of losses, following news that the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has allowed Jane Street Group to resume trading in India after the firm deposited the fine amount into an escrow account. According to a Bloomberg and Business Standard report, SEBI informed Jane Street last week via email that the trading ban imposed earlier this month had been lifted. Jane Street deposited ₹4,844 crore (approximately $564 million) as alleged 'unlawful gains' into an escrow account by the July 14 deadline, complying with the regulator's order. Earlier this month, SEBI had barred the US-based high-frequency trading firm from participating in India's stock markets over allegations of manipulating stock indices through positions in derivatives trading. The ban had triggered heavy selling pressure in capital markets-related stocks, including BSE, which lost about 15% in three sessions amid concerns about a potential drop in trading volumes. With the ban lifted, Jane Street — known for its aggressive index options strategies — has been allowed to resume trading, though SEBI has directed the NSE and BSE to keep a close watch on its future trading activity. At the time of writing, BSE shares were trading at ₹2,515, up ₹66.50 or 2.72% compared to Friday's close of ₹2,448.50.
