AMMAN — CEO of the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) Mazen Wathaifi on Sunday said that the after-tax profits attributable to shareholders of public shareholding companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE), which provided their financial data, rose to JD564.4 million in the first quarter of 2025.
Wathaifi said that the figure marked an increase of 7.6 per cent, compared with JD524.6 million during the same period in 2024, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He added that the pre-tax profits for these companies also increased, reaching JD804.3 million in the January-March period of 2025 compared with JD758.1 million in the corresponding period of 2024, marking a 6.1 per cent rise.
At the sectorial level, the CEO said that the after-tax profits for the industrial sector grew by 10.1 per cent, while the financial sector saw an 8.9 per cent increase.
The services sector recorded a 12.7 per cent decline in profits, he pointed out.
Wathaifi noted that these positive results in the first three months of 2025, in light of the geopolitical and economic challenges facing the region and the world, highlight the 'resilience, strength and capacity' of the national economy to overcome such risks 'efficiently'.
He attributed these results to the 'effectiveness' of the implemented economic policies, the advancement of projects under the Economic Modernisation Vision, ongoing structural and legislative reforms, improved business environment and investment climate.
Wathaifi said that the national economy has achieved several positive indicators, including a 2.5 per cent growth rate in 2024, a 5.8 per cent surge in total exports exceeding expectations, and foreign currency reserves surpassing $22 billion.
The CEO also said that 94 per cent of the 160 companies listed on the ASE have submitted their reviewed interim financial statements for the period ending March 31, within the deadline, through the electronic disclosure system XBRL.
He stressed that this percentage reflects the 'strong' commitment of listed companies to the applicable laws and regulations, and the principles and standards of disclosure and transparency.
Wathaifi added that according to ASE's listing requirements, all listed companies are obligated to submit their reviewed financial statements, audited by their external auditors, within the designated period.
He stressed that the ASE has made these statements available on its official website [www.exchange.jo](http://www.exchange.jo)) under the circulars and disclosures section (Quarterly Data).

Jordan's sectors add 184,926 jobs in 2024 — JEF

AMMAN — The Jordan Economic Forum (JEF) issued a fact sheet on Saturday, titled "Job Creation in the Kingdom in 2024: Concentration and Beneficiary Groups". The paper tracks net job creation, a key tool for measuring the economy's capability to absorb new entrants to the labour market and mitigate worsening unemployment rates, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The paper noted that results of the 2024 Job Creation Survey showed that 184,926 individuals aged 15 and above had assumed new jobs, while 89,584 others left the labour market during the same period. The paper indicated that a total of 96,421 new job opportunities were created in the Kingdom's public and private sectors, equivalent to around 96.4 per cent of the annual target set within the Economic Modernisation Vision (EMV). JEF said that this growth reflects the extent of efforts made to enhance labour market dynamism and "effective commitment" to the vision's path to generate "sustainable" jobs that contribute to reducing unemployment and improving living standards. For beneficiaries, the paper noted that the new job opportunities were distributed at a rate of 69.3 per cent for males, equivalent to 66,804 jobs, and 30.7 per cent for females, equivalent to 29,617 jobs. The paper also indicated that the largest proportion of job opportunities created in 2024 was in the private sector, amounting to 75.7 per cent, reflecting "success of economic policies and reforms in enhancing job opportunities, despite the surrounding geopolitical challenge." The Kingdom's public sector accounted for only 23.6 per cent of these new jobs, indicating the private sector's "essential" role in achieving growth and employment goals within the vision. According to the report, "a clear trend dominated to prioritise employment of Jordanian workers in the local market, with lower percentages allocated to foreign counterparts." The paper said that the majority of new jobs targeted Jordanian nationals, representing 90 per cent of the total opportunities. Non-Jordanian Arab nationalities accounted for 6.2 per cent of the overall jobs, while non-Arabs received 3.7 per cent of the total posts. In terms of the distribution of new job opportunities by economic activity, the paper noted that Jordan's manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade sectors accounted for the largest share, with equal percentages of 15.4 per cent each. Jordan's public administration and defence sectors accounted for 14.6 per cent, the education sector's share stood at 11.5 per cent and the health sector stood at 10.2 per cent, Petra noted. © Copyright The Jordan Times. Jordan: JCI issues report on boosting national exports to global markets

AMMAN — The Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) on Thursday issued an analytical report designed to bolster industrial export competitiveness and expand the national product's footprint in global markets. The comprehensive report includes technical and regulatory requirements for entering several promising, non-traditional export destinations, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The publication complements an earlier report, "Promising Markets for Jordanian Industry," which identified an estimated $7.4 billion in untapped export opportunities worldwide. JCI Director General Hazem Rahahleh underscored the report's role in the chamber's strategy to build an "integrated" framework supporting export decision-making. He stressed that global market success transcends "mere" product quality, hinging critically on manufacturers' capacity for international compliance and their grasp of market-specific legislation. Rahahleh highlighted the JCI's commitment to enhancing its analytical and networking tools, in "direct" alignment with the national objectives articulated in Jordan's Economic Modernisation Vision (EMV). The report serves as a practical guide, empowering Jordanian industrialists to navigate the regulatory, health and technical prerequisites for market access, ultimately aiming to diversify and expand Jordan's export base geographically. It provides focused insights into strategic and emerging markets, including the US, the EU, Kenya, Rwanda, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It also analyses key sectors for competitive advantage include food products, chemicals, plastics, pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. For the US market, the report highlights "essential" food export requirements, stressing the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) registration, compliance with the Food Safety Modernisation Act (FSMA), implementation of the Foreign Supplier Verification Programme (FSVP), a food safety plan, and adherence to labelling mandates. Regarding the EU, the report includes technical and environmental regulations governing chemical and plastic exports, such as traceability systems, packaging and environmental safety standards. It also addresses specific requirements for certain food products like potato chips and dairy, including acrylamide reduction protocols and veterinary oversight, aligning with international Codex specifications. In Africa, the report clarifies technical prerequisites for exports to Kenya and Rwanda, particularly for fertilisers and chemicals. The East African Community (EAC) member states require adherence to unified technical standards, encompassing heavy metal testing, multi-language labelling, and local quality and registration certificates. For Central Asian nations, the report includes procedures for exporting pharmaceuticals and medical devices to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The report includes mandatory registration with relevant health ministries and obtaining conformity certificates from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), alongside Uzbek language labelling and the implementation of digital tracking systems like "Asl Belgisi." The report forms part of an ongoing series from the JCI's Studies and Strategies Department, designed to enable national industries to expand into international markets, thereby boosting the value-added contribution of exports to Jordan's Gross Domestic Product.

Jordan: Royal Court chief attends part of sectoral workshops on agriculture, food security, healthcare

AMMAN — Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi on Thursday attended part of the sectoral workshops focused on agriculture and food security and healthcare. Held at Royal Hashemite Court (RHC), the sessions are part of the second phase of the Economic Modernisation Vision (EMV), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Issawi stressed that the EMV, launched under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah, represents a 'strategic' national choice. Issawi noted that the RHC's step to host these workshops reflects "clear commitment" to His Majesty's directives to implement the vision within specific timeframes. He pointed out that the EMV aligns with the broader paths of political and administrative modernisation, forming a comprehensive Royal vision cantered on the Jordanian citizen and the improvement of public services across all sectors. Issawi added that holding dedicated sessions for the agriculture, food security, and healthcare sectors is of 'particular significance,' given their fundamental role in the national economy and their direct impact on citizens' daily lives. Experts, academics, and representatives of the private sector and civil society organisations who were involved in drafting the EMV, as well as media professionals, are participating in the sectoral workshops, scheduled to run until July 29. The workshops will serve to solidify the EMV as a blueprint for successive governments within the stipulated timeframe, the statement said. The workshops, which are held periodically for each phase of the EMV, provide an opportunity for a responsible and independent review of its implementation. The workshops will ensure essential feedback is gathered, and will enable plans for optimisation of the vision's initiatives and recommendations, to keep pace with technological and technical developments, in line with the best modern practices, the statement said.
