Wealdstone boss Gibson leaves club

BBC News26-05-2025
Wealdstone manager Neil Gibson and assistant manager Lee Jones have left the National League club by mutual consent. The Stones escaped relegation from the National League on the final day of the season with a 3-1 win over Halifax.Gibson took over in January with the club 21st and a point from safety after the departure of Matt Taylor to Solihull Moors.A club statement said that Gibson and Jones could not relocate from Wales to Ruislip due to the cost of living."These circumstances have made it particularly hard to operate as a full-time management team based locally, something the club has always seen as vital for success and cohesion at this level," it said.A cut in the first-team budget for next season was also cited, making it "increasingly difficult to meet shared ambitions"."While efforts to secure investment in the club continue, no new funding has yet materialised," the statement added. "The financial reality means we must live within our means and not put the future of Wealdstone FC at risk."

Concrete sales plunge to 62-year low as hopes for Labour's building boom fade

Demand for concrete has fallen to its lowest level since 1963 in a serious blow to Labour's hopes of building more houses. Sales of ready-mixed concrete fell by 11.5pc in the three months to June against the previous three months, according to data from the Mineral Products Association (MPA), which represents producers. The product is widely-used in housebuilding to lay foundations, and provide the base for flooring and driveways. The figures suggest that Labour will miss its target of building 1.5m new homes by the end of this Parliament 'by a significant margin', the MPA said. Concrete sales have fallen by a third in 10 years, and more than halved over the last 20 years. The drop means that annual sales have not been this low since 1963 – before the nationwide housing and infrastructure building boom that transformed Britain. The MPA said that sales of other building materials, such as mortar and sand, also fell, with demand for most products at 'historically low levels'.

Colts RB Salvon Ahmed carted off practice field

August 3 - Indianapolis Colts running back Salvon Ahmed sustained an apparent severe injury to his right leg during practice on Sunday and was carted off the practice field. The severity of the injury was not immediately known for Ahmed, who was injured after being dragged down from behind by undrafted safety Trey Washington. Practice immediately was stopped after the tackle as trainers rushed to Ahmed. They placed his leg in an air cast while Washington could be seen being consoled by his teammates. Ahmed, 26, last played in an NFL game in 2023. He spent last season on the practice squads of the Denver Broncos and Colts. Ahmed has 163 carries for 593 yards and five touchdowns in 38 career games (four starts) for the Miami Dolphins. --Field Level Media
