Country park wardens warn over barbecues as Scotland prepares for heatwave
Temperature will hit the high 20s in parts of Scotland during Saturday and Sunday.
The hot, dry weather comes as the Trnsmt music festival is about to begin on Friday and continue through the weekend, with thousands of music fans gathering on Glasgow Green.
The Met Office says the heatwave will last longer than the one experienced earlier this summer and cover a larger part of Scotland.

Earlier in July, parts of the north of Scotland were hit by wildfires on a 'vast scale' which burned for several days, prompting a police investigation.
In May, a discarded barbeque led to a large fire the size of two rugby pitches breaking out in the Trossachs, killing nesting birds and other wildlife.
Leigh Hamilton, ranger service manager at Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority, said: 'May's wildfire at Glen Finglas, caused by a carelessly discarded, disposal barbecue, is a stark reminder as to the devastating impact a single reckless act can have on our national park.'
She said the ranger service 'cannot be everywhere', adding: 'This summer, as we face continued drier, more fire-prone conditions, we urge everyone to be vigilant and act responsibly, especially during high-risk periods.
'Avoid naked flames including disposable barbecues, dispose of waste properly, and call 999 immediately if you witness a wildfire.
'Everyone has a part to play. If you care about this landscape, help us protect it.'
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) urged people to take simple precautions as they prepare for the heatwave, including staying hydrated and watching out for signs of heatstroke.
Policy director Steve Cole said: 'Heat is no longer just a holiday perk – it's a growing public health risk.
'We're seeing more frequent and intense heatwaves, both in the UK and globally, and the data shows a clear rise in heat-related illness and fatalities.'
Met Office chief meteorologist Neil Armstrong said earlier: 'Scotland is also expected to meet heatwave criteria over the weekend.
'This hot spell is forecast to last longer and cover a broader area than previous ones so far this summer, and affect areas further north and west.
'For updates, do keep an eye on the Met Office forecast as the picture develops.'
Meanwhile, Dr Nick Riches, public health registrar at NHS Lanarkshire, said people should look out for vulnerable neighbours who may struggle in the heat.
Dr Riches said: 'People should try to avoid being in direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day between 12 noon and 3pm.
'Replenishing fluids is really important to reduce the risk of becoming dehydrated in the heat. Everyone should be careful to take extra liquids (cold tap water is ideal), at regular intervals.
'It is important to keep indoor temperatures comfortable, particularly for those who are less able to control their body temperature such as young children, the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions.'

Fires force evacuations of Grand Canyon, other US parks
Wildfires have forced evacuations for visitors and staff at two national parks in the US West as the summer monsoon season brings increased lightning to the arid region. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, about 420km southwest of Denver, closed until further notice after lighting strikes sparked blazes on both rims, park officials said. The Grand Canyon's North Rim in Arizona also closed because of a wildfire on adjacent Bureau of Land Management land near Jacob Lake. The wildfire on Black Canyon of the Gunnison's South Rim ignited on Thursday and has burned 6.5sq km, with no containment of the perimeter. The smaller blaze on the North Rim was out as of Friday, according to an incident map. Fire danger has ramped up in the West as drought conditions have worsened across several states. While monsoon season can drop much-needed moisture on the area from June through September, it can also bring dust storms and thunderstorms like those that ignited the wildfires in the Colorado and Arizona parks. Firefighters saved Black Canyon's visitor centre along the South Rim by removing dry vegetation and coating the building in a layer of protective material, fire officials said. Small aircrafts from Colorado's Division of Fire Prevention and Control dropped retardant from the sky Friday while ground crews tried to contain the burn. Some park equipment and sheds were damaged, the park said. In Arizona, the Coconino County Sheriff's Office said it helped evacuate people from an area north of Jacob Lake and campers in the Kaibab National Forest nearby. The fire began on Wednesday evening after a thunderstorm moved through the area, fire officials said. "Gusty and erratic winds" spread the flames on Thursday afternoon and inhibited firefighters from containing the blaze, Bureau of Land Management spokesperson Rachel Carnahan said. By Friday afternoon it had burned about 44sq km with zero containment, and dark clouds of smoke settled over the Grand Canyon. About 500 visitors who planned to stay in the park overnight were evacuated Thursday night. Employees and residents on the North Rim were told to shelter in place. Some guests had just checked in when the inn got a call from the sheriff's office saying everyone should leave immediately. The staff began calling and emailing guests who were out exploring. Even as smoke rose around them, the evacuation felt precautionary because of the wind direction, Rich said. In 2020, a wildfire came within six metres of some cabins.

Tourists, residents evacuated from Grand Canyon due to wildfires
Fast-spreading wildfires have forced the evacuation of part of the Grand Canyon, with the US National Park Service ordering visitors and residents away from its northern rim. "Due to the advancing Dragon Bravo Fire within Grand Canyon National Park, all North Rim residents are now in 'GO' status and should evacuate the North Rim immediately," the National Park Service said in an X post on Friday afternoon. The Dragon Bravo Fire, which was sparked by lightning and has been burning since July 4, was 150 acres (61 hectares) in size Friday evening and zero percent contained, a US government incident report said. Park Service staff had already cleared the North Rim, which is less popular with tourists than the South Rim, of some 500 visitors late Thursday. Day-use access to the area was also closed due to a larger blaze called the White Sage Fire, which was burning outside the Grand Canyon National Park. However, it was approaching Jacob Lake, Arizona, a small settlement known as the gateway to the North Rim. About 10,973 acres (4,441 hectares) have been scorched by the White Sage Fire which is zero-percent contained, according to authorities, who released images of large columns of smoke rising above the scrubby desert. Jon Paxton, press officer for the Coconino County sheriff's office, told AFP that a hotel and some businesses had been emptied. "Most of the folks we evacuated were campers," he said. "This area is high desert and mostly open forest for camping." - Started by lightning - The White Sage Fire was also started by lightning, during a thunderstorm on July 9. "Crews encountered very extreme fire behavior due to the dry conditions (and) gusty and erratic winds inhibiting the ability for fire fighters to safely engage the fire," the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) said. One of the greatest wonders of the natural world, the Grand Canyon is the result of the Colorado River eating away at layers of red sandstone and other rock for millions of years, leaving a gash up to 18 miles (30 km) wide and more than a mile (1.6 km) deep. Park Service advised against any hiking into the canyon, due to extreme heat and wildfire smoke. A 67-year-old man died on Tuesday while attempting to reach the river in hot conditions. Last year almost five million people visited the world-famous site.
