Travis Head leading Australia's survival against West Indies on Day 2
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (AP) — Travis Head was leading another Australia attempt to be competitive against the West Indies on Thursday in a first test that may not go beyond three days at Kensington Oval.
West Indies claimed a 10-run first-innings lead when it was bowled for 190. Australia then rallied from 65-4 to 92-4 by stumps on day two. Australia led by 82 runs with all the pressure seemingly on Head to survive.
He counterpunched in the first innings with the only half-century of the test so far but bunkered down in the second innings to defy another brilliant effort by the West Indies quicks.
For his stubbornness, Head copped a blow on his left glove from Alzarri Joseph in the day's second-to-last over. Head was 13 not out off 37 balls with support from Beau Webster, 19 not out off 24.
After 14 wickets tumbled on day one, 10 were claimed on day two on a pitch still offering seam and movement for the speedsters.

On Saturday afternoon, on day two of the 2025 NHL Draft, they acquired 24-year-old defenseman Jordan Spence from the Los Angeles Kings. In return, they give up the 67th overall pick and a sixth-round selection in 2026 (originally Colorado's). In 180 career NHL games, Spence has collected eight goals and 61 points. He is signed for the 2025-26 NHL season with a contract that carries an AAV of $1.5 million. Born in Manly, Australia (a Manly Man), Spence was a fourth-round selection (95th overall) by Los Angeles in the 2019 NHL Draft. Circumstances may change if Jensen's recovery from offseason hip surgery goes well and he is ready for training camp. The organization could decide that a puck-mover to partner with Tyler Kleven as an alternative to Nik Matinpalo is ideal. And suddenly, we may have some interesting battles shaping up at training camp this fall. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has backed up his actions by declaring himself ready to be the next Queensland fullback as coach Billy Slater mulls his options for the State of Origin decider. Teenager Pretorius hits century on S Africa Test debut
Teenager Lhuan-dre Pretorius has scored 153 on his debut and Corbin Bosch an unbeaten maiden century as a much-changed South Africa reached 9-418 for nine on the opening day of the first Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. After electing to bat, South Africa were in early trouble at 4-55 with the ball nipping around in the fresh morning conditions, but Pretorius, 19, put on 95 for the fifth wicket with fellow debutant Dewald Brevis (51) to change the course of the innings. He said: "It was amazing. I was quite nervous (when I walked in). I'm glad (the debut is) over. We knew they only had two seamers and we knew we could take the spinners out of the attack. I just love batting, fortunately it worked out for me today." Pretorius's153 came from 160 balls as the left-hander became the youngest South African to score a century on a Test debut, hitting 11 fours and four sixes. Zimbabwe twice felt they had him caught behind, but with no third umpire in operation for the two-game series, their vociferous appeals were turned down with no way to challenge the decisions. Seamer Tanaka Chivanga got early joy for the hosts with an excellent spell of bowling, picking up three wickets in the first session and adding the prized scalp of Pretorius for figures of 4-83.
