Genie Bouchard wins in Montreal to extend her tennis career. Raducanu and Osaka advance
Bouchard, who reached the Wimbledon final and two other Grand Slam semifinals in 2014, announced this month that she would retire after a final appearance in her hometown tournament.
She then opened it with her first WTA Tour victory since 2023 — and the 300th of her career — and advanced to face No. 17 seed Belinda Bencic.
Bouchard reached No. 5 in the rankings in 2014 but the 31-year-old has largely switched to pickleball, playing just one match this season before being given a wild card into the Montreal tournament.
After splitting the first two sets, Bouchard broke the 82nd-ranked Arango twice — first with a forehand, then from the Colombian's missed volley — to build a 5-1 lead in the decisive third.
Arango broke back with Bouchard serving for the match to make it 5-2, but the Canadian went up 40-love in the ensuing game. Arango then sent her backhand wide on Bouchard's second match point.
Bouchard waved and blew kisses to the crowd after the win.
'I told my family that if I won, I would come out of retirement,' she said from center court. 'I felt like the old Genie out there.'
Emma Raducanu, playing just two days after losing in the semifinals in Washington, beat Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-2, 6-4. Naomi Osaka, in her first tournament since announcing she would no longer work with coach Patrick Mouratoglou, eliminated Ariana Arseneault 6-4, 6-2.

Brad Keselowski had the car to win, putting in an incredible performance Sunday at Iowa Speedway, but it still wasn't enough to reach Victory Lane. He won both Stage 1 and 2, and led 68 laps in the No. 6 RFK Racing Ford. However, when a flurry of cautions plagued the race right around the opening of the final fuel window, it became a guessing game for those up front on when to make the final stop. Keselowski did his best to time it well and made a valiant charge back up through the field, but the sheer amount of cautions helped Chase Briscoe and William Byron to stretch the run far longer than they would have under green. Keselowski ended the race third in one of his best runs of the 2025 season, but he remains far away from a playoff berth. "Just the way the yellows fell," said Keselowski after the race. "We had so many yellows there in Stage 3 that it got the 24 and the 19 to where they could make it on fuel pitting way outside the window, and we just couldn't get back by them. "Got back by a lot of guys, restarted (26th) there after we pitted, and got all the way up to third, but that was as far as I could get." Watch: 'The way the yellows fell' held Keselowski back from Iowa win Sunday's run also follows a fourth-place finish in the Brickyard 400, but this upward trajectory will be too little, too late if Keselowski doesn't find a way to win one of the next three races before the playoffs begin. And even if there were more laps, Keselowski doesn't think it would have changed much. While he was running down Briscoe, Ryan Blaney was rapidly approaching both drivers in the battle for second. "Blaney was really fast there at the end," noted Keselowski. "He had a little bit newer tires, and he was running us down. I feel like I was going to get the 19 [Briscoe], but Blaney was going to pass me. It was a solid day, just needed a few more things to go our way." The Indiana star kept the brutal honesty going by saying that she's not the only one in the WNBA that feels this way. The 33-year-old driver got bumped several times in today's Cup Series race. And while he thankfully was able to avoid anything catastrophic, finishing 28th was not where the No. 5 Chevy imagined he would be when the day started. After losing out on valuable position going into one of the turns ahead of the caution, Larson finally had had enough and went off on his team's radio. "How much f—ing room do I have to leave people?" Larson yelled, via Dustin Albino. "... I've been trying to be a good teammate, a good competitor and it hasn't gotten me anywhere for the last hour." Larson and fellow Hendrick wheelman Chase Elliott had quite a few awkward situations ensue during Sunday's action. Where in one instance Kyle almost wrecked Elliott's No. 9 ZL1, but the former Cup Champion was somehow able to keep himself from spinning out and suffering some serious damage in the three-wide pack.
