'None of them (the 33 Dreamliners) are maintained by Turkish Technic,' Chandrasekaran clarified in an interview with Times Now's Navika Kumar, amid social media chatter following the incident.
He explained that most of Air India's
Boeing 787-8 fleet
is serviced by
AI Engineering Services Limited
(AIESL), and some by
SIA Engineering Company
, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines. The clarification comes in response to rising questions about the crash and the airline's global maintenance tie-ups.

Chandrasekaran also said that none of the 33 Boeing 787 Dreamliners that are part of Air India's fleet are serviced by Turkish Technic, amid questions being raised about any Turkish link to the aircraft that crashed.
The former union minister for civil aviation Praful Patel has questioned the 'silence' of Singapore Airlines, which he said, apart from being a shareholder in Air India, was also responsible for maintaining a significant number of Air India's wide-body aircraft.

Chandrasekaran, in the interview, responded to Patel's claims, stating, "Singapore Airlines has been a great partner. And since we took over, they have helped us in many dimensions. Even some of the safety procedures, the best processes, we have taken from Singapore Airlines.
'We have taken it from Vistara, and many of the processes where we needed best-in-class benchmarks, they have helped us. They have reached out even at this time, their CEO is in constant touch with me. Whether it is customer experience or any other process, they are always available. They have been offering all the help they can."

Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Wednesday "apologised" for the
Air India plane crash
in Ahmedabad last week that claimed more than 270 lives.
In an exclusive interview with the Group Editor-in-Chief of Times Now and Times Now Navbharat, Navika Kumar, Chandrasekaran said, "It is an extremely difficult situation where I have no words to express to console any of the families of those who died."
"I deeply regret that this accident happened in a Tata-run airline. And I feel very sorry. All we can do is to be with the families at this time, grieve with them and we will do everything to support them at this hour and beyond," Chandrasekran was quoted as saying in a release.
Over 270 people were killed on June 12 when a London-bound Air India plane -- a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner -- carrying 242 passengers and crew crashed into a medical college complex in Ahmedabad and crashed less than a minute after takeoff.

Air India releases Rs 25 lakh interim compensation to more families of crash victims
New Delhi: Air India said on Saturday that so far, its has released the interim compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the families of 147 of the 229 deceased passengers, and also the 19 persons who lost their lives at the accident site of the AI 171 plane crash in Ahmedabad. In addition, the requisite documents of 52 others have been verified, to whose families the interim compensation will be released progressively, the Tata Group-owned airline said in a statement. Over a month ago, Air India started releasing interim payment of Rs 25 lakh to the affected families, to help them meet their immediate financial needs. 'Air India stands in solidarity with the families and those affected by the AI 171 accident. We continue to mourn their loss and remain fully committed to providing support during this difficult time,' said the airline. To provide further support, the Tata Group has also registered 'The AI 171 Memorial and Welfare Trust.' The Trust has promised to restore the infrastructure of the B.J. Medical College Hostel, which was damaged in the accident, and to provide an ex gratia payment of Rs 1 crore for each of the deceased. The Trust will also provide aid and assistance for alleviation of any trauma or distress suffered by the first responders, medical and disaster relief professionals, social workers, and governmental staff who provided invaluable institutional support and service in the aftermath of the accident, as per the statement. Last month, an Air-India flight from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after take-off, killing 241 on board and 19 on the ground. A preliminary report by the Air Accidents Investigation Bureau (AAIB) revealed that the aircraft's engines had shut down just seconds after take-off due to fuel supply being cut off. However, a full report is yet to be announced.

Air India pays interim damages to families of 166 crash victims
Private carrier Air India on Saturday said it has paid the interim compensation to the families of 166 victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash last month. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to modernize the Turkish air force, and has made efforts to purchase F-35 fighter jets from its NATO ally, the United States. The Eurofighter fleet would give a significant power boost to the Turkish, enabling them to counter any aerial threat from Israel or other rival nations like Greece or Cyprus. Many fear than Ankara may use it air power to bully fellow NATO member Greece, with whom it has a dispute over Cyprus and a maritime border dispute over the right to extract gas in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. However, Turkish officials say that Ankara has agreed to Germany's condition that the Eurofighter fleet will only be used under the general guidelines of NATO, which means Turkey cannot use the fighter jets against a fellow NATO member like Greece. Notably, the European Union (EU) wants a stronger Turkey to counter Russia if Moscow launches an attack on NATO countries. What's Israel's concern? Ankara's move has created an uproar in Israel with Leader of Opposition Yair Lapid attacking the Benjamin Netanyahu government for being unable to stop the deal. Lapid stated that Turkey has the largest and most powerful navy in the Middle East and now wants to match Israel in the air as well, which will endanger the security of the Jewish nation. Beyond the Eurofighter jet deal, Turkey is also working on an agreement with the US to procure 40 F-35 fighter jets.
