Old Man Takes Odd Driving Shortcut In Rome
Read the full story on Backfire News
Like a real life scene straight out of The Italian Job or Mission Impossible, an elderly man in Rome drove his car halfway down the famous Spanish Steps. A bystander who witnessed the whole thing filmed the little hatchback driving onto and down the famous stairs, probably sensing something weird was about to go down.Authorities reportedly tested the man to see if he was drunk, but he wasn't. In other words, he was just some old guy who got confused. Considering how younger drivers sometimes mistake railways as roads, only to get their Jeep stuck, that's actually not too difficult to believe.
The poor guy told two security guards who approached him that he was just trying to get to work. It had to have been early in the morning, judging by the complete lack of sunlight.
Those security guards called police, who responded to the rather bizarre situation.
We have to wonder if the old guy was just following his phone's navigation when he took the 'shortcut.' Sometimes our GPS has tried to take us through some interesting 'roads.'
That car had to have been really stuck because authorities couldn't drive it out of the place where the old man stopped. Firefighters eventually called in a crane and hoisted the vehicle out there, creating quite the spectacle for tourists and residents.
Offering a steep pathway between Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Trinita dei Monti, the Spanish Steps are popular with tourists visiting the city. That made the incident all the more shocking for those who have visited Rome and probably recognize the staircase.
Say what you want about America's big cars, but this sort of think would never happen with a Cadillac Escalade. The thing wouldn't even fit the entrance to the stairs, let alone get halfway down. But since the elderly man was driving a little European hatchback, he was able to get surprisingly far.

Texas Starbucks customer fumes over ‘illegal' joke that barista wrote on her cup: ‘It's offensive'
A Texas Starbucks customer claims she and her culture were the target of an 'offensive' joke written on the lid of her drink by one of the store's employees. Blanca Lopez, who is Hispanic, ordered a horchata latte during a trip with her two daughters to the Starbucks inside the Irving, Texas Target store on June 23, CBS Texas reported. One of Lopez's daughters noticed their mother's cup had a message scribbled in black marker across the clear lid, an abnormality for a company known for writing customer names on the side of its products. 'What do you call a sick eagle?' the cup asked, according to a photo obtained by the outlet. 'Illegal,' the riddle answered. 7 Blanca Lopez stands outside the Irving, Texas Target where she was handed the offensive joke at the Starbucks location inside the store on June 23, 2025. CBS TEXAS/YouTube Lopez was left in shock by the joke written on her order. 'It's basically saying that we are sick, illegal individuals that do not belong in this country,' she told the outlet. Lopez recalled her confusion when she first saw the message, unsure if the note was a light-hearted joke or an attack on her identity. 'When I read it, I'm like, OK. Was I supposed to laugh or what do I need to do?' she told the outlet. 7 'What do you call a sick eagle?' the cup asked. 'Illegal.' Why did she write this?' she added. 'For me, like, it's offensive.' Lopez said the joke hit close to home as she had friends and relatives deported because they were in the country illegally. In January, 84 illegal immigrants were arrested during an ICE raid in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to Fox 4. The outraged customer reported the joke to the store's manager, who told her there would be a team meeting to ensure it didn't happen again, CBS Texas reported. 7 Lopez recalled her confusion when she first saw the message, unsure if the note was a light-hearted joke or an attack at her identity. CBS TEXAS/YouTube An hour later, he canceled the gathering after no one showed up. However, he still walked into the Target, livestreaming for his Facebook followers, in search of the Starbucks, but was stopped by a store employee who told him to leave the building because he was recording inside. 'It's not easy to organize our community to raise their voice, I understand that protesting is already very difficult but acting is quite simple. Even Starbucks and Target have responded to our insistence to clarify their position on the offensive 'ILLEGAL' advertisement,' Quintanilla wrote. 'Let's suspend our protest in forgiveness and let's Protest in Silence!' The Post has reached out to Starbucks and Target. Quintanilla defended the illegal immigrants living in his community while outside the store. 'It's not just inappropriate, it's disturbing,' he told CBS Texas. 'Especially right now, when the narrative being thrown out in mass media is if you're illegal, you're a criminal, and if you're a criminal, you're illegal.'

Wage Your War With A Saxon 105
Read the full story on Backfire News Owning a military vehicle like this 1986 Saxon 105 could be a lot of fun, if you can figure out what to do with it. This debatably classic might be road legal where you live, but it can only reach a top speed of 55 mph, so going on the highway wouldn't be all that know for some, the allure of owning a military vehicle overrides any inconvenience, because playing with big trucks that have been used in warfare or at least were designed to fight is just too cool. The Saxon was used by the UK military as an armored personnel carrier. A few other groups used them, but it's most likely this one carried Brits in operations, or at least training exercises. Motivating this truck is a Bedford 6-cylinder diesel engine. If that doesn't mean anything to you, this might not be the vehicle for you, because this is a far cry from a Toyota Corolla. Also, the asking price is $82,000 so you really need to want one of these things to even seriously consider it. Plus, the owner says you have to put down a $500 deposit and be supervised to take it for a spin, so he's filtering for genuine buyers only. If that doesn't scare you off, this Saxon 105 is pretty cool and we don't see too many up for sale these days. The seller says the tires are new, so that's a plus. There are two telescoping cameras that are joystick controlled, two monitors, night vision, and upgraded LED lights in the cabin. Just keep in mind the interior is a little rough, but that's to be expected with a decommissioned military vehicle. Maybe you're the one to make this a bougie Saxon 105? According to the release, Hortman was the first woman and one of fewer than 20 Minnesotans to lie at the Capitol. The three were killed on June 14 in a targeted attack.
