Wage Your War With A Saxon 105

Read the full story on Backfire News Owning a military vehicle like this 1986 Saxon 105 could be a lot of fun, if you can figure out what to do with it. This debatably classic might be road legal where you live, but it can only reach a top speed of 55 mph, so going on the highway wouldn't be all that know for some, the allure of owning a military vehicle overrides any inconvenience, because playing with big trucks that have been used in warfare or at least were designed to fight is just too cool. The Saxon was used by the UK military as an armored personnel carrier. A few other groups used them, but it's most likely this one carried Brits in operations, or at least training exercises. Motivating this truck is a Bedford 6-cylinder diesel engine. If that doesn't mean anything to you, this might not be the vehicle for you, because this is a far cry from a Toyota Corolla. Also, the asking price is $82,000 so you really need to want one of these things to even seriously consider it. Plus, the owner says you have to put down a $500 deposit and be supervised to take it for a spin, so he's filtering for genuine buyers only. If that doesn't scare you off, this Saxon 105 is pretty cool and we don't see too many up for sale these days. The seller says the tires are new, so that's a plus. There are two telescoping cameras that are joystick controlled, two monitors, night vision, and upgraded LED lights in the cabin. Just keep in mind the interior is a little rough, but that's to be expected with a decommissioned military vehicle. Maybe you're the one to make this a bougie Saxon 105? Would You Boogie With This Chevy Van?

Read the full story on Backfire News Far from your average Chevy G10, this van has been customized to look like a shag-carpeted ride from back in the day. But the crazy interior touches were recently done, as was the innovative idea of putting the sliding door on struts so it lifts up dramatically, even if that's not practical for parking lot though we wouldn't stop to consider this thing, we also know some people will think they've died and gone to heaven. The blue shag carpet is… something. That's paired with red leather or vinyl that's tufted with buttons for even more of a throwback appearance. But wait, there's more, plenty more. For some reason, the rear cargo area has a sink and cabinet, then a partition with a single step that allows you to climb into what we assume is supposed to be a sleeping quarters of some sort. Yes, technically you could live in this thing with its natural exterior patina. Just expect as you drive through neighborhoods people will watch you suspiciously. Apparently, under the elevated section are storage drawers. There are plenty of LED lights throughout the interior, perfect for lighting things up as you're parked down by the river for the night. This boogie van will get moving with a 350ci V8 nestled between the front seats. The owner says it has a new Edelbrock Performer chrome intake manifold, plus new spark plugs. Power is channeled through a TH350 transmission. Plus, there are cool ankle-burning side pipes to give this van that extra pop, which will impress all your house guests for sure. Imagine yourself living out of this van, or maybe just using it for epic road trips. Maybe this is your dream ride? Check out this Chevy's listing here. Images via Jeff Ferguson/Facebook Marketplace

This Off-Road Race Finish Is Literally Insane

Read the full story on Backfire News If you're aren't watching Championship Off-Road racing, you're missing out, as the finish to this race clearly shows. Things got crazy as the first and second place drivers literally battled it out during the last Champ Off-Road race that took place on June 22 was the Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run. Held at the Crandon International Raceway in Wisconsin, the venue is known as the 'Big House' among off-road racers. In other words, it's a place where drivers test their mettle and the drive to win is huge. Fans also look forward to the Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run, which has been an annual tradition since the 1970s. Featuring tight turns, the short course demands plenty of skill from drivers while putting the fans close to all the action. There's an energy there, which surely contributed to this dust-up. In the lead at the beginning of the final lap was Keegan Kincaid, who was racing in front of his hometown crowd while behind the wheel of the No. 4 Lucas Oil/Maxxis sponsored Ford. But CJ Greaves was hot on his tail, and the man had won the last three Potawatomi Community Cup races, intending to make this his fourth. While powering through one of the sweeping turns on the course, Greaves got a little sideways, his from passenger tire getting tangled in Kincaid's deformed fender. Try as they did, the two couldn't get untangled for about 20 seconds. That allowed third-place Kyle Chaney to catch up right as the other two trucks took off again, making it a three-way sprint to the finish. But as the trucks entered Calamity Corner, a 180-degree turn with an infamous past, Greaves fell behind. Kincaid pulled ahead of Chaney at the last second, then he crashed into the No. 4 truck, climbing onto its rear before he crossed the finish line in third while still mounting his opponent. What's really great is nobody got out of their truck and started throwing punches. Instead, Kincaid and Chaney stood on their trucks and embraced, then got down and laughed with Greaves about the crazy situation. Like we said, if you're not watching Champ Off-Road races, you're missing out. Images via Champ Off-Road

Old Man Takes Odd Driving Shortcut In Rome

Read the full story on Backfire News Like a real life scene straight out of The Italian Job or Mission Impossible, an elderly man in Rome drove his car halfway down the famous Spanish Steps. A bystander who witnessed the whole thing filmed the little hatchback driving onto and down the famous stairs, probably sensing something weird was about to go reportedly tested the man to see if he was drunk, but he wasn't. In other words, he was just some old guy who got confused. Considering how younger drivers sometimes mistake railways as roads, only to get their Jeep stuck, that's actually not too difficult to believe. The poor guy told two security guards who approached him that he was just trying to get to work. It had to have been early in the morning, judging by the complete lack of sunlight. Those security guards called police, who responded to the rather bizarre situation. We have to wonder if the old guy was just following his phone's navigation when he took the 'shortcut.' Sometimes our GPS has tried to take us through some interesting 'roads.' That car had to have been really stuck because authorities couldn't drive it out of the place where the old man stopped. Firefighters eventually called in a crane and hoisted the vehicle out there, creating quite the spectacle for tourists and residents. Offering a steep pathway between Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Trinita dei Monti, the Spanish Steps are popular with tourists visiting the city. That made the incident all the more shocking for those who have visited Rome and probably recognize the staircase. Say what you want about America's big cars, but this sort of think would never happen with a Cadillac Escalade. The thing wouldn't even fit the entrance to the stairs, let alone get halfway down. But since the elderly man was driving a little European hatchback, he was able to get surprisingly far. Image via CBS News/YouTube

Lando Norris Plays Second Fiddle To Oscar Piastri

Read the full story on Backfire News An explosive new report claims Lando Norris is now playing second fiddle to Oscar Piastri as McLaren has made its decision. Famously at the beginning of the season, team papaya was letting the two drivers push each other, holding neither back while splitting resources between them evenly. But it seems that's the deciding factor came in the Canada Grand Prix on lap 67 when Norris hit Piastri. Team rules are few, but one is a an obvious: don't hit your teammate. But Norris clipped the rear tire of the MCL39 being driven by Piastri right at the end of the race as the two were fighting to claim fourth. The contact resulted in Norris spinning out, hitting the outside of the pit wall. Arguably, the whole thing was his fault, so it was only fair he suffered the consequence. And apparently more consequences are coming as McLaren has now decided Piastri is the one to push for the championship. Ultimately, Piastri won out in the Canada GP, getting the fourth place finish while Norris picked up a disgraceful DNF. It was a sad outing for a team that's been dominating the Formula One season as neither driver achieved a podium finish. Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher told Sky Deutschland, 'I believe that it is now internally decided that Piastri is the man the team will focus on in terms of the World Championship,' reports Planet F1. 'Lando shows too many weaknesses and makes too many mistakes, including his senseless driving into the back of Oscar in Canada,' he went on to explain. Unlike another prominent driver in F1, Norris did admit he screwed up and apologized to the team and his teammate after the race. Even though Schumacher says he believes McLaren has chosen Piastri, he still believes Norris is faster. But the problem with the more seasoned driver is 'he has lost his nerve a bit.' Can he get it back and pull things together? Would McLaren reverse its alleged decision? There's plenty on the line as the F1 season progresses. Image via F1/X, mclaren/Instagram
