Maria Sharapova's jaw-dropping £18.5m mansion goes up for sale with its own bowling alley

Daily Mirror21 hours ago
Maria Sharapova is looking to sell her incredible mansion in Manhattan Beach after living there for 13 years with her fiance Alexander Gilkes, and the property boasts a number of unusual features
Maria Sharapova is reportedly selling her lavish mansion, which comes with its own built-in bowling alley and swimming pool. The former star, who won five Grand Slam titles during her impressive 19-year career, first made a name for herself when she won Wimbledon in 2004 at just 17 years old, defeating Serena Williams in the final.

The 38-year-old is now engaged to British businessman Alexander Gilkes, and the pair are planning to leave Los Angeles for pastures new. They currently own an extraordinary property in Manhattan Beach, but they're looking to sell their mansion and make a tidy profit.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Sharapova has put the five-bedroom property on the market for £18.5million ($24.995m), having purchased it for £3m ($4.1m) 13 years ago. Once the sale is complete, the couple plans to spend more time in Europe and with their family.

In a YouTube video posted by Architectural Digest six years ago, the ex-tennis star took viewers on a detailed tour of the property.
Custom-built in 2015 by KAA Design, the property offers stunning sea views and exceptional amenities. It features two built-in bowling lanes and an adjacent media room.
This makes the bowling area a perfect space for entertaining all ages, while being able to keep an eye on the scoreboard as guests knock down pins at their leisure.
Outside, there's a swimming pool, a seating area for friends to relax on and a built-in bench where Sharapova reportedly enjoys reading by the pool.

The property is also surrounded by lush greenery, ensuring ample privacy for its residents. The outdoor seating area is partially covered to protect against inclement weather during gatherings around the fire pit.
The house boasts a tasteful and practical interior design, with abundant modern storage solutions in every room. The bathrooms are luxuriously fitted with free-standing baths and dual vanity sinks.
High-quality artwork adorns the walls of the home, as well as plenty of modern furnishings and a built-in flat-screen TV to watch the latest films and media on.
There is even a small nook in the living room filled with natural light, perfect for those who like to unwind with a book or glass of wine as the sun sets over the City of Angels.
It remains uncertain whether Sharapova and Gilkes still reside in the property or if they've already relocated to Europe. The report adds that the couple own a house in Florida, which provides them with the option to return to the United States at any time.

Lord Allen proposals given full support of Jockey Club

Allen was due to take up the role on June 2 but his tenure was delayed as the BHA said he wished to 'continue meeting stakeholders to better inform his vision for the sport'. The BHA board currently has an independent chair, four independent directors and four member-nominated directors – two from the racecourses and two nominated by the sport's participants – but Allen wants to change that arrangement. Racecourses' ownership of media rights and fixtures is reportedly one of the sticking points for a proposed governance shake-up, but Jockey Club CEO Jim Mullen feels that while further discussion on such matters is necessary, it would be to the sport's benefit to create a 'stronger regulatory body'. He said: 'Without a strong regulator it's not possible for any sport to thrive and that's why we are fully supportive of Lord Allen's proposals for a fully independent BHA Board. 'There are still details on certain issues which will need to be thrashed out in time and to expect everyone to agree on everything would be unrealistic at best, a potential barrier to meaningful change at worst. 'We recognise that ownership of media rights and fixtures are extremely important to the profitably of racecourses and that's where we are aligned with small and large independent courses and RCA members. 'However, we don't believe that those views are incompatible with our strongly held opinion that British racing requires a fully independent regulator which is empowered to drive change, not only to benefit the sport now but for generations to come. 'We're supportive of the consultative approach that Lord Allen is taking and the importance he has placed on taking counsel from those across the sport before forming an opinion. Ultimately, whether Lord Allen takes up his role or not, a process has started which we think has the very real potential to create a stronger regulatory body.'

Successful Powys farmers scoop rosettes at Royal Welsh Show

The Powys couple who have been hugely successful at the Royal Welsh Show have picked up another pile of rosettes. Wynne and Linda Morgan who run the Ty Isaf farm near Newtown, took four more titles adding to a long history of success at the show for their British Blue cattle. 'We have done really well,' said Linda. 'Our bull was the male champion, the cow was first in her class, and our young heifer, who is just over 12 months old, she was reserve female and reserve overall champion. 'We are very pleased it's been very, very good. ' This adds to the couple's history of success after they won overall champion in British blue in 2014 for Ty Isaf Iesha Et who is related to their currently very successful herd. Unfortunately, this year the effect of the bluetongue restrictions across the Welsh border has limited their usual show schedule. 'We have been exhibiting at the Royal Welsh since 1989,' said Linda. 'To us it is quite local so we like to support it. 'This year because of the bluetongue restrictions it has been all Welsh exhibitors here. There are a few exceptions but there are a lot less competitors this year. 'It's going to impact us because we can't go over the border now into Shropshire, we usually do the Minsterley show but we can't go now. This will be out only one this year which is a shame.' 'We always love the show it is so friendly,' said Linda. 'To us it is a family show. "We have been coming here since our girls were in pushchairs – now we have our grandchildren in their pushchairs. 'It is amazing.'

Pimm's restocks sell-out item after clearing shelves in 48 hours

Pimm's is bringing back its limited-edition glassware which sold out 48 hours after launch this summer. Designed in collaboration with tennis pro-turned-artist Gabriella Taylor, the collector's set includes a 1L carafe and two wine glasses, with Gabi's hand-painted illustrations. Each illustration began as a hand-painted canvas before being printed onto the glassware. Priced at £34.99, the restock will be available on from Monday, July 28. Craig Watt, Marketing Manager at Pimm's said: 'We were blown away by how quickly the glassware sets flew off the virtual shelves earlier this summer, so we're thrilled to be bringing them back while the sun's still shining. Pimm's has always been at the heart of British summertime celebrations, and this limited-edition collection is the perfect way to enjoy every last sip of the season in style.' Gabriella Taylor said: 'I'm overwhelmed by how popular the collection has been and am so pleased we're able to provide Pimm's fans with a second drop. Within the collection, I wanted to capture all the little things that make a British summer so special – from sunshine and strawberries to those relaxed, joy-filled moments with friends and a glass of Pimm's in hand. I'm so excited it's back for more people to enjoy.'
