Nevada County deputies arrest woman suspected in axe attack following pursuit
According to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, the victim was at her home in Nevada City Saturday afternoon when the suspect showed up. Initially thinking the suspect was a delivery driver, the victim waked outside to meet her.
Deputies said the suspect pulled the axe from the trunk of her car and charged at the victim.
"The homeowner ran for her life and was able to get back inside her residence and lock the door," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
The suspect then struck the front door of the victim's home with the axe before leaving. Deputies said the suspect and victim had no known affiliation.
The victim called 911. After providing a description of the suspect, a deputy near Highway 20 and Washington Road found the suspect vehicle with a woman matching the suspect description behind the wheel.
During an attempted traffic stop, deputies said the suspect failed to yield, leading authorities on a pursuit for 13 miles. The California Highway Patrol along with police from Nevada City and Grass Valley assisted in the pursuit.
Deputies said units had the suspect boxed in at a gas station in Grass Valley, but she was able to flee after backing her car into a CHP vehicle and attempted to run over a Nevada County sheriff's deputy. She had also struck another uninvolved motorist.
The suspect was arrested off of Scopar Road, a dirt road in Grass Valley. Deputies said she assaulted a CHP officer which led authorities to place her in a body wrap.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Elisa Peraro of Grass Valley, was booked on suspicion of multiple offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon, evading police, obstructing a police officer, being under the influence of a controlled substance and vandalism.
Jail records show Peraro remains in custody as of Monday.

Lavonda Harmon, a resident of Houston, Texas, is now charged with one count of tampering with a witness in a felony Harmon is charged with three counts of second-degree statutory sodomy and one count of second-degree statutory rape. It is not immediately clear if either sibling has entered a plea in relation to the charges. Lavor Harmon's bond is now set at $2 million. Former Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías be to reinstated from domestic-violence suspension, wants to continue MLB career

Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías completed his domestic-violence suspension and will be reinstated by Major League Baseball on Thursday. Once he is officially eligible to play again, Urías, 28, will look to continue his MLB career, agent Scott Boras told Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. 'He still has every intention to continue his career,' Boras said [in Atlanta on] Monday. 'He's getting in shape. Obviously, he'll have options that are open to him.' Boras declined to get into specifics on the options or possible deals Urías has on the table. It's believed multiple teams have checked in on Urías, per Shaikin. Any team who signs Urìas will have to wait some time before he's ready to pitch in games. Urìas reportedly needs to get in shape. It's unclear if he could do that in time to return to the mound this season or if he would need the entire offseason to get back into baseball shape. Urías hasn't pitched in the majors since the 2023 MLB season. He posted a 4.60 ERA over 117 1/3 innings before he was suspended under the league's domestic-violence policy that September. It marked the second time in his career Urías was suspended by the league under that policy. Urías received a 20-game suspension in 2019 after he was arrested and charged with domestic battery. Urías served that suspension and returned to the team for the 2020 season. He was on the mound when the Dodgers won the World Series later that year, throwing a scoreless 2 1/3 innings to close out the contest. He performed well for the team over the next two seasons, posting a 2.57 ERA over 360 2/3 innings and earned down-ballot Cy Young award votes in 2021 and 2022. Urías was in the midst of an injury-riddled year when he received his second suspension from MLB in 2023. Urías was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence after allegedly getting into a physical altercation with his wife outside BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. That charge was eventually changed to five misdemeanors. Urías pleaded no contest to one of those charges. The other four were dropped. In 2024, video emerged of the 2023 incident, which showed Urías shove his wife into a fence. Urías appeared to take a swing at his wife as the two were being separated by witnesses. Urías' contract ended after the 2023 season and he went unsigned in 2024 while the league continued to investigate the situation. In March, the league announced Urías would be suspended through the 2025 MLB All-Star break, paving the way for his expected reinstatement Thursday.

Livermore police make arrest in July 4 weekend drive-by shooting
A Livermore man has been charged in connection with a drive-by shooting that took place over the July 4 holiday weekend, authorities said. According to Livermore Police, officers were called to the 300 block of Chestnut Street around 2 a.m. on July 5. When officers arrived, they found a 27-year-old Livermore man suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided aid to the victim, who was taken to a local hospital. The victim has since been released from the hospital and is recovering. Investigators said they believed the shooting was gang-related. In an update on Tuesday, police said they arrested 25-year-old Jesus Andrade of Livermore in connection with the shooting as he was leaving his home on July 8. He was taken into custody without incident. Police said Andrade was booked into the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on suspicion of shooting from a vehicle and assault with a firearm. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office has since filed charges in the case. The shooting was among several violent incidents that took place in Livermore on the morning of July 5. Officers also responded to a reported fight involving 30 people near the intersection of Chestnut and North "I" streets and a knife assault in the same area. Police said they also responded to more than 90 fireworks-related calls that night. "I want to thank all the officers and dispatchers who worked last night to manage an exceptionally high call volume while continuing to prioritize public safety," Police Chief Jeramy Young said at the time.
