8.7 Million Tourists Visited Egypt in the First Half of 2025

Egypt welcomed 8.7 million tourists between January and June 2025, a 24% jump on the same period last year. From January to May alone, arrivals rose 26 percent year‑on‑year, with the first quarter accounting for 3.9 million visitors.
Riding that momentum, officials are now targeting 17.5‑18 million arrivals for all of 2025, buoyed by strong demand from European and Arab markets, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
Tourism revenue reached USD 15.3 billion in 2024. Between July 2024 and March 2025, the sector generated USD 12.5 billion, up 15.4 percent year‑on‑year. The surge is driven by longer stays and higher spending per visitor, according to the ministry's statement.

Taarek Refaat Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony for two new Chinese textile projects in the industrial developer 'TEDA–Egypt' zone in Ain Sokhna, marking a fresh wave of foreign investment into Egypt's manufacturing sector. The projects, with combined investments exceeding $55 million, are set to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, while strengthening Egypt's presence in global textile supply chains. The first project, led by Bridge-Tex, involves the construction of a fully integrated textile complex on a 40,000-square-meter plot. With an investment of over $25 million, the facility will house 18 spinning lines, more than 100 fabric production lines, and six printing and dyeing lines. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to produce 25 million meters of high-quality fabrics and 105,000 tons of fibers annually, generating around 500 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect jobs. The second project, developed by F-TEX International, will be built on 55,000 square meters with 60 production lines for drawn textured polyester yarn (DTY). The $30 million facility is projected to reach full operational capacity by late 2027, with an annual production target of 130,000 tons and 400 direct jobs, contributing an estimated $150 million in annual export revenues. Gamal El-Din emphasized that these projects reflect growing international investor confidence in the SCZONE and the success of the partnership with TEDA–Egypt. He highlighted ongoing talks with Chinese partners to allocate an additional 10 km² for industrial development, following the near-completion of earlier expansion phases. 'These projects will not only add significant value to the local economy and create jobs, but also enhance Egypt's industrial integration and global supply chain competitiveness,' Gamal El-Din said, noting that SCZONE attracted $8.6 billion in investments across 297 projects over the past three years, including $4.4 billion in the last fiscal year alone. Representatives from both companies highlighted the export-oriented nature of the projects, with 80% of output destined for U.S. and European markets. Bridge-Tex expects annual sales of $120 million, with $100 million in foreign currency inflows, while F-TEX executives framed the project as a symbol of Sino-Egyptian textile cooperation, combining Chinese technology with Egyptian labor to achieve sustainable growth. DP World ILT20 Season 4 player auction set for September 30 - Middle East Business News and Information
The DP World International League T20 Player Auction for Season 4 will be held on Tuesday, 30 September in Dubai. The six tournament teams will each get the opportunity of adding 13 players each (a total of 78 players) to their Season 4 squads at the auction. Players interested in appearing for the Player Auction can register here. The last date of registration is Wednesday, 10 September. The six franchises will have a combined purse of USD 4.8 million to spend at the Player Auction. Details about the available budgets for the teams (including the remaining budgets from their direct signing allotment which can be used in the Player Auction), the auction order and the players list will be shared in due course. Egypt launches photography competition to promote underwater cultural heritage - Tourism
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has launched a photography competition to raise public awareness of Egypt's rich underwater cultural heritage. The competition, which begins Friday, 1 August, invites participants to capture artistic images of artefacts that emerged from the Mediterranean Sea and are currently on display at the Graeco-Roman Museum and the Alexandria National Museum in Alexandria. It comes in light of Egypt's efforts to highlight its submerged archaeological treasures aligning with its commitment to the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage. 'The competition is part of broader efforts to engage the public with Egypt's diverse heritage and to promote appreciation for historical finds recovered from beneath the Mediterranean,' said Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy. He added that this initiative reflects the ministry's ongoing dedication to enhancing awareness and appreciation of underwater cultural heritage and to showcasing Egypt's unique archaeological assets to the world. According to Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), the competition is one of several cultural events planned by the ministry to shed light on submerged heritage sites and artefacts. Full competition details and updates will be published on the ministry's official social media platforms. He continued that the photographers in Egypt and abroad are eligible to participate, with a photography window open from August 1 to 10 August, during the official operating hours of both museums in Alexandria. Submissions must be sent to [email protected] by Thursday, 14 August, and must include the photograph along with a short biography of the participant. Photos will be evaluated by a specialized jury comprising university professors and experts in photography and archaeology. The panel will operate under the supervision of the competition's technical secretariat. Ahmed Rahima, Assistant Minister for Human Resources Development and Head of the Central Training Unit, explained that evaluation criteria will focus on technical quality, creativity, and the ability to highlight the aesthetic and historical value of the featured artefacts. The names of the winners will be announced on 18 August, with an official award ceremony scheduled for 21 August. The ministry has extended an open invitation to both Egyptian and international photography enthusiasts to take part in this unique cultural initiative, which blends art, history, and heritage preservation.
