OXO HAS JAMES IN A STEW 5 James Buckley was detained when he tried to bring OXO cubes into America Credit: Rex INBETWEENERS star James Buckley was detained on suspicion of drug smuggling when he tried to bring OXO cubes into America. The actor, foul-mouthed teen Jay Cartwright in the Channel 4 sitcom, found himself on the wrong side of US airport security, who were confused by the small foil cubes he had in his bag. James explained he was bringing British gravy granules to his wife Clair's Scottish auntie Dora. But after confiscating his meaty contraband he is now on a watchlist and his boarding pass for US flights is marked SSSS (Secondary Security Screening Selection). On his and Clair's The Buckleys podcast, he said: 'Anytime I go to America I have to open my suitcase, not because I was smuggling drugs . . . it's because I tried to get some OXO cubes into the country.' Love Island receive over 1,000 complaints following 'bullying' scenes
Ofcom has revealed that Love Island received over 1000 complaints by viewers about the ITV2 show last week, with many outraged by Islander Harrison's 'misogynistic' behaviour Ofcom has revealed that Love Island received over 1,000 complaints last week, with viewers accusing Harrison and other contestants of displaying "misogynistic" behaviour. A total of 1,071 complaints were made across four episodes last week, with Friday's episode drawing in the highest number - 527 complaints. Ofcom told The Mirror that 280 of the complaints were related to "misogynistic behaviour, most notably by Harrison, Harry and Dejon," while 247 focused on "bully behaviour and mental wellbeing of contestants, most notably linked to Shakira being bullied" during the 18 July episode. Meanwhile, fans had already threatened to contact Ofcom last week over Shakira's treatment by Harry, Harrison, and Dejon, particularly after Harrison referred to Shakira and Conor as a "one-sided couple." As for the other episodes which received complaints, Sunday 20 July had 222 viewers complain over "alleged misogynistic behaviour by Dejon." Meanwhile, on Tuesday, 15 July, a total of 221 viewers lodged complaints, with the majority expressing concern over the "alleged misogynistic behaviour by Harrison." However, 44 were related to "how Lauren was portrayed in the edit of the episode" and 34 were about the "alleged bullying behaviour towards Shakira and Toni." For the episode on 17 July, 69 viewers complained about Harrison's "alleged misogynistic behaviour", while 27 complained about "alleged bullying behaviour and expressed concern for the mental wellbeing of Shakira." Ofcom has not yet confirmed whether it will launch an investigation into ITV in response to the complaints. ITV has several duty of care protocols in place, including providing Islanders with training before entering the villa that covers language, behaviour and the importance of mutual respect in relationships. It had been a pretty dramatic week inside the Love Island villa, with Lauren - who was previously coupled up with Harrison - being dumped from the villa after she was left single. Just a day later, viewers watched as Harrison chose to leave the villa and follow Lauren, with the controversial contestant revealing he still had feelings for him. During last Tuesday's episode, which received over 200 Ofcom complaints, viewers were left shocked after ITV aired a saucey bedroom exchange between Harrison and Lauren. Harrison could be seen reaching over to Helena and Harry's bed in the night and asking: "Do you have a condom?" Helena quickly grabbed one from a drawer, and Harry handed it over before the couple slipped under the covers. However, fans were unimpressed by the moment, especially since Harrison had recently admitted he still had feelings for his ex, Toni. Taking to X, one viewer wrote: "Did Harry just pass a condom to Lauren and Harrison???! I didn't know I was watching too hot to handle," while a second shocked fan said: "I have never. In all my years seen someone ask for a condom on #loveisland. Like yayyyyy for sexual safety but that is tooooooooooo much."

Love Island is cringe. But here's why I'm addicted

I'm not Love Island's demographic, but every night I watch twentysomethings kissing and burbling inanities at each other for an hour, so why am I tuning in? Firstly, it's a break from the death, destruction, inhumanity, corruption and incompetence served up in my daily news fix that makes me despair. I try nature programmes, but the destruction of habitat by humans and our failure to tackle climate change, ditto. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Secondly, it's on at the time my twentysomething daughter has designated mother/daughter time and she limits my viewing of the above. Plus we've watched The Last of Us (still not happy about the teaser ending…). I've learnt to stop asking annoying questions like 'why do they never swim in that pool?' ('turns bleached hair green'), 'why don't they read a book to pass the time?' ('who'd watch that?') and 'who does the cooking and cleaning for that handless, clarty bunch?' ('OMG'). If nothing else, Love Island provides an opportunity for people-watching | ITV 'Pulling for a chat' Thirdly, for a people watcher, the Love Islanders are as good as any other bunch of randoms, apart from not being random. They're identikit – slim, symmetrical – maybe more diversity would be more interesting/representative, although that might not shift as much product. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Fourthly, it keeps me up to date with current etiquette. I now understand the arcane differences between 'pulling for a chat', 'talking', 'closed off', 'exclusive', with the pinnacle being 'boyfriend and girlfriend', despite a 'couple' having spent two months sharing a bed. OK. Fifthly I enjoy wondering idly (and silently) if ignorance about the difference between avocados and limes, how to scramble eggs and the meaning of 'compatible' is commonplace and the effect of Covid home schooling. Also, how gullible are people to chat-up spraff? 'You look hot', 'I've never felt like this about anyone' and 'I don't like him/her, I'm all about you'. Really? Actions, not words, people. Turn the sound down – might as well – and see who's chasing who. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Remarkably tolerant This season it's the TikTokers providing the parody, serving 'the tea' in snippets, such as Bombshell Lucy's leaked voice-note intention of stealing Tommy. Also refreshing is the contestants' abandonment of the need to appear honourable or nice. Out to get what they want, they steal another's 'girl'/'boy' whatever the fallout, because 'that's what we're here for'. Unpopular? More air time. Be kind? So 2020. In fact, they're remarkably tolerant. How many times has Teflon Helena said 'oh god, that's just Harry' as he 'chats' to other women and asks if they're wearing underwear. Points also for tolerating his Speedos. I say tolerant, but refusal to be 'pulled for a chat' to deliver an 'I'm sorry if what I did upset you or made you feel disrespected' non-apology results in the opprobrium heaped on a Jane Austen Regency dance-floor dandy for failing to return a heroine to her chaperone post quadrille. Pity the hangry Dejon, who just wanted to eat pasta in peace, shamed into non-apologising to viewer favourite Yasmin, whose top quality is perfect posture – 'it's the pilates'.
