The burglary occurred on Tuesday night at a residence owned by Ketel Marte in Scottsdale, Arizona. According to reports, there were evident "signs of forced entry" at the home, suggesting that the thieves broke in instead of using an unlocked door or window.

Police verified that the house was unoccupied at the time—no one was there to confront the intruders—because Marte and his family were in Atlanta for the All-Star celebrations.
The stolen goods included "various personal items and jewelry," categorizing this as a "high-dollar" crime, a term used by police to stress the value of what was taken.
The Scottsdale police have stated that the investigation is still in progress, but currently, there have been no arrests. It appears the thieves timed it perfectly, knowing that Marte's public schedule left his home exposed.

In his third All-Star Game, he took the field as the National League's second baseman in Atlanta.
Batting third, Marte hit a two-run double down the right-field line in the first inning—making him the first Diamondbacks player to ever drive in multiple runs during an All-Star Game. That double was crucial in helping the NL clinch a victory in a thrilling finish, which was decided by a home run swing-off after the game ended in a 3-3 tie following nine innings.

Ketel Marte hasn't made any public comments regarding the burglary. Neither he nor the Arizona Diamondbacks have issued an official statement, leaving fans and reporters in the dark about his emotions. It's possible he's holding back to let the police do their job or he's just processing the breach of his privacy. Without a direct quote from Marte, we can only guess at the frustration and shock he might be feeling after such a bittersweet All-Star break.

Nikam: State must move SC against acquittal of accused

Kolhapur: Newly appointed Rajya Sabha member and special prosecutor for the 1993 Mumbai blasts Ujjwal Nikam on Monday urged state govt to immediately appeal to the SC regarding the acquittal of 11 surviving accused in the 2006 Mumbai serial blasts case. Speaking to the reporters in Solapur, where he was presenting a murder case before the sessions court, Nikam said, "The acquittal by the Bombay high court is a matter of study as to whether the law was misread or wrong evidence was collected." It should be noted that Nikam was not involved in the prosecution of the 2006 blasts. A Mumbai sessions court had initially convicted the accused, but the high court later overturned this decision on appeal. Nikam also went on to highlight similarities between the two major incidents. "In the 1993 blasts, RDX was used. Similarly, in the 2006 blasts, RDX was used again," he said. "Prima facie, it appears that Mumbai's sessions court pronounced the conviction based on the confession recorded by the accused under the Prevention of Terrorist Activities (POTA) Act, but the high court has found the same confessions not reliable," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Nikam suggested that now there is an urgent need to seek a stay on the acquittal by approaching the SC. "Many innocent lives were lost in the serial blasts. The HC not trusting the evidence is a serious concern. The govt, after studying the order, must immediately appeal before the SC," he said.

With unpaid fines of 5,000cr, UP to cancel RCs of 3L vehicles, suspend 60,000 licences

Lucknow: Cracking down on habitual traffic violators and unpaid fines worth over Rs 5,000 crore, the Uttar Pradesh traffic directorate has initiated a major drive to blacklist vehicles and suspend driving licences (DLs) of offenders. Vehicles with five or more pending challans and unpaid fines are being identified for strict action, including cancellation of registration certificates (RCs) to prevent them from plying on roads. According to officials, the traffic directorate forwarded a list of 3 lakh vehicles and 58,893 driving licence holders to the transport department for cancellation and suspension proceedings. The process has already begun, with 1,006 driving licences and 3,964 vehicle registrations suspended or cancelled so far. Bareilly zone tops the list with over 21,000 violators identified, including 5,833 DLs already recommended for cancellation and 130 RCs flagged. Meerut zone reported 1,323 violators, with 260 DLs already suspended. In Agra zone, 1,585 DLs were recommended for suspension and over 30,000 vehicles flagged for RC cancellation. Lucknow zone reported 4,351 vehicles and 1,820 DLs recommended for action. Additional director general (traffic) K Satyanarayan said the pending challan amount across the state runs into thousands of crores, primarily due to repeated violations by vehicle owners and drivers who avoided payment. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Those with five or more unpaid challans will have their RCs blacklisted, making their vehicles illegal to operate. Licences of such drivers are also being cancelled to curb reckless driving," he said. A detailed list was shared with the transport department this month, comprising 3,01,410 vehicles and 58,893 licence holders. Officials noted that many violators deliberately avoid paying challans as they expect courts to reduce the penalty amounts. In 2021, a total of 67 lakh vehicles were challaned, amounting to Rs 867 crore in fines. By 2024, the number of challans jumped to 1.36 crore vehicles, but the recovery stood at just Rs 105 crore, reflecting the scale of unpaid penalties. The traffic directorate also identified 20 districts with the highest number of traffic rule violations and road accidents. Lucknow tops the list, reporting 1,630 road accidents in 2024, resulting in 576 deaths and 1,165 injuries. Other districts with high accident rates include Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Agra, Bareilly, Noida, Hardoi, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Barabanki, Sitapur, Unnao, Meerut, Shahjahanpur, Azamgarh, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Kushinagar. Special enforcement drives are underway in these regions to improve compliance and reduce fatalities. Officials confirmed that a statewide crackdown is in progress, targeting not only habitual violators but also addressing road safety issues. The initiative, part of Uttar Pradesh's larger road safety strategy, aims to reduce rash driving, enforce traffic discipline, and ensure timely fine recovery.
