Parts of north AP gear up for heavy rain today as depression hits coast

Visakhapatnam: Parts of the Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, and Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) districts are bracing for heavy rainfall on Saturday (July 26), as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression and made landfall.
Under its influence, several areas in Srikakulam and parts of Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, ASR, Eluru, and NTR districts received moderate to heavy showers.
The depression, located over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal West Bengal and Bangladesh, moved west-northwestward, crossing coastal areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh on Friday morning. It is expected to advance across Gangetic West Bengal, northern Odisha, and Jharkhand by Saturday.
Heavy rainfall disrupted life in Amadalavalasa, Sarubujjili, Ponduru, and Burja mandals of Srikakulam district, causing waterlogging in paddy fields and blocking village roads. Downpours also slowed traffic and affected daily activities in ASR and Manyam districts.
According to the IMD, rainfall was recorded at most locations in coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and sporadically across Rayalaseema between Thursday and Friday.

PARIS (AP) — The roads were dangerously slippery after heavy rain. A fourth Tour de France title was all but won anyway, so finishing safely in the pack would do fine for Tadej Pogačar. Only four riders have won the showcase race five times: Belgian Eddy Merckx, Spaniard Miguel Induráin and Frenchmen Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault. Pogačar won four stages this year to take his Tour tally to 21 and 30 at major races, including six at the Giro d'Italia and three at the Spanish Vuelta. The UAE Team Emirates leader praised his teammates. 'I think the second week was the decisive moment," Pogačar said. 'We took more advantage.' Lipowitz, meanwhile, secured his first career podium at a Grand Tour, the alternative name given to the three major races. His performance, following his third-placed finish last month at the Critérium du Dauphiné, suggests the 24-year-old German rider could challenge in the near future. Traditionally, the last stage is largely processional with riders doing laps around Paris. It was the fifth straight year where Pogačar and Vingegaard finished 1-2 at the Tour. Vingegaard was second in 2021, before beating Pogačar the next two years with the Slovenian second. When Pogačar reclaimed his title last year, Vingegaard was runner-up. 'We've raised the level of each other much higher and we push each other to the limit," Pogačar said. 'I must say to him, big, big respect.' Pogačar has also won the Giro d'Italia, doing so last year to become the first cyclist to secure the Giro and Tour double in the same season since the late Marco Pantani in 1998. But Pogačar has not yet won the Spanish Vuelta, whereas Anquetil, Hinault and Merckx won all three major races. When Pogačar won the hilly fourth stage of this year's race, it was the 100th professional victory of his stellar career, all events combined. Pogačar is also the world road race champion. But powerful Dutch rider Mathieu van der Poel won it for the third straight year. Pogačar has also yet to win Milan-San Remo, with Van der Poel also beating him there this year. Bhatti reviews monsoon preparedness
Hyderabad: Deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday said that police and forest officials should not unnecessarily enter ROFR lands where farmers are engaged in agriculture. "The state govt has decided to provide solar pump sets, sprinklers, and drip irrigation equipment free of cost to these farmers under the Congress govt's Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam scheme, at an estimated cost of Rs 12,600 crore over three years," Bhatti said. At a review meeting with the officials in Kothagudem Bhadradri district, Bhatti reviewed monsoon preparedness and stated that the water levels in Godavari at Bhadrachalam remain under control. However, he instructed officials concerned to implement all relief measures and ensure the availability of life jackets. A control room, he said, should remain operational until the end of the monsoon season. Gurgaon: After a dry spell, most parts of Haryana, including the city, are likely to see moderate to heavy showers on July 28 and 29, with the monsoon expected to shift south of Delhi and intensify over neighbouring regions. According to IMD, rainfall activity is expected to be widespread across Gurgaon, Faridabad, and south Haryana areas, especially in the late evening and early morning hours. "Weather models show that a low-pressure system currently active over north India will move towards northeast Rajasthan. This will likely trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Rajasthan and northern Madhya Pradesh. Delhi, which lies just north of this system, could also see spillover rain," an IMD official said. Meanwhile in Delhi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature, however, stood at 28.8 degrees Celsius. On Monday, the maximum temperature is likely to go up to 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to be around 26-28 degrees Celsius.
