Insurance agent in Melaka charged with stalking, defaming ex-wife
PETALING JAYA : An insurance agent pleaded not guilty in two separate courts in Melaka today to five charges involving offensive communication, criminal intimidation and defamation against his former wife last month.
At the Ayer Keroh sessions court, Akmal Helmi Mat Sirat, 35, was accused of three counts of knowingly posting offensive content on Facebook intended to annoy and harass Masura Mustafa, 40, on June 30, July 3 and July 4 at Taman Bukit Piatu Mutiara, Bernama reported.
He was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000, a jail term of up to one year, or both, upon conviction.
At the magistrates' court, Akmal was charged with two counts of repeatedly following and intimidating the victim at Putra Melaka Hospital and a furniture shop from July 7 to 23, and posting a defamatory statement on Facebook on July 4.
He was charged under Sections 507A and 500 of the Penal Code, which carry maximum penalties of three years' imprisonment, a fine or both, and two years' imprisonment, a fine or both, respectively.
Sessions court judge Haderiah Siri allowed bail at RM15,000 for all three charges, with conditions, including no contact with prosecution witnesses and to report to the nearest police station once a month.
Magistrate Sharda Shienha Suleiman set bail at RM6,000 for both charges, and ordered Akmal to report to the police station weekly and to have no contact with prosecution witnesses.
Both courts fixed Aug 26 for case mention.
Deputy public prosecutors Wardah Ishhar and Syaza Nur Sharif appeared for the prosecution, while Akmal was represented by lawyer Haziq Aizuddin Subhi.

In Pudu, wife shocked after learning policeman husband was stabbed during KL patrol
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — The wife of a police corporal stabbed while on patrol in Pudu last week described her shock upon receiving a call from the hospital requesting immediate consent for emergency surgery. Norfazliana Osman, 35, said she was at their home in the Pudu police quarters when Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, contacted her around 1 pm on Thursday. 'They said they needed to operate immediately and asked for consent as part of his intestines might need to be removed due to the stab wound,' she told reporters at the hospital today. Her husband, Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman, remains in stable condition but is still weak and requires pain management, she said. 'I understand the risks of his job as a policeman, but as a wife, the fear is always there,' said Norfazliana, who has two children aged 11 and seven. She said it is uncertain how long her husband will remain hospitalised, but confirmed their children have been informed of his condition. Earlier, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay visited Mohd Nadzri at the hospital. Also present were Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management (Administration) deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju district police chief ACP Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras district police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan. Mohd Nadzri was seriously injured after being stabbed in the abdomen by a 56-year-old local man while patrolling with four other officers in Pudu Market, Jalan Yew. The suspect was arrested at the scene and has been remanded until next Thursday. Police conclude probe into Zara Qairina's death, 60 witnesses interviewed
KUANTAN, Aug 2 — Police have completed their investigation into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir, who was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory on July 16. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said about 60 witnesses from various parties had been interviewed in connection with the case. 'The investigation is complete. I expect the police will submit the papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers by next week at the latest,' he said when asked about developments in the case. He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Passing-Out Parade for the 12/2024 Maritime Junior Lieutenant Basic Course and the 18/2024 Maritime Class II Cadet Basic Course at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Maritime Academy (AMSAS) here today. Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on July 17. Her death sparked widespread reactions on social media after the case went viral.
