(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A 30-year-old cleaner was charged in the Ayer Keroh magistrates' court today with molesting a nurse in an operating theatre last month. Bokhari Abu Boshir Mohammad, a Bangladeshi national, claimed trial after the charge was read to him before magistrate Sharda Sheinha Suleiman, Berita Harian reported. Bokhari was charged with using criminal force with the intent to outrage the modesty of the 32-year-old nurse in an operating theatre at Melaka Hospital at about 8.30pm on June 9. The offence under Section 354 of the Penal Code is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, a fine, whipping or any two of those punishments upon conviction. The court fixed bail at RM4,000 with two Malaysian sureties who live in Melaka. The accused was also ordered to surrender his passport and report to the police every month. Document submission was fixed for July 18.

MELAKA, July 7 — A Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) volunteer was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) on Lebuh Ayer Keroh, near the Dusun Dato' Murad Prison yesterday. Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit said in the accident at about 12.45pm, the victim, Akmal Aniq Mohamed Ariff, 22, died while undergoing treatment at the Melaka Hospital for internal injuries. 'According to initial investigations, the accident occurred when a 41-year-old man driving a Toyota Innova MPV from the direction of Ayer Keroh to the Muzaffar Shah traffic lights collided with the victim's motorcycle on a slip road. 'The victim, an Ayer Keroh APM volunteer, with an address in Taman Semabok Perdana, was confirmed dead at about 3.40pm at the Melaka Hospital,' he said in a statement here last night. He added that the MPV was taken to a Puspakom computerised vehicle inspection centre for checks, while the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (for reckless driving). — Bernama

MELAKA, June 26 — Former Dewan Negara deputy president, Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad, pleaded not guilty in the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court today to a charge of accepting a luxury car as a bribe in 2015. He entered the plea after the charge was read out to him before Judge Elesabet Paya Wan. According to the charge sheet, Mohamad Ali is accused of corruptly accepting a Range Rover Sport from a company director as an inducement to award subcontract works for a land reclamation project in Kota Laksamana. The alleged offence took place at the company's office in Taman Kota Syahbandar, Melaka Tengah, in June 2015. The charge, under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, is punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act, which carries up to 20 years' imprisonment and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher. Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Ahmad Akram Gharib urged the court to maintain the same bail conditions set by the Shah Alam Sessions Court on June 18 - namely RM60,000 bail with one surety, surrender of the accused's passport, and a prohibition on contacting prosecution witnesses. He also applied for the case previously filed in Shah Alam to be transferred to Ayer Keroh so that both matters could be heard together. Defence counsel Md Yunos Shariff raised no objection, and the court fixed August 14 for mention. On June 18, Mohamad Ali had claimed trial in the Shah Alam Sessions Court to 20 charges of accepting RM235,000 in cash and three luxury cars in relation to the same reclamation project. — Bernama

MELAKA, June 25 — A husband and wife who are accused of abusing their 9-year-old daughter who is also disabled (OKU) to the point of causing her death, have been remanded for seven days at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court here. The remand order until Monday (June 30) against the biological mother and stepfather, aged 36 and 38 respectively, was issued by Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman to enable an investigation to be conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. On Monday, the media reported that a 9-year-old girl died at a private hospital here, believed to have been abused. Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit was reported to have said that his department received a report on the case at about 10.15am, after the doctor treating the child declared the victim dead at 9.45am. He was quoted as saying that the doctor had previously received a child patient who was unconscious when the victim's stepfather sent her to the hospital. He said an examination found that the patient had a broken leg and bruises on her head and body, suspected to be the result of abuse. — Bernama

Melaka teen charged with murdering mum and brother, injuring younger sibling in family tragedy

MELAKA, June 18 — A 17-year-old boy is accused of killing his mother and biological elder brother, besides injuring his younger brother at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court here today. For the first and second charges, the teenager is accused of causing the death of his 51-year-old mother and 21-year-old biological brother at No 7, Jalan RM3, Taman Rambai Mutiara, in the Melaka Tengah district between 5 and 5.30am on June 12. He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment for not less than 30 years but not more than 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, can be whipped not less than 12 strokes. No plea was recorded from the accused when the charge was read out in Mandarin by the court interpreter as the murder charge falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Meanwhile, for the third charge, the accused is charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm to his 13-year-old younger brother by using a folding knife at the same location on the same date and time. He is charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous bodily harm which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine or whipping. The teenager, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Farah Nabihah Sofian while the accused was represented by lawyer Cassian Anthony, with no bail offered for all three charges. Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani set July 24 for the case to be mentioned again. On June 12, the media reported that a female teacher and her eldest child died while her youngest child was seriously injured, believed to have been stabbed by a teenage boy who was also the victim's second child at their home. The incident is believed to have occurred at around 5am and the single mother and her son were found lying in a pool of blood in the living room. Police arrested the suspect who was found outside the house in a daze at the time and the weapon, a 20 cm folding knife with blood stains, believed to have been used in the incident, was found kept in a school bag outside the house. — Bernama
