Nats match franchise record in slugfest win vs. Angels
Brady House's tiebreaking RBI double in the seventh inning helped lift the Washington Nationals to a 15-9 comeback victory Friday over the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, Calif. HT Image
Each Nationals batter had at least one hit and drove in at least a run, with eight of them scoring at least once. Friday marked just the second time in the franchise's history where all nine batters had a run batted in. The other instance took place on June 2, 2017, against the Oakland Athletics.
CJ Abrams, Luis Garcia Jr. and Nathaniel Lowe all went 3-for-6, with Garcia and Lowe driving in two each. House finished 2-for-4. Josh Bell blasted his 11th home run of the season as he drove in three and scored three times, including on House's two-bagger off Angels reliever Sam Bachman . Jacob Young, the nine-hole hitter, also drove in three and scored twice as part of a 2-for-5 night.
Jo Adell homered and scored twice as he went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Nolan Schanuel and Taylor Ward each added a two-run homer. Luis Rengifo finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. However, all that was not enough as Washington rallied from deficits of 5-2, 7-5 and 9-8.
Friday's slugfest was a back-and-forth affair for the first five innings. However, it was Washington's bullpen, which entered Friday with the National League's worst relief ERA at 5.84, that shut down the Angels and allowed for the comeback victory.
Four Nationals relievers pitched 4 2/3 shutout innings and allowed just two hits and two walks. Brad Lord pitched 1 2/3 innings to get the win.
Zach Neto struck out in a pinch-hit appearance for Kevin Newman in the seventh for the Angels. It was the shortstop's first appearance since Tuesday. He jammed his right shoulder while caught stealing in a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. It was the same shoulder he had surgically repaired in the offseason, but an MRI showed no damage.
Neto, though, did not replace Newman in the field as Scott Kingery played shortstop the rest of the game.

TNT Sports stepping away from NBA TV
TNT Sports will relinquish oversight of NBA TV operations, it was announced today by TNT Sports Chair and CEO Luis Silberwasser . After a 17-year run with TNT Sports, day-to-day operations will revert to the league on Oct. 1. "We made several proposals to continue to provide services and operate the NBA TV network and related digital assets," Silberwasser wrote in a memo to employees of the Warner Bros. Discovery cable unit, as reported by Sportico. "However, we were unable to agree on a path forward that recognized the value of our expertise, quality content and operational excellence that our fans and partners have come to expect from TNT Sports." In July 2024, the league announced a new 11-year agreement with the Walt Disney Company, NBCUniversal and Amazon Prime Video to broadcast approximately 75 games on linear television in addition to all national games being available on streaming services. TNT's agreement called for a minimum of 15 games on broadcast television. TNT will continue to generate digital content for the league through Bleacher Report and House of Highlights and maintain editorial control of the Inside the NBA studio show. The highly popular program that features Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, Shaquille O'Neal and Ernie Johnson will air on ESPN and ABC.

Angels manager Ron Washington (health) out for rest of season
Ron Washington will not manage the Los Angeles Angels for the rest of the season due to a health concern, the team announced Friday. Bench coach Ray Montgomery will act as interim manager. Ryan Goins was promoted to the team's bench coach. Washington, 73, experienced shortness of breath and heavy fatigue while the Angels were playing a four-game road series against the New York Yankees last week. He returned to Los Angeles and underwent tests on June 20 but the team didn't elaborate on the details or results. Washington reportedly discussed his situation with players and coaches prior to leaving New York but has not spoken to reporters. He has not been in the dugout but has been around the team, according to general manager Perry Minasian, who said last Friday his main concern is for Washington's health. "We all know how important this is for all of us, but health is more important than anything, and me personally, I'm not letting him back in the dugout until I know he's 100 percent OK. I love the guy too much," Minasian said. Washington is in his second season with the Angels and has a 103-139 record with the team. Los Angeles is 40-40 this season. Overall, Washington holds a 767-750 record in 10 seasons. He guided Texas (2007-14) to the World Series in 2010 and 2011 with the Rangers losing each time. Montgomery, 55, is in his fourth season on the Angels' coaching staff. Goins, 37, has been an infield coach for the Angels since last spring, following an eight-year playing career with the Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox.
