AFL world sends flood of messages over news about Collingwood hero and partner
Jordan De Goey has endured a frustrating year with injuries, but the Collingwood premiership player has double the cause for celebration after some good news - on and off the field. De Goey and partner Aisha Jade McKinnon took to social media over the weekend to share the lovely news that they're expecting a baby girl. McKinnon posted a photo of her bump and video of the ultrasound, while also sharing footage of the lovely moment they found out she's expecting. "In the midst of our changing lives we were blessed with the greatest surprise of them all, baby girl coming soon," she wrote. The happy news sparked a flood of congratulatory messages, with Collingwood teammate Isaac Quaynor writing: "Congrats guys." Josh Daicos' partner Annalise Dalins wrote: "The best news!! Congratulations you two! Sending so much love." TV presenter Abbie Gelmie commented: "Oh honey, congratulations." While fellow Collingwood players Mason Cox and Oleg Markov also sent their well-wishes. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Aisha Jade (@aisha_jade) Baby joy and return to field for Jordan De Goey De Goey hasn't played at AFL level since May due to an Achilles issue, which was compounded when he suffered a concussion at training two weeks ago. But he made his long-awaited return alongside Bobby Hill in the VFL on Saturday, and got through unscathed. Speaking on Sunday after Collingwood's win over Richmond in the AFL, coach Craig McRae wasn't willing to put a timeline on their potential return to the top level. Fellow premiership-player Hill had missed several weeks due to personal issues. 'I'm not sure, we'll wait and see,' McRae said. 'It's about continuous training now having missed so much footy. I don't want to make a big statement but I did like some of the stuff we saw. He's a handy player to get back this time of year, isn't he?' Nick Daicos tipped to make Brownlow Medal history The Pies ended a two-match losing skid with a hard-fought 36-point win over the Tigers, in which Nick Daicos almost-certainly polled another three Brownlow votes. He tallied 42 disposals - one short of the personal best he set a week earlier - to go with three goals, 14 score involvements and 884 metres gained. Speaking on SEN radio on Monday, Kane Cornes tipped Daicos to eventually smash the record for most Brownlow votes in a career held by Gary Ablett (262). Daicos polled 38 votes in 2024, which would have broken the previous record for a single season if not for Patrick Cripps' staggering haul of 45. But Cornes reckons Daicos will go one better in 2025 and eventually wind up with the most Brownlow votes in total. "He might get that Brownlow this year after all," Cornes said. 'There's no one better running inside forward 50 taking a shot at goal than him. Gary Ablett Jr has the most Brownlow votes ever with 262. Nick Daicos will break that by a mile. He will end up being the most voted for player.' RELATED: Max Gawn comes clean after Demons' diabolical late mistake Brendan Fevola blocked from joining Collingwood due to refusal David King added: 'We all think he's in front, but there are still a couple of others there, Jordan Dawson and Noah Anderson, I think, are his biggest rivals. We haven't seen Nick use the ball as well as he used it on the weekend. He's been able to get a stack of ball, but his damage for some reason has been off for the bulk of the season. What a time to gather it at Round 20. 'It's a perfect time to have him just find this sort of form. Is there a guy that you just 'put your glasses down' more regularly when he's running inside 50 (to kick at goal)? You just go, 'Yep, that's going to go through'.'
