Anthony Richardson talks Florida playoff chances, DJ Lagway while in Gainesville
Former Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson sees his alma mater making some noise in the 2025-26 College Football Playoffs with DJ Lagway leading the program.
Richardson, a third-year starter for the Indianapolis Colts, was back in Gainesville last weekend for his Read Like a Gator initiative with the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida. Children aged 6 to 16 participated in a free football skills academy featuring Richardson, as well as other NFL players and a handful of Florida Gators players. While he was there to help with the community event, Richardson naturally took time to comment on the program he's followed since he was a kid in Gainesville.
"I'm actually looking forward to them running the playoffs this year," Richardson said of Florida. "So, I feel like they're gonna turn it around. It only takes a matter of time and the right plays a game, so, I trust in (Napier) and I believe in him."
Richardson was there for the first year of the Billy Napier era in Gainesville and can't help but feel proud of his former coach for weathering the storm and ending Year 3 with one of the hottest teams in the country.
"He's always been focused on winning," he said. "Whether that's having those rough couple of years, especially the first year when I was there, we were looking forward to having something better than what we produced. But he's been sticking through it, sticking through all the fire, and last year they had a pretty good season.
Anthony Richardson weighs in on DJ Lagway
Like most of the college football world, Richardson is high on Florida quarterback DJ Lagway. While it's natural to support someone a generation down the line of succession, Richardson had some genuine praise for the sophomore's big arm.
"He's a great player, "Richardson said of Lagway. "I like watching him ball ... I don't really bother him too much because he's already doing great things … He's young right now, but you can't really tell. He doesn't act his age at all. He's a phenomenal leader and I've never seen him really get too high or too low on himself, he's always trying to work. He's always asking me questions about how to get better and do certain things, and I always tell him, 'Man, just keep doing you and just keep working. Everything's going to take care of itself.'"
Richardson also conceded that Lagway might already have as strong an arm as him.

Alabama's Kalen DeBoer flips 4-star RB from Illinois
The post Alabama's Kalen DeBoer flips 4-star RB from Illinois appeared first on ClutchPoints. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer is under the microscope following an overall disappointing first season in Tuscaloosa. Despite outlasting Georgia in a wild game on Saban Field at the end of September, the Crimson Tide suffered a blowout loss at Oklahoma and missed out on the 12-team College Football Playoff. The two-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year aims to get the program back in prestigious standing, and his best route to doing so is via the recruiting trail. Advertisement DeBoer is on the attack, exemplifying the proactive style that helped him turn Washington into a national champion runner-up. He and Alabama just officially flipped 2026 recruit Javari Barnett, per On3's Hayes Fawcett. The 6-foot, 215-pound running back committed to Illinois in April. 'Not just doing it but imma do it big,' Barnett told Fawcett regarding his big decision. The Tampa Bay, Florida native will be staying close to home and plans to solidify himself as a valuable component of Bama's offense. Barnett is a three-star recruit on 247 Sports' rankings and had recently held the same standing on On3, but he is now a four-star prospect as of this report. Fighting Illini head coach Bret Bielema recently called out SEC teams for the number of conference games they play, and this latest defection may only stoke his fury toward the league. DeBoer is not going to apologize, though. He swooped in and grabbed four-star quarterback Jett Thomalla from Iowa State last week and is now raiding Illinois' cupboard. The Crimson Tide's path to success historically includes an impactful RB room, which Javari Barnett hopes to contribute to starting next year. Kalen DeBoer will get some leeway for a transitional 2024 season, but he is expected to formulate a clear vision in 2025 and beyond. It seems to be taking shape as we speak. Of course, the only thing that truly matters is how everything fits on the field. The summer grind is officially underway. Steelers' Cam Heyward delivered 'Welcome to the NFL' moment with massive hit on Giants RB
Cam Heyward's terrifying presence on defense served as another player's 'Welcome to the NFL' moment.' According to Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr., Heyward's massive hit in Week 8 last season was an eye-opener as to how 'different' the NFL really is: "It was Cam Heyward," Tracy said on NFL Network's Good Morning Football. "He's in the middle, obviously — he's a big dude, you can't miss him. I'm doing my inside zone and I'm thinking the gap is there. If you're a running back, you understand that like the hole is there, until it's not. And Cam Heyward, he's two-gapping, so he's making it look like it's there, and I try to hit in there. And this man hit me so hard. He hit me so hard to where I hit my head on the ground, and I just kind of had to lay there for a little bit. I needed a moment just to catch my breath, and to understand, 'Yeah, I'm in the NFL. They're just a little different.'" A little over a month ago, Raiders center Jackson Powers-Johnson claimed Heyward was responsible for his 'Welcome to the NFL' moment as well, with Tracy's recent example only further proving just how dominant the Steelers veteran truly is. Heyward's former Steelers teammate, QB Russell Wilson, is gearing up to lead the Tracy and the Giants' offense in 2025 — but the running back might not get to play with Mr. Unlimited for long, as one insider predicted that rookie Jaxson Dart could usurp the starting QB role in New York sooner rather than later.
