Miles Teller signs on to comedy movie Possum Song
The 38-year-old actor is to lead 'Sing Sing' director Greg Kwedar's upcoming flick as a Nashville star who had secretly stolen the songs for his hit debut album.
'Possum Song' will follow singer Eddie (Teller) as he faces mounting pressure to finish his follow-up solo album - or risk losing everything.
With a new wife and a baby on the way and just as hope begins to fade, he encounters an unlikely source of inspiration: a magical possum with extraordinary musical talent. But their collaboration comes at a steep and potentially perilous price.
As well as starring in the movie, Teller is to produce 'Possum Song' with Lee Stobby, while Kwedar and Clint Bentley also produce under their Ethos banner.
Kwedar will be working from a script written by Isaac Adamson, while FilmNation Entertainment is to produce and fully finance the movie.
FilmNation Entertainment's President of Motion Pictures Ben Browning told Deadline: "This is a one-of-a-kind film.
"Greg's vision, Isaac's hilarious script and the magnetic performance of Miles Teller will create the kind of cinematic ride that audiences are craving - with showstopping music, visceral shocks, possums, humor and emotion."
This comes just after it was reported Teller would star in director Paul Downs Colaizzo's 'Winter Games' for Paramount Pictures.
Sources told Deadline that 'The Gorge' star is attached to the project and will also serve as a producer alongside Tim and Trevor White.
The film – which was written by Colaizzo and Pat Cunnane - explores the intense pressure faced by athletes at the Winter Olympics, centring on two main characters: a self-destructive hockey legend and an overlooked skier.
Set in the Olympic Village, the story follows their intertwined journeys of romance, redemption, and the pursuit of gold.
Teller is no stranger to collaborating with Paramount Pictures, having starred in the 2022 blockbuster 'Top Gun: Maverick' alongside Tom Cruise, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, and the late Val Kilmer, who passed away last month at the age of 65.
'Winter Games' also marks a reunion for Teller with producers Tim and Trevor White and writer Cunnane - the team behind the upcoming romantic comedy 'Eternity', which co-stars Elizabeth Olsen and Callum Turner.
Teller is gearing up for a busy end to 2025, following news that he and Casey Affleck will star in the upcoming manhunt thriller 'Wild Game', written and directed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Jason Hall.
The 'Whiplash' actor previously collaborated with Hall on the 2017 drama 'Thank You for Your Service', and expressed his excitement about reuniting for this new project.
He said: "I'm really looking forward to reuniting with Jason Hall on 'Wild Game'.
"We've had a great collaboration in the past, and I know he's going to bring incredible depth to this story. Claude Dallas is such a complex and layered character—tough, relentless, and living by his own code. I can't wait to get started with this team."

The 1999 movie remake Pierce Brosnan as a rich playboy who enjoyed the thrill of stealing art, opposite insurance investigator Rene Russo. Lily Gladstone and Sir Kenneth Branagh are among the cast of the new film, although their roles are being kept under wraps. The upcoming movie takes place in Europe, and the art of thieving remains a central theme of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Drew Pearce has written the script, while Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff will serve as producers. Alan Trustman, who wrote the original film, has been hired as an executive producer on the upcoming movie. The romantic thriller is scheduled for release in March 2027.

Willem Dafoe eyes reunion with Robert Eggers for Werwulf
Willem Dafoe is in talks to star in director Robert Eggers' Werwulf. The 69-year-old actor - who previously worked with the filmmaker, 42, on The Lighthouse, The Northman and Nosferatu - is in negotiations to appear in Eggers' upcoming horror flick, Deadline has said. The Spider-Man star could be joining Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily Rose-Depp, who are also in talks to lead Werwulf. Werwulf is being penned by Eggers' The Northman co-writer Sjón, and is slated to hit cinemas on Christmas Day 2026 in the US. The director and scribe are also due to produce with Focus Features alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, who will be producing under Working Title. Meanwhile, Maiden Voyage's Chris and Eleanor Columbus will serve as executive producers. While plot details are unknown, Werwulf is expected to be a 13th-century werewolf horror flick set in England. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the dialogue will be 'true to the time period,' with translations and annotations provided to help audiences understand the Old English. Eggers has reportedly abandoned an earlier plan to shoot the film in black and white. As well as Werwulf, Eggers is also said to be in talks to work with Dafoe on a new cinematic retelling of A Christmas Carol for Warner Bros. The director's last release was 2024's Nosferatu, which starred Bill Skarsgård, Dafoe, Rose-Depp, Nicholas Hoult, and Emma Corrin, and followed a young woman haunted by the obsessive vampire Count Orlok. Eggers recently spoke about the gothic influences behind his take on Nosferatu, citing Jack Clayton's 1961 film The Innocents, based on Henry James's novella The Turn of the Screw. He said on Alamo Drafthouse's Guest Selects YouTube series: 'I think it is one of the best - perhaps the best - gothic ghost movie ever made. 'I watch it a couple times a year probably for inspiration. Freddy Francis was the cinematographer, who directed many Hammer horror films, but his finest collaborations are with Jack Clayton. 'And what he does with the camera was very inspiring to what my cinematographer and I were up to with Nosferatu.' Eggers added that another key influence for Nosferatu was Thorold Dickinson's 1949 film The Queen of Spades. The director said he aimed to recreate its 'fluidity and precision of the camera work' and was also inspired by its practical snowfall effects, achieved using potato powder instead of CGI. He said: 'And the atmosphere of the film is also incredibly effective. The snowy Russian streets is a sort of look and vibe we tried to create later in [Nosferatu], particularly the potato snowflake snowfall is very beautiful and we use the same kind of practical snow.' Eggers also credited Ingmar Bergman's 1972 drama Cries and Whispers as a major influence for Nosferatu, citing its 'ghostly atmosphere' and powerful performances. He said: 'Cries and Whispers by Ingmar Bergman is perhaps my favourite Bergman film. 'It's also one of the best horror films ever made even though it certainly doesn't try to be one, and wouldn't be classified as one.'

Matt Shakman addresses Star Trek 4: ‘It changed dramatically'
Director Matt Shakman has revealed the fourth Star Trek movie had 'changed dramatically' before he exited the project in August 2022. The 49-year-old filmmaker was due to helm the next instalment in the Star Trek franchise, though had left the movie by the summer of 2022 due to scheduling conflicts with The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Now, Shakman has revealed that his Star Trek movie was already in pre-production before he parted ways with the project. He explained to Variety: 'We had stages, we had crew, we were moving ahead.' However, Shakman admitted that plans for the fourth Star Trek movie had shifted significantly: the crew were let go, the stages were removed and the film 'didn't have a start date anymore'. Meanwhile, good progress on The Fantastic Four: First Steps was being made, and so Shakman dropped out of Star Trek to focus on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster. While the director refused to give any details on what his Star Trek movie would have looked like, Shakman teased the main concept of the film hadn't been changed to his knowledge. He said: 'The core idea, I think, remains the same. I really hope they get a chance to make that movie.' Shakman was announced as the director for the fourth Star Trek film back in 2021, and the movie would have seen the return of Chris Pine's Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto's Spock. While updates on the next Star Trek movie have been slow, Paramount Pictures has confirmed the project is still in development, though has not announced a release date for the film yet. Despite its development difficulties, the cast is still keen to return for another Star Trek movie. Zoe Saldana - who portrayed Nyota Uhura from 2009's Star Trek to 2016's Star Trek Beyond - said she would be 'grateful' if she were given the chance to make another Star Trek film. The 47-year-old actress told 'I just heard they're gearing up to do a new one with a younger, sort of, take on it ... I don't know if it's from the before or the after, but that they really still hope to grab all of us veterans and bring us back for one last round. 'Listen, I know it's a lot to wrangle a whole bunch of people with busy schedules. But working with [director] J.J. Abrams, and for J.J. Abrams at Bad Robot, was always just a wonderful and beautiful experience for me. So, if I get to do that one last time, I would be so grateful.' Meanwhile, Simon Pegg - who played Scotty in the Star Trek trilogy - said he would want to appear in a fourth Star Trek movie, though insisted the film would be 'forever tainted' by the untimely death of Pavel Chekov actor Anton Yelchin, who passed away at the age of 27 in June 2016 following a car accident. Appearing on Katee Sackhoff's podcast The Sackhoff Show, the Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning star said: 'I'd love to do more. Obviously it's been forever tainted because we lost Anton, and that was a really hard thing for everyone involved, and for the real world, let alone anything else. 'If we do come back, if there is another opportunity to come back, then I'd love to. Because as we were saying earlier on, it's a group of guys that I dearly, dearly love and don't get to see very often. It would be good to get back together with them.'
