Fabrizio Romano: Tyrell Malacia set to return to Manchester United

Yahooa day ago

Tyrell Malacia is expected to return Manchester United this summer after PSV Eindhoven declined to trigger the buy option in his loan deal.
Despite the successful end to the season for PSV, the Dutch club have opted against pursuing a permanent transfer. According to Fabrizio Romano, the option to buy was available but not exercised.
The 25 year old left-back joined the Eredivisie champions in January on a short-term basis, hoping to revive his career following a long injury layoff.

Malacia had spent over a year on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury during United's Premier League clash against Fulham. His absence stretched across two seasons, leading to an extensive and difficult rehabilitation process.
Having made a tentative return to first-team football midway through the previous campaign, he managed eight appearances under new United head coach Ruben Amorim before securing his move back to the Netherlands.
At PSV, Malacia featured sparingly but was part of the squad that secured the league title, adding a silver lining to an otherwise stuttering spell in his development.
The club had been hoping to offload the defender permanently this summer, as they continue to reshape their squad under Amorim.

Malacia's long-term fitness concerns and diminished explosiveness have limited interest from potential suitors, making a permanent departure challenging.
United remain open to another loan move, especially as they look to create room in the squad and recover value from a player once viewed as a long-term solution at left back.
If no exit materialises, the former Feyenoord man could be reintegrated into pre-season plans, though likely as a depth option rather than a first-choice starter.
Malacia's future at Old Trafford remains uncertain, with the transfer window well underway and decisions needed ahead of the new campaign.

What once looked like a promising career trajectory has become a waiting game—both for the club and the player.

Celtic sign 'highly rated' striker Osmand from Fulham

Striker Callum Osmand has joined Celtic from Fulham, with the Premier League club confirming that the "highly-rated" 19-year-old had rejected the offer of a new contract. Osmand, who has signed a four-year deal with the Scottish champions, has been at Craven Cottage since the age of 13 and has represented both England and Wales at youth level. Advertisement Last season, Osmand scored 18 goals across all competitions for Fulham's Under-21 side. The teenager revealed he received advice about the move from Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Matt O'Riley, who was a Fulham trainee before a successful spell at Celtic Park. "He was telling me about how big the club is, how amazing the fans are and it's a new life really," Osmand told Celtic TV. "So, 'excited' is definitely the word for me. It feels unbelievable. It's a massive move and I can't wait to step out at Celtic Park in front of all the fans. "When I spoke to the manager, he was really positive. The plan and pathway he has set out for the club is top." Advertisement Osmand becomes Celtic's fourth first-team addition of the summer following the arrival of fellow forward Benjamin Nygren from Nordsjaelland and the return of defender Kieran Tierney from Arsenal and goalkeeper Ross Doohan from Aberdeen. Fulham will be due a development fee from the Glasgow club. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers told his club website: "He's a quick and powerful striker and I'm really looking forward to working with him. "I'm sure he can be really successful with us. He is a highly-rated, talented young player."

Liverpool's Trey Nyoni signs new long-term contract with the club

Trey Nyoni has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool. The central midfielder turned 18 today, and the new deal rewards the impression and impact he has made since his arrival from Leicester City in September 2023. He signed his first professional contract in October 2024, having been training regularly with the senior squad. A special birthday for Trey! 🌟🎈 — Liverpool FC (@LFC) June 30, 2025 Upon signing the new deal, the teenager said: 'It means a lot, obviously supporting the club from young as well, so it's a great feeling. Now I have to go out and show why I've earned this contract. 'It's just step-by-step, day-by-day, just becoming better every day, improving as a player. I'm still young. You know, there's a lot of improvement. That's the most important thing.' After impressive performances in several different age groups in Liverpool's youth academy, Nyoni made his debut in the same campaign as a late substitute in the FA Cup fourth round victory over Southampton in February 2024, becoming the fourth youngest debutant in the club's history. He has also impressed head coach Arne Slot, as he was involved in pre-season and made five senior appearances last season — including in the Champions League against PSV, becoming the club's youngest-ever player in a European competition (17 years and 213 days). Advertisement Nyoni has also represent England at every youth level from undder-16 to under-20. A new contract for Nyoni is great news for him and Liverpool and underlines the faith the club have in his potential. The 18-year-old has been turning heads since he arrived at the academy and has been fast-tracked through the age groups because of his talent. The gifted midfielder has technical quality in abundance. He is calm in possession and is versatile, capable of playing in multiple midfield roles. The hope is he is the next gem to emerge from the academy that has seen a number of players come through and play first team minutes. It remains to be seen what Liverpool decide is best for his development this season, but the ambitious midfielder will no doubt be hoping to make another strong impression in pre-season and form part of Slot's first team plans.

St. Pauli conclude record sale of Philipp Treu to Freiburg

Sport Bild reports that transfer negotiations between two Bundesliga outfits swapping well over a month have finally wrapped. St. Pauli fullback Philipp Treu is now set to return to his former club SC Freiburg on a €5m deal. Treu – a Heidelberg native – came up through the Freiburg ranks and once featured for the SCF reserves in the 3. Liga. St. Pauli and Freiburg have both had an active summer transfer window. Interestingly enough, Treu will constitute the third transaction involving the two clubs. Hamburg's Kiezkicker opted to ship back Freiburg loanees Robert Wagner and Noah Weißhaupt earlier this month. Advertisement Treu's base-transfer-fee counts as a new record for St. Pauli. The sale, which could far exceed €5m via bonus payments, is the highest sum the Hamburg-based club have ever received for a player. Kicker – among others – reports that St. Pauli will utilize the proceeds to immediately finalize the purchase of recent FC Kaiserslautern standout Daisuke Yokota. The Japanese midfielder will serve as the Hanseatic club's eighth summer signing. Freiburg themselves have brought in four new summer additions, impressively concluding most of their targeted signings shortly after the Bundesliga campaign concluded in mid-May. The SCF front office then turned their attention to contract extensions. Exciting young Swiss prospect Johan Manzambi inked a new deal early last week. Shortly after that, it was time to reward club legend Vincenzo Grifo. Kicker reports that French talent Jordy Makengo will also extend this week. Advertisement 'There's no end in sight for Vince,' Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach said of Grifo on the occasion of the Pforzheim native's contract extension. 'He leads the way both on and off the pitch. It's not just his statistics that are important for the team. He also exudes confidence and composure, which is infectious and helps his teammates immensely. We want this to continue in the coming years.' 'When I came here in 2015, none of this was foreseeable,' one of Germany's most popular players himself added. 'Now it's my home. My heart lies in Freiburg. I've played 307 competitive games for SC. I'm doing very, very well here, both in terms of sport and privately. I want to continue on this path, play as many games as possible, help the young players, and also develop further personally.'
