Foggy mornings and isolated showers expected in KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal will see a mix of fog and light rain this week, especially in western regions. The day will begin with widespread fog patches in areas such as Pietermaritzburg and parts of the midlands, followed by isolated showers by late morning.
'We're starting tomorrow with some morning fog patches over parts of KwaZulu-Natal,' said Odirile Modipa, a forecaster.
'The fog will gradually lift, but isolated showers are expected to continue through the afternoon.'
The province is expected to remain relatively calm, with temperatures barely crossing the 20°C mark. Durban will drop to 13°C overnight, while Pietermaritzburg can expect a low of 9°C. Maximum temperatures are forecast at 22°C in Pietermaritzburg and 17°C along the cooler coastal regions.
Modipa noted, 'KwaZulu-Natal can also expect quite a cool day, with Pietermaritzburg only peaking at a maximum of 22°C and coastal areas around 17°C.'
The isolated showers will affect Western KwaZulu-Natal the most as the weather system affects the central interior as it pushes eastward. While rainfall will be light, farmers and residents should remain alert for reduced visibility and damp conditions.

Weather update: Cold weather to grapple Gauteng and three other provinces

Gauteng, the North West, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo will experience freezing temperatures as cold air is expected to move across the country starting Monday. According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), most areas in the province will remain clear initially, but significant changes are anticipated from midweek. Cool and sunny conditions are expected in many northern locations throughout the week. In Pretoria, Monday will bring cooler weather, with a minimum temperature of 4°C and a high of 15°C with clear sunny conditions. In Johannesburg, temperatures will drop to a low of 3°C, rising to 13°C by midday before cooling again in the evening. On Tuesday, temperatures are expected to rise slightly, reaching a maximum of 14°C in Johannesburg with no rainfall predicted. From Wednesday onward, temperatures in Gauteng are expected to improve, potentially signalling the end of winter as we approach August. Fine weather will continue in the northern parts of the country next week, including Limpopo and Mpumalanga, where it will remain warm. The SA Weather Service encourages the public to stay updated with the latest forecasts and warnings as conditions evolve throughout the week. KwaZulu-Natal coastal damaging waves warnings remain in place

KwaZulu-Natal will see warm and partly cloudy weather along the coast on Saturday, while inland areas remain cooler and unsettled. Forecaster Joel Guy confirmed the weather service still has a warning in place for damaging waves. 'We still have that warning for damaging waves along the KwaZulu-Natal coastal areas,' said Guy. Coastal towns like Durban and Richards Bay are expected to start the day with minimums in the mid-teens and remain mostly dry during the day. While the coast is milder, the interior will wake to cold temperatures. Pietermaritzburg and surrounding towns could see minimums as low as 6°C. 'It's freezing for Bethlehem, and also quite cold in Pietermaritzburg and Kokstad,' said Guy. Isolated thundershowers may develop in the afternoon, particularly over the western interior. The South Coast and adjacent inland regions face a 30% to 60% chance of rain. As the day progresses, conditions will become increasingly cloudy across the eastern half of the KwaZulu-Natal. However, Guy noted that it would 'stay fine for much of the day' before thundershowers appear late afternoon and early evening. Temperatures are expected to rise to the low 20s in coastal cities, while inland highs may struggle to surpass the mid-teens. Rain and thunder showers are expected in Gauteng this afternoon

Gauteng residents can expect afternoon and evening thunder showers on Saturday. According to weather forecaster Joel Guy, the eastern provinces will see renewed rainfall activity this weekend. 'Saturday we are going to once again see some afternoon and evening thunder showers across the eastern provinces,' said Guy. While Johannesburg will enjoy mostly sunny conditions early in the day, isolated thunder showers could develop later in the afternoon. The mercury is forecast to peak at around 21°C in Johannesburg and 22°C in Pretoria. The chilly morning conditions, however, will persist, with parts of the interior starting the day near freezing. Eastern Cape and interior remain cold, mirroring Gauteng's cold morning The weather pattern across the interior regions of the country, including parts of the Eastern Cape, mirrors Gauteng's cold morning. Temperatures in Bethlehem also hovered around freezing, while areas like Mthatha and Matatiele in the Eastern Cape started the morning at 6°C. Despite the cold start, most of the region will warm slightly by midday before isolated thunder showers move in. While inland regions shiver, coastal areas are set for milder conditions. Cape Town recorded a morning low of 10°C, while minimums along the KwaZulu-Natal coastline were mid-teens. 'It is going to stay fine for much of the interior, but the eastern areas will become partly cloudy later on with isolated thunder showers,' Guy explained.
