Presley Chweneyagae cause of death: Family sets record straight
The Tsotsi star was just 40 years old. He leaves behind a wife and children.
Speaking to the media, the family of Presley Chweneyagae shut down wild claims about his cause of death.
SABC reporter Chriselda Lewis posted on X of their claims: 'He passed away due to natural causes. No foul play suspected. He struggled to breathe. Paramedics were called, but it was too late'.
This comes after Sunday World broke news of Presley Chweneyagae's death, which they claimed followed a 'brief illness'.
The actor played the Oscar-winning role of Tsotsi in the 2005 film, which shot him into superstardom at the age of 25. He has also starred in other films and notable TV roles, such as iNumber Number, Zama Zama, The River, and most recently, Cobrizi.
According to a family spokesperson, Presley Chweneyagae's funeral service will take place on Saturday, 7 June.
Two memorial services will take place, the first on 3 June in Mahikeng and the second on 5 June in Pretoria.
Details will be shared in due time.

Who will represent South Africa at Miss Universe?
Miss SA organisers have postponed their 2025 edition to 'a later date' in the year, pending a rebranding under new management. What does this mean for the Miss Universe pageant, which takes place in less than three months' time? With Miss SA indefinitely postponed, pageant fans are eager to know who will represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant, which takes place on 21 November in Thailand. Should a new queen be crowned, they will undoubtedly have less time to prepare for the international competition. Pageant enthusiast and YouTuber Rina Hendriks told The South African : 'It is difficult to say who, if anyone, will represent South Africa. The Miss South Africa organisers have not been forthcoming when they have been confronted with questions of whether or not they even still hold the Miss Universe license to send a candidate there. 'In 2023, they got rid of the Miss World license without releasing a statement to the public. 'If they do, however, still hold the license for Miss Universe, then it is possible that they may still have the Miss South Africa 2025 pageant before Miss Universe starts in November. 'If the Miss South Africa Organisation does not host a pageant before November, it is always possible for them to appoint someone, likely the runner-up from 2024, or someone else who has not previously competed at Miss Universe'. If a new Miss SA is not crowned in time for Miss Universe, it's unlikely reigning queen Mia Le Roux will compete again. Last year, the partially-deaf winner dropped out of the competition during the preliminary stages, citing health reasons. Mia Le Roux dropped out of Miss Universe over health via Instagram: @mialerouxx Like her predecessor, Natasha Joubert, who was unplaced in the 2021 edition, Mia is prohibited from entering again, as per the competition's rules. Meanwhile, Miss SA organisation will now be part of the Motsepe Group of Companies, owned by Patrice Motsepe, one of SA's wealthiest businessmen. Earlier this month, Africa Fashion International (AFI) – the fashion partner of Miss SA – revealed that it was now the 'sister company' of the beauty pageant. Miss SA now falls under the Motsepe Group of Companies. Images via Instagram: @motsepefoundation/ @official_misssa 'AFI and the Miss South Africa organisation are proud members of a larger, family-owned group of companies, united by a shared vision for creativity and excellence', read a statement posted on their social media platforms. AFI is run by Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, the wife of Patrice Motsepe. WHO SHOULD REPRESENT SA AT THE MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT? Celebrated Hollywood actor no longer remembers being famous
American actor Bruce Willis has been struggling with his health for quite some time now. The star of the Die Hard movie franchise was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023, and sources close to him say he can hardly recall being famous. Best known for his roles in Die Hard (1988, 1990, 1995, 2007, 2013), the seminal Pulp Fiction (1994), and The Sixth Sense (1999), Willis has been battling this progressive brain disorder as best he can. It has taken its toll. His friends and family said he can no longer speak, read or walk independently. He had initially taken a step back from acting and retired in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that impairs communication. His last film, Assassin (2022) , saw him appear alongside South Africa's Nomzamo Mbatha. Reports suggest that he has no recollection of the global impact his career had. Glenn Gordon Caron, creator of Moonlighting (1985-1989), the series that propelled Willis' career, shared that while the 70-year-old is still visibly the person we all came to know through our screens, his vibrancy has dissipated. His sharp sense of wit has been blunted. 'The joie de vivre is gone,' Caron explained. Willis remains very close with his family and is being supported by them. His wife, Emma Heming Willis, and ex-wife Demi Moore, along with his five daughters, are his primary caregivers and protectors. They have used their celebrity to shed light on the effects of this crippling ailment. They have urged compassion and understanding when it comes to dealing with people who have FTD. Despite the devastating nature of this disease, Willis created a career which will see his efforts be celebrated for years to come. His breakout role in Moonlighting saw him attain both a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe for his performance as David Addison Jr in the hit TV series. His portrayal of John McClane in the vaunted action franchise that defined his career raked in $1.4 billion (R24 billion). At one point, he was the eighth highest-grossing actor in North America. His work on The Sixth Sense contributed to the film earning six nominations at the Academy Awards. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 11.
