Luis Robert Jr. returns to White Sox lineup after missing 2 games because of adductor soreness
CHICAGO (AP) — Luis Robert Jr. is back in the lineup for the Chicago White Sox after missing two games because of adductor soreness.
Robert was the designated hitter for Sunday's series finale against the crosstown Cubs, batting seventh. The center fielder wasn't part of the team's original lineup.
'The initial evaluation, he came in feeling better but still not in a spot where he could get out there in center field," manager Will Venable said. "We wanted to keep him plugged in and give him the opportunity to run around more, and he did. We talked about it, and he really talked his way into the lineup after that. We agreed that maybe center field wasn't the best thing for him but that we could utilize his bat and that he was good to go to DH. We ended up making the change.'
With the rebuilding White Sox in last place in the AL Central, Robert could be on the move ahead of Thursday's trade deadline. After a miserable start to the season, he began the day with a nine-game hitting streak.
'He's going to go out there and compete and play the right way, and if he's not able to do that, we wouldn't have him out there," Venable said. "At the same time, I'm probably not going to ask him to steal third base. That's fair. But he's going to be out on a major league field and running around, not to the degree we're used to, but he'll be out there.'
Robert, who turns 28 on Aug. 3, entered with a .206 batting average, 10 homers and 41 RBIs in 84 games.
Robert felt the injury when he stole second in the ninth inning of Wednesday's 11-9 victory at Tampa Bay. The White Sox were off on Thursday, and Robert rested during the first two games of the series against the Cubs.

White Sox takes victory 1-0 over Angels to leads series
Aaron Civale pitched one-hit ball into the seventh inning, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 1-0 on Saturday night to surpass their win total from last season. Chicago improved to 42-69 with its 10th win in 14 games since the All-Star break. It finished with a 41-121 record in 2024, breaking the modern major league record for most losses in a season. The White Sox scored their only run on Kyle Teel's RBI single in the second against Kyle Hendricks (6-8). Teel drove in Luis Robert Jr., who reached on a leadoff single. Civale (3-6) struck out eight in 6 1/3 innings. He is 2-0 in his last three starts, allowing an unearned run and seven hits in 17 1/3 innings. The Angels got their only hit when Zach Neto beat out a slow roller down the third base line leading off the fourth. It was the team's third consecutive loss. The White Sox played without infielder Miguel Vargas, who was scratched because of a left oblique strain. Nolan Schanuel walked after Neto's hit. But Civale retired the next three batters. Chicago began the day with 27 home runs and 90 runs scored since the All-Star break — tops in the majors. Right-hander Sean Burke (4-8, 4.17 ERA) starts on Sunday for the White Sox, and right-hander Jack Kochanowicz (3-9, 5.75 ERA) goes for the Angels.

Guardians Cy Young Award winner linked to Cubs in trade proposal
Shane Bieber hasn't thrown a major league pitch since the spring of 2024, but the award-winning righty still has some draft stock in him, it seems. The Chicago Cubs, though they're currently neck-and-neck with the Milwaukee Brewers for the lead in the National League Central, have a serious need of starting pitching on their team, though the offense is doing stellar thanks to the breakout of NL MVP candidate Pete Crow-Armstrong. But according to Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report, the Cubbies could be in line to land the 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner as he continues to recover from his surgery. In Reuter's article laying out one move for each MLB team to make before the 2025 MLB deadline, he labeled the Cubs making a trade with Cleveland to give them their ace in exchange for Chicago's No. 5 prospect Jonathon Long. Reuter calls back to last year when the Guardians pulled this kind of move at the trade deadline to pick up a then-rehabbing Alex Cobb, who ended up starting for the team as they advanced to the postseason and made it to the ALCS before losing to the New York Yankees. Cleveland and Bieber agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract this past offseason, and is still on his way back to the pros, striking out 14 batters in 7.1 innings over his first three rehab starts, clearly still showing signs of the Bieber of old. The Cubs still have just over 24 hours to make this move, assuming they want it that badly.
