Abandoned baby girl: Cops working to identify mother

MEMBAKUT: Police are now working to identify and locate the mother of a baby girl who was found abandoned in a box outside a house in Kampung Brunei, here, early Tuesday. Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Wong Leong Meng urged anyone with information to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Muhammad Hafizuddin Mohd Tarmizi at 012-4175332 or report to the nearest police station. He said police were alerted by a witness who found the baby. A handwritten note on the lid of the box read: 'There is my child in this box. Please take care of my child. May you be blessed.' Initial investigations revealed the witness had woken around 5.40am and noticed a white motorcycle — exact make unknown — with a registration plate beginning with the letter 'V' circling in front of the house. Nothing appeared suspicious at the time. 'The witness looked out through a window and saw the motorcyclist leave shortly after,' Wong said 'At about 6.10am, while preparing to leave for work, the witness spotted a box at the front door. 'Upon inspection, he found a baby wrapped in a towel along with some limes.' The baby was taken to the Paediatrics Ward at Beaufort Hospital for further treatment. 'She is estimated to be about 36 weeks old. Hospital staff have collected a blood sample for a paternity test,' Wong added. Then Kak M said, 'Yes, I still haven't forgiven Zara,'' Zara is heard saying. Man caught after failed snatch theft attempt in Setia Alam
SHAH ALAM: A man's attempt to snatch a necklace from a local in Setia Alam was thwarted when bystanders caught him yesterday evening. Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident occurred at 7.07 pm when the 37-year-old victim was heading to his car. The suspect, riding a motorcycle, tried to pull off the victim's necklace, but the victim fought back quickly. 'The suspect lost control and fell from his motorcycle. He tried to escape but was caught by nearby bystanders. Police later confirmed that the suspect, aged 30, owned the motorcycle but had used a fake licence plate. He is now under remand until August 7,' he said in a statement. Mohd Iqbal urged the public to remain alert and avoid being alone in isolated areas to reduce the risk of crime. Burglar nabbed after returning to crime scene to retrieve belongings
BALIK PULAU: A man who broke into a house in Batu Maung was caught after he returned to the scene to retrieve items he had left behind. The matter came to light in a viral video posted on the Facebook account "Amigos Media Viral" this afternoon. Southwest police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said initial investigations revealed that the suspect had entered the home through the back door while the domestic helper was outside disposing of rubbish. "Upon realising the presence of the complainant, the suspect fled the scene. "However, he later returned to the house to collect belongings he had left behind. "The complainant and several friends managed to apprehend the suspect and handed him over to members of a patrol unit on duty in Batu Maung," he said in a statement. Sazalee said the suspect had been detained and would be brought to the Balik Pulau magistrate's court tomorrow for a remand application. "Preliminary urine tests showed the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and benzodiazepines. "The suspect also has a prior criminal record for a drug-related offence," he added. Police advised the public to ensure that all doors and windows are properly locked and that home security systems are in working condition to prevent similar incidents. The case is being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code for house trespass, which carries a maximum jail term of three years, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both.
