Jeffrey, Yong tell of systemic challenges against change
Published on: Saturday, June 28, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jun 28, 2025 By: Sherell Jeffrey Text Size: Yong and Jeffrey. Kota Kinabalu: The final townhall hosted by Sabah Action Body Advocating Rights (Sabar) saw rival political parties sitting together and actually agreeing on something, that it is time to listen to what Sabahans really want. Among those present were Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) President cum Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan. He delivered perhaps the most stirring call for political unity, reflecting on his own experience of being arrested for advocating similar causes in the past. 'We are lucky that we have a body like Sabar. In those days when I started, when I tried to do this, I got arrested. So you are lucky, the situation has changed,' he said, congratulating the civil society organisation for creating space for citizen engagement. Subscribe or LOG IN to access this article. It will be a race for second place
Published on: Saturday, June 28, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jun 28, 2025 By: James Wong Text Size: I personally doubt it and hopefully they can prove me wrong. THE 2025-2026 Super League football season is scheduled to commence in August starting with the charity shield between JDT (Johor Darul Ta'zim) FC and Selangor FC on August 8. There are going to be only 13 teams taking part in the new season as Sri Pahang and Kedah Darul Aman opted out and will not be on the list. However, we do have Brunei making an entry to the league. I am just wondering if the teams in the new season will bring some excitement to the fans or will it be the same old routine just like every other year where JDT FC will be dominating the competition. By the look of it, I do not think other teams will pose a threat at all. Basically, the rest will only fight for the second and third positions to give them a chance to compete at the Asian level. TYT concerned over radical attitudes and intolerance
Published on: Saturday, June 28, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jun 28, 2025 Text Size: Musa stressed that the Ma'al Hijrah celebration should serve as a platform for reflection and a starting point towards a more holistic future, with Islamic values and principles as the foundation for comprehensive development. Kota Kinabalu: The development of a progressive and dynamic Madani Ummah (civil society) cannot rely solely on leadership but requires the commitment and responsibility of the entire community. Head of State Tun (Dr) Musa Aman stressed that the Ma'al Hijrah celebration should serve as a platform for reflection and a starting point towards a more holistic future, with Islamic values and principles as the foundation for comprehensive development. 'Muslims must embrace the spirit of Hijrah as a catalyst for transforming our mindset, work culture and life direction. 'Being progressive means advancing in knowledge, economics, technology and thought. 'Being dynamic requires us to be agile in facing the challenges of the times and adaptable to global changes. 'However, true progress cannot be achieved by merely imitating other civilisations. It must be built upon the Islamic spirit in all fields – education, leadership, economics and human development,' he said at the State-level Ma'al Hijrah 1447H celebration, Friday. Musa, who was accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, said change must begin from within before it can be extended to the family, community and nation, in order to raise a tech-savvy generation with strong morals and character. He also highlighted that one of the major challenges in building a Madani society is the presence of radical attitudes, intolerance and moral decline among the younger generation. 'Character education must be strengthened, religious outreach (dakwah) must be delivered with wisdom and the misuse of social media must be controlled to prevent it from becoming a tool for spreading hatred,' he added. Musa further emphasised that religious institutions, educational bodies and the mass media play a vital role in shaping the collective awareness of the Muslim community. 'Building a Madani Ummah that upholds values of justice, tolerance and mutual respect is a shared responsibility that must be shouldered by all, regardless of status,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
