‘He's going to help take our team to the next level' Coach Earley speaks on new hiring
Texas A&M baseball had a disappointing season. While they showed signs of brilliance, they ultimately lacked the swagger and consistency needed to make a postseason run. After failing to reach the SEC Tournament championship, A&M was left out of the NCAA Tournament. However, they decided to retain coach Michael Earley, with the understanding that changes would be made.
The first move was bringing in former Aggie All-American and Dallas Baptist assistant coach Cliff Pennington. This is a great first step for the A&M baseball program as they look to return to Omaha next season. Pennington is regarded as one of the best assistant coaches in the nation and excels in areas where the Aggies need greater attention to detail, base running and fielding.
Coach Earley is excited to have Pennington on his staff and spoke about what he brings to the program:
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Pennington and his beautiful family back to Bryan-College Station, I wanted to find the best infield and base running coach in the nation and after many talks with Cliff, it was evident he was the guy and a perfect fit into our culture. He is a top-notch baseball coach and that is proven by his work. His values, character and determination are off the charts. He's going to help take our team to the next level and I couldn't be more excited to work beside him."
While this is an elite move, more changes are still needed before fans will feel optimistic about the team heading into the 2026 season. Nevertheless, this is a strong step toward making the Aggies a contender once again.

Another Big Ten rival in pursuit of a Wisconsin class of 2026 commit
Blessed to receive an official offer from Michigan State University🟢⚪️ #GoGreen #alhamdulillah Michigan State extended an offer to Wisconsin class of 2026 commit, defensive lineman Djidjou Bah, on Friday. The Spartans join a growing list of programs in pursuit of the notable Wisconsin commit. Since pledging to the Badgers on June 1, the defensive lineman has picked up offers from Penn State, Colorado and now Michigan State. He also took an official visit to Missouri in late June. Bah initially chose Wisconsin over Indiana, Iowa and Northwestern. His list of suitors continues to grow as the summer weeks pass. 247Sports currently lists the Germantown, Tennessee, native as a three-star recruit. He's ranked as the No. 810 overall player in the class of 2026, the No. 92 defensive lineman and the No. 21 recruit from his home state. Neither 247Sports nor Rivals/On3 has registered any predictions for Bah to flip his commitment. However, his pledge to the Badgers is worth monitoring, with his offer sheet continuing to grow. Wisconsin's class of 2026 currently ranks No. 60 nationally with 14 players committed. After the group dropped significantly after defensive back Zachary Taylor flipped to TCU, the program would do well to avoid a repeat. Michigan State football center Matt Gulbin explains reason for transferring to MSU
It could be argued, and is probably true, that the biggest addition for Michigan State football this offseason was the addition of former Wake Forest offensive lineman Matt Gulbin. Gulbin was brought in to be the presumptive starting center, replacing Tanner Miller in that role, and on Thursday, he explained why he decided to come to MSU to finish his collegiate career. I was talking to a bunch of schools and I talked to Coach M and Coach Smith, and my old coach at Wake Forest knew Coach Smith from some sort of coaching clinic or something and he raved about him and everything he said, you know, has run true. And you know, I think I built a good connection with Coach M. You know, I visualize that this is a guy I want to play for... And also just the history of Michigan State is awesome... I've always been an admirer of this program and this university, so, it's really an honor to be a Spartan and to play for this program. Nebraska football tight end Mac Markway out for season with torn ACL
Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule gave a status update on tight end Mac Markway on Thursday. The coach officially confirmed that the tight end is out for a second season with a torn ACL. He came to Lincoln in 2024, but suffered a torn ACL injury before the start of the season. He entered the 2025 fall camp with a chance to work his way into the type end rotation. Now, it appears he has suffered another setback, as the ACL repair reportedly failed. He came to Lincoln by way of LSU, where he played limited action. He caught three passes for 16 yards in 2023. Rhule gave some information regarding the injury in his meeting with the media on Thursday. 'After the first practice, he came in and had some swelling in his knee, not until the next day,' he said. 'Unfortunately, the ACL repair failed for him. It's heartbreaking news. He's an unbelievable human. I felt terrible for him. It wasn't any one play, nothing that he even knows necessarily happened. Just some swelling. Got through the walk through that night, then came in the next morning. We got through day one, talked about him, we were really excited for what we knew he was about to do. I know the human he is and I'm excited for what he does next. I just wanted to make sure you guys heard that from me.' This is certainly unfortunate news for the program and the tight end position. Nebraska has the depth to withstand the injury, but this is the difficult part of preseason camp.
