News1821-05-2025
On This Day In 2017: Dominant Mumbai Indians pulled off a remarkable win in the summit clash of the 2017 Indian Premier League, becoming the first franchise to clinch the prestigious crown for the third time in the league's history on this day. On this day, the then Rohit Sharma-led side took a giant leap towards becoming one of the most successful T20 teams in the world as they defeated Rising Pune Supergiant in a memorable final by just one run.
Showing tremendous resilience and grit, the MI juggernaut overcame a precarious hole and turned the tables on the spirited Supergiant in Hyderabad. The Supergiant snatched victory from the jaws of defeat after failing to chase down an otherwise paltry 130-run target.

WTC points table 2025-27: India and England switch places after Oval Test

A determined and fiery performance by pacer Mohammed Siraj helped India clinch a thrilling six-run victory over England in the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval, London. This memorable win leveled the series at 2-2 and earned the Shubman Gill-led Indian team 12 vital points in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. India climbs to third on WTC points table Prior to the final Test, India was positioned fourth in the WTC standings but their dramatic win allowed them to leapfrog England, who slipped to fourth place after suffering their second loss in this cycle. Both teams share identical match results, two wins, one loss, and one draw, but England was penalized two points due to a slow over rate during the Lord's Test, which has impacted their overall standing. Australia continues to dominate the WTC leaderboard, buoyed by their recent commanding performance in the Caribbean, where they completed a clean sweep of West Indies 3-0 in a three-Test series. This unbeaten run keeps them firmly atop the table. Other teams' positions in the WTC standings Sri Lanka is holding the third spot with an impressive PCT of 66.67%, followed by Bangladesh in fifth place. West Indies find themselves sixth, with zero points from three Tests played. Meanwhile, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa are yet to participate in any WTC matches this cycle. Although South Africa recently defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 in a Test series, those matches do not contribute to the current WTC standings as Zimbabwe is not a part of this cycle.

WTC Points Table 2025-27: India jump to third after historic Oval Test win; England slip to fourth; Australia on top

ICC World Test Championship 2025-2027 Standings: A spirited effort by pacer Mohammed Siraj led India to a historic six-run win over England in the fifth and the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the Oval in London on Monday as India levelled the series 2-2. The win also gave Shubman Gill-led India 12 crucial points as they moved to third place in the World Test Championship (2025-27 cycle) points table after the end of the series. India, who were fourth ahead of the Oval Test, exchanged places with England, who have dropped to fourth after being condemned to their second loss in this cycle. Both India and England have won two matches, lost one and drawn one to gain equal points, but the ICC had docked two points from England due to their slow over rate at the Lord's Test. India have 28 points from five Tests and a PCT of 46.67, while England are left with 26 points and a 43.33 PCT. Australia continue to lead the standings after a dominant show during their recent tour to the Caribbean Islands, where they whitewashed West Indies 3-0 in the three-match Test series to have an unblemished record in this cycle. Sri Lanka are third with 66.67 PCT and Bangladesh are fifth, while the West Indies find themselves in sixth place with 0 points from three Tests. New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa are yet to play any matches in this WTC cycle. Defending World Test Champion South Africa beat Zimbabwe 2-0 in the recently concluded Test match series, but since Zimbabwe is not part of the current WTC cycle, the series was not counted in for the standings.
