The Korean powerhouses now sit top of the Club Championship standings with 1,800 points, following a historic run that has seen them go unbeaten in 26 consecutive matches, one of the most commanding streaks in the history of competitive League of Legends.
The title win in Riyadh follows closely on the heels of their victory at the Mid-Season Invitational, making this the fastest back-to-back international title haul ever recorded in the game.
Their flawless campaign at the Esports World Cup culminated in a thrilling five-game final against AG.AL, who had earlier stunned both Hanwha Life Esports and reigning champions T1.
'It's a very meaningful win for our team,' said Kim "Kiin" Ki-in, who was later named tournament MVP and awarded a $10,000 prize.
'In the past in international events we feel that we have underperformed, so to achieve back-to-back wins in the Mid-Season Invitational and now here at the Esports World Cup means that we are still a top contender level team. We are right at the top.
'And on a personal level, the wins let me know that I'm still the player I know I can be and that we can continue to lift many trophies together.'
Teammate Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon praised the atmosphere in the Riyadh Arena for playing a key role in their final push.
'The atmosphere in the arena was amazing, you could really feel it and I think that support was what drove us to go on and win in the end,' he said.
'The overall support of the fans throughout the tournament was incredible, they were electric and energetic, and they continue to drive us to lift more trophies again as soon as we can compete again,' he added.
The Gen.G lineup of Joo "Duro" Min-kyu, Jeong, Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu, Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk, and Kim outclassed 11 other top-tier teams to secure the $600,000 winners' prize and an additional 1,000 Club Championship points.
Arnold Hur, CEO of Gen.G Esports, hailed the team's consistency and hunger for improvement.
'For us, the important thing is to keep on improving and delivering positive performances and results each year compared to the previous one, and that's what we're doing in this year's edition so far,' he said. 'Everyone is working to help the club reach new heights and to keep rising.'
Reflecting on his MVP performance, Kiin added: 'We were here last year, but we got eliminated early, so this time I wanted to lift the trophy, and I did. I'm really excited.'

Review: A luxurious Riyadh staycation at the Mansard Hotel

RIYADH: The Mansard Hotel in Riyadh has established itself as a top choice among those looking for a luxury staycation in the Kingdom's capital. This exquisite establishment offers a plethora of facilities, including a top-tier restaurant and a renowned spa by L'Occitane that promises a rejuvenating experience catering to both relaxation and indulgence. For the latest updates, follow us on Instagram @ The Mansard is a Radisson Collection Hotel and was recently nominated for the Favorite Luxury Hotel in Riyadh award by What's On Saudi Arabia. The hotel marries classic European architecture with the warmth of Arabian hospitality, and its location in the heart of the city — in the vibrant Hittin neighborhood — ensures convenient access to key destinations including King Khalid International Airport and the King Abdullah Financial District. A post shared by Mansard Riyadh (@radissoncollectionmansard) In Hittin, guests can explore an array of trendy shops and cafés, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in local culture. However, you could also simply remain in the hotel; it really does have everything you need — the inviting outdoor spaces and stunning European architecture created a serene atmosphere that enhanced our experience — including some great dining options. We began our culinary journey at L'Ami Dave, billed as 'a contemporary homage to the legendary restaurants of Paris.' The grand interior features high ceilings and lush textures that give the place an elegant old-world atmosphere. We indulged in escargots de Bourgogne, a classic French dish of snails prepared in garlic-herb butter, which was delightful. The green salad of baby romaine lettuce, fine herbs, and Dijon vinaigrette complemented the dish perfectly. The quiche Lorraine, filled with spinach, shallots, and bacon, was another standout, paired beautifully with a petite spinach salad. We also dined at Carbone — an Italian-American restaurant known for its vibrant atmosphere. We tried the octopus pizzaiolo, which was flavorful and well-prepared. The New York strip was also well executed, though the carpaccio could have benefited from additional arugula. A post shared by Mansard Riyadh (@radissoncollectionmansard) Unfortunately, the Dover sole fish was a disappointment, lacking the seasoning and flavor that one would expect from a fine-dining establishment. And despite its reputation, the most famous pasta dish was mediocre, with a presentation that left much to be desired. On a positive note, Carbone's Wagyu NY strip was satisfying, and we enjoyed a refreshing lemon cheesecake for dessert — a perfect way to conclude our meal. Breakfast the following morning at Sadelle's was another success. I savored the avocado Benedict on sourdough, as well as the fluffy Belgian waffles, all of which was delicious and set a positive tone for the day. A post shared by Mansard Riyadh (@radissoncollectionmansard) No stay at Mansard would be complete without a visit to the Spa by L'Occitane. It features a massive heated pool, where we enjoyed a refreshing dip, followed by the jacuzzi, which proved a perfect way to unwind. We were particularly enamored with the salt room, designed to 'cleanse negative energy.' I also treated myself to a Moroccan bath, a deeply relaxing experience. The Mansard offers a luxurious escape that combines modern amenities with traditional charm. From the exceptional dining experiences to the relaxing spa treatments, every aspect of the stay was designed for our comfort and indulgence. I left feeling refreshed and keen to return, convinced that this hotel really does provide a perfect staycation. If you're searching for a place to unwind and enjoy the best that Riyadh has to offer, look no further.

Upcoming Riyadh Season to feature more Saudi and Gulf content, says GEA chairman

RIYADH: Plenty of global attractions are being planned for the upcoming Riyadh Season, with the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) promising that events will be rich in Saudi, Gulf and Syrian content. GEA Chairman Turki Alalshikh on Wednesday said the Season will feature for the first time the Riyadh Comedy Festival, which will take place at Boulevard City in Riyadh from September 26 to October 9. The event will feature over 50 of the world's most renowned comedians, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). Following the major success of last year's season, Riyadh is currently experiencing an unprecedented entertainment movement, such as hosting the Esports World Cup — the largest esports tournament in the world — with a prize pool exceeding $70 million and drawing significant global attention. Alalshikh said the season's activities will continue to accelerate week after week. Among the global events being lined up are music concerts, football matches, boxing bouts, UFC fights, and a WWE showcase, the GEA chief said. Wrestling fans can look forward to the 'Royal Rumble' taking place in January, the SPA quoted him as saying. Alalshikh added that more surprises will be announced soon, including events in collaboration with global YouTube star MrBeast and the "Six Kings Slam" tennis tournament, which will bring together the world's top six players to compete for the largest prize in the sport's history — following the major success of last year's edition. Riyadh Season is an annual entertainment festival held in the Kingdom's capital, a major initiative aimed to boost tourism and diversify the Saudi economy, as part of the country's Vision 2030 initiative.

Emmy Award-winning director praises ‘mind-blowing' esports growth in MENA region

RIYADH: Emmy Award-winning director R.J. Cutler is no stranger to esports. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport As part of the inaugural Esports World Cup in Riyadh in 2024, the American filmmaker showcased the competition's athletes and their stories in the five-part documentary 'Esports World Cup: Level Up,' streaming on Prime Video. Cutler's series delves deep into the lives of these elite players, revealing the dedication, skill and passion that drive them, offering a platform to connect with a global audience. During his visit to Riyadh, Cutler discussed the significance of the Esports World Cup. 'The Esports World Cup is incredibly impactful because esports is still new and emerging on the global stage,' Cutler said. 'To see the way Saudi Arabia and the Saudi people have gathered around the Esports World Cup is amazing, to see the infrastructure that's been built is extraordinary, and everything around it is mind-blowing.' By highlighting the human stories and showcasing Esports World Cup Foundation's significant investment in the gaming and esports industry, Cutler believes the series is able to reach new audiences and showcase how the Esports World Cup is changing people's lives. 'One of the things we hoped to do, and we were successful in doing, was making the show accessible to everybody whether you were a fan of esports, or not. 'It's a human sport and that's what we wanted to show (the audience), we wanted to reflect exactly what we experienced ourselves first-hand in Riyadh.' Growing from a niche sport to a global phenomenon, the Esports World Cup had elevated the esports and gaming industry, added prestige, provided a global platform for teams and players to thrive, while fostering a community of passionate fans from across the world. 'The cliche of what a gamer is, is totally defined by the Esports World Cup, it's as broad a sport as any sport there is and with every single player you have a different extraordinary story, that's what we see in Level Up,' Cutler said. 'Humanizing the esports industry was our whole objective, we tell human stories and we're making real films. We want the audience to connect with other people and to project themselves into the scenario so that anybody playing games at home can think that 'I could be there, that could be me.' 'The series showcases a full range of human stories, it's character-driven, it's emotional, it's dramatic; we want you to laugh, cry and stomp your feet and in season one that was definitely happening.' The Esports World Cup is a key pillar of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 initiative, and a significant part of the Kingdom's national gaming and esports strategy, which aims to foster talent development, establish a world-class gaming and esports ecosystem, and support economic diversification. The goal is to create 39,000 jobs and contribute $13.3 billion to Saudi Arabia's economy by 2030. The inaugural Esports World Cup was a watershed moment, as the world's best players converged in Riyadh to compete across the most popular games and win their share of a record-breaking prize pool, but in 2025 things are bigger, better and bolder. Competing for a $70-plus million prize pool, the largest in esports history, more than 2,000 players, from 200 clubs, representing more than 100 countries, have returned for the Esports World Cup 2025, competing across 25 tournaments and 24 games including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, League of Legends, EA FC 25, Rocket League, and PUBG Battlegrounds. The event runs until Aug. 24, and is held alongside the Esports World Cup Festival, a celebration of esports and gaming culture that features interactive experiences, live performances, competitions and global cuisine, facilitating cultural exchange and showcasing Saudi Arabia's cultural heritage to global visitors. For 2025, the prize pool has grown, ticket sales and visitor numbers have swelled, and its global appeal has increased exponentially, bolstered by the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo as the global ambassador and a live performance from Post Malone at the opening ceremony. 'There was a $60 million prize pool last year, more than $70 million this year, this incredible infrastructure has sprouted up around it, the passion of the audiences and those following all of the teams is amazing,' Cutler said. 'The Esports World Cup is something that you really have to experience to believe it.'
