Russia pounds Kyiv with largest drone attack, hours after Trump-Putin call
KYIV: Russia pummelled Kyiv with the largest drone attack of the war, killing one person, injuring at least 23 and damaging buildings across the capital hours after US President Trump spoke to Russia's Vladimir Putin, officials said on Friday. Air raid sirens, the whine of kamikaze drones and booming detonations reverberated from early evening until dawn as Russia launched what Ukraine's Air Force said was a total of 539 drones and 11 missiles. Families huddled in underground metro stations for shelter and acrid smoke hung over the city centre. Kyiv's military administration chief said on Friday afternoon a body had been found in the wreckage of one of the strike sites. Outside a high-rise apartment block damaged by a drone, residents stood around surveying the scene as the clean-up job began. Some cried. Others looked on silently. "I woke up to the sound of explosions, first the Shahed drones started buzzing, and then the explosions began," said 40-year-old resident Maria Hilchenko. "Then people started screaming outside. The explosions from the Shaheds kept coming." Shahed drones are an Iranian design, a variant of which is now manufactured in Russia. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Let boAt bring the cinema home Boat Buy Now Undo President Zelensky called the attack "deliberately massive and cynical", noting the first sirens blared as news came in of Putin and Trump's call. Later on Friday Zelensky spoke to Trump and the pair agreed to work on increasing Kyiv's capability to "defend the sky". He added they discussed joint defence production, as well as joint purchases and investments. The US has paused some deliveries of missiles amid concerns about low stockpiles. US outlet Axios reported, citing unnamed sources, that the call lasted around 40 min, and that Trump told Zelensky he would check what US weapons due to be sent to Ukraine, if any, had been put on hold. Kyiv officials said the attack damaged about 40 apartment blocks, passenger railway infrastructure, five schools and kindergartens, cafes and many cars in six of Kyiv's 10 districts. Poland said the consular section of its embassy was damaged in central Kyiv, adding that staff were unharmed. Ukrainian foreign minister Andrii Sybiha said a Chinese component had been found in one of the Shahed drones attacking Kyiv. Russian airstrikes on Kyiv have intensified in recent weeks. Russia's defence ministry said drone factories, a military airfield and an oil refinery were among targets it struck in Kyiv with what it called high-precision weapons. Ukraine did not give details. Trump said that the call with Putin on Thursday resulted in no progress at all on efforts to end the war, and the Kremlin reiterated that Moscow would keep pushing to solve the conflict's "root causes". The decision by Washington to halt some shipments of critical weapons to Ukraine prompted warnings by Kyiv that the move would weaken its ability to defend against intensifying airstrikes. Germany said it is in talks on buying Patriot air defence systems to bridge the gap. (This is a Reuters story)

Take them back, women's panel chief tells kin of Noida old age home's inmates
Noida: The state women's commission president has asked relatives of inmates at Anand Niketan Vridh Seva Ashram in Sector 55 to take the elderly residents back home after they were found living in deplorable conditions. The old age home came under the scanner of authorities last week after a video that surfaced on social media showed an elderly inmate with her hands tied. "Children who have left their parents at the old age home despite having their own houses and families will have to take their parents back and take care of them," said Babita Chauhan, president of the state women's commission, after an inspection on Friday. After the video surfaced last week, commission member Meenakshi Bharala conducted a surprise inspection of the facility and found elderly inmates living in unsanitary conditions and facing mistreatment from staff. Notably, no doctor or qualified medical professional was available on call, despite several inmates suffering from physical and mental ailments. That children will enjoy their life and leave their parents in such deplorable conditions is not acceptable. This is a shameful act," Chauhan said. A day after the inspection last week, immediate relatives of most of Anand Niketan's 40 inmates turned up at the facility and signed forms to give consent that their parents could continue living there. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo There was no display of anger about living standards at the home and how the health of inmates was being neglected. Three elderly inmates of Anand Niketan were shifted to a govt facility in Dankaur. But this alternative arrangement raised fresh concerns as well. Of the three, only one stayed back. One was taken back to Anand Niketan by their niece, while the woman seen in the video with her hands tied was taken home by her Noida-based family. The city magistrate, who had inspected facilities at Anand Niketan last Sunday, had submitted a report to district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma, confirming that conditions at the old age home were indeed unsatisfactory. This prompted the DM to promise action against authorities at the home. "This is a very sensitive matter. Any action will be taken based on a proper investigation," Chauhan said. DM Verma, however, said that the state govt would take the final call on the fate of Anand Niketan. "There are several elderly inmates whose children stay abroad. So, there is no one to take care of them, forcing them to live at the old age home. We have sent a detailed report to the state govt. Whatever they decide will be followed," he added. BR Arora, the old age home's managing trustee, said the children were welcome to take their parents with them. "We've already informed the families of the elderly residents that if anyone wants to take them back, they're free to do so. We held a meeting with them a few days ago, when they gave a written consent to keep their parents here. I have been managing this facility since 1996 and have never received any such complaint. This is the first time that such allegations are being levelled," he added.

Tyreek Hill accused of using intimidation tactics in messy divorce battle with estranged wife Keeta Vaccaro
Tyreek Hill dragged into controversy as Keeta Vaccaro accuses him of manipulation during ugly divorce (Getty Images) The divorce between Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill and Keeta Vaccaro has turned into a bitter courtroom feud that's now being publicly aired in documents and legal filings, with accusations flying from both sides. What began as a private split is rapidly becoming a high-profile legal spectacle, revealing not only strained personal dynamics but also an increasingly contentious battle over control, reputation, and custody. Keeta Vaccaro calls out Tyreek Hill 's alleged 'silencing tactics' in explosive twist to divorce proceedings Vaccaro's legal team is pushing back hard against Hill's recent motion for a gag order, labeling it a veiled attempt to silence her in court. The motion, originally filed by Hill's lawyers on June 23, requested a Miami judge to bar Vaccaro from making statements in legal documents that could harm Hill's public image. But Vaccaro's attorneys argue that the move reeks of intimidation and hypocrisy. 'In terms of purpose, the Husband's motion is a clear attempt to silence and intimidate wife's counsel and control the representation that she receives in this litigation,' they stated in the response, which was first obtained by Daily Mail. They also pointed out, 'He wants to silence the wife's lawyers while his own pleadings disparage and denigrate the wife. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo ' Tyreek Hill & Keeta Vaccaro Divorce: Toxic Breakups | Humble Baddies The irony of Hill's complaint wasn't lost on Vaccaro's lawyers, who referenced what they called 'The Goose-Gander Rule,' pointing to what they see as double standards. They argue that while Hill wants to censor Vaccaro's legal commentary, he himself has made damaging allegations. In one such filing, Hill accused Vaccaro of stealing from him and fraudulently accessing his financial accounts to benefit herself and her mother. 'Three days before he filed his motion to enjoin, he filed a pleading in which he alleged… that the wife 'has a history of stealing,'' her lawyers noted, citing a headline that subsequently ran in media reports. Hill's attorneys, Michael Gottlieb and Christi Bright, claim the gag order is necessary to prevent further reputational damage, suggesting that the NFL player is a public figure under greater scrutiny. Vaccaro's response firmly counters that argument, claiming Hill simply doesn't want to 'look bad.' Beyond the battle over speech, the divorce has sparked disputes over finances and custody. Vaccaro, who shares an 8-month-old daughter named Capri with Hill, alleged that he has failed to pay temporary spousal or child support. She also accused him of withholding access to their shared home and a vehicle, denying her financial stability in the process. 'The motion is another example of the Husband's pattern of coercive control,' the response claimed. Tensions escalated further following a domestic dispute at the couple's Miami apartment in April — the same month Vaccaro filed for divorce, citing the marriage as 'irretrievably broken.' Police reports revealed that Hill had thrown a laptop and walked toward a balcony with their daughter. Though no arrests were made, officers noticed a bruise on Vaccaro's chest. In an emergency filing, Vaccaro claimed Hill disappeared for two nights following the incident and later took their daughter without her consent. She is now seeking exclusive use of the home and supervised visitation for Hill. The couple had married in November 2023 during the Dolphins' bye week, after being engaged for over two years. This unraveling, however, has exposed a much deeper breakdown than what the public had previously known, with both sides now prepared for a long legal confrontation.
