Channel 4 series slapped with 'sex ban' - despite being all about sex

Metro16-06-2025
Virgin Island sparked controversy last month, but bosses reportedly made a great move for the sake of its contestants.
Last month, the divisive Channel 4 reality show saw 12 adult virgins guided by seven experts to help explore their intimacy issues, with viewers split over how to feel.
Some people found it all a bit cringeworthy, while others were concerned about the care of vulnerable people appearing on the series.
Now, it's been reported that show bosses placed a sex ban on the crew, including experts and therapists Danielle Harel, Celeste Hirschman.
Given the intimate nature of the show, it was apparently decided that the ban would be appropriate to make sure everyone was comfortable.
'Location shoots like this are usually a hotbed for hook-ups. But Virgin Island was no fun for anyone except the virgins,' a source told The Sun.
The insider told the outlet that 'production wanted to make them feel comfortable and unintimidated'.
They added: 'This sort of crew sex ban is unheard of in the TV world, but is very responsible of Channel 4.'
Last month, the first series reached its climax after breaking records for the broadcaster, who noted the show rose 'to the top of Channel 4's list of new unscripted launches for share of 16-34s since modern records began'.
Virgin Island's figures placed it above the likes of Supernanny, The Jury: Murder Trial and the original series of Married At First Sight, while almost nine million people tuned in across the run.
It's not surprising, then, that Channel 4 want to go another round, with a second season already in the pipeline.

The broadcaster's measures to make everyone comfortable appears to have worked, as series one participant Dave insisted they all felt 'so safe and secure' on set.
In a statement encouraging people to apply for the next series, he said:
Series one participant, Dave, said of his experience: 'Anyone who has watched the show will have seen how much my confidence grew over the course of the series, and I can't speak highly enough of the experts and production team for making us feel so safe and secure.'
He added: 'I was lucky enough to achieve the ultimate aim of the series whilst on the Island, and I can't wait to see the next group of participants go on the same journey – I would wholly encourage anyone with enough courage and resilience to apply, it's completely changed my life.'
Applications for season 2 are open now, with Channel 4 and Double Act Productions putting some strict restrictions in place for anyone looking to get involved.
'It's been such a thrill to watch this show catch fire,' said Virgin Island Commissioning Editor, Jonah Weston. 'From the brave cast to our wonderful experts I don't think I've ever worked on anything quite so bold, warm and well-intentioned.'
As well as needing to have seen the first season, virgins hoping to take part will face a series of Zoom interviews, and some 'one-to-one meetings' in London over the summer. More Trending
The application form explains: 'If invited to take part in the retreat, you may be required for a day's interview filming in the UK around September 2025.
'You must then be available to film at the retreat for approx. three weeks abroad in autumn 2025. You are responsible for getting the permitted time off work or study, if relevant.'

The celebrity guest list at Ozzy Osbourne's homecoming funeral is revealed as Elton John leads A-listers set to offer condolences

Celebrities and fans will pay their final respects to Ozzy Osbourne on Wednesday as the rock icon returns to his home city for a procession ahead of his private funeral. The Black Sabbath frontman died last Tuesday at the age of 76 - just weeks after performing his final show with the band. Fans will be able to pay their final respects to Ozzy as his body is brought back to his home city for a procession. The star's hearse will make its way through Birmingham, travelling alongside his family to Broad Street from 1pm, the city council announced on Tuesday. Now the stars who will be paying their respects to the Prince of Darkness has been revealed, with Elton John leading the A-listers. A source told The Sun: 'His Sabbath bandmates, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler, will be there, along with James Hetfield from Metallica. 'Elton John is also hoping to join the family at the church. 'Sharon and his family have been so touched by messages they received not only from Ozzy's friends, but also his fans around the world.' Birmingham Lord Mayor Zafar Iqbal said the city where Osbourne grew up will give him the 'farewell he deserves'. He said: 'Ozzy was more than a music legend - he was a son of Birmingham. 'Having recently been awarded the Freedom of the City and following his celebrated appearance at the Back to the Beginning concert at Villa Park earlier this month, it was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral. We know how much this moment will mean to his fans. 'We're proud to host it here with his loving family in the place where it all began, and we are grateful that they have generously offered to pay to enable this to happen and support the city is giving him the farewell he deserves.' The city council said it had worked 'at pace' to co-ordinate a respectful and safe public event in co-ordination with the Osbourne family ahead of a private funeral. Broad Street will be closed to traffic from 7am and buses and trams will be diverted. Ozzy previously revealed he didn't want his funeral to be a sad occasion but a time to say 'thanks'. 'There'll be no harping on the bad times,' he told The Times back in 2011. 'It's worth remembering that a lot of people see nothing but misery their whole lives, so by any measure, most of us in this country — especially rock stars like me — are very lucky. 'That's why I don't want my funeral to be sad, I want it to be a time to say ''thanks''.' Ozzy insisted he wanted it to be a celebration rather than a 'mope-fest' and that he didn't care what music was played as long as it made his loved ones happy. 'I honestly don't care what they play at my funeral; they can put on a medley of Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle and We Are the Diddymen if it makes 'em happy,' he quipped. However, in another interview a few years later, Ozzy narrowed down his song choice to A Day In The Life by The Beatles. Ozzy has previously credited The Beatles for inspiring him to become a musician himself, revealing he became an avid fan after hearing their 1964 hit She Loves You. When asked about his funeral song, Ozzy insisted he would want a Beatles number being played rather than any of his own music on the day. 'I really need a few more years to think this over, but probably something from 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band or Revolver,' he told NME in 2016. 'I definitely don't want my f**king greatest hits album - I never ever play that thing, I'm f**king embarrassed about it. And I definitely don't want a f**king happy song - I'm dead.' Ozzy's hearse will be accompanied by musicians Bostin' Brass and will stop at the Black Sabbath bridge and bench, where thousands of fans have been gathering since the heavy metal icon died last week aged 76 to leave flowers and tributes. The funeral is expected to draw huge crowds as fans gather to say goodbye to the pioneer of heavy metal, giving his family an opportunity to see the memories and tributes left by those who loved him. The rock star died last Tuesday morning with his family confirming the news in a statement. 'It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,' they shared. 'He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.' He is survived by his wife Sharon and his six children. He shares three kids - Aimee, 41, Kelly, 41, and Jack, 40, with Sharon. Ozzy also welcomed two children - Jessica and Louis - from his first marriage to Thelma Riley, while he also adopted her son Elliot from her previous relationship. The musician had undergone seven surgeries in the past five years, including a fourth spinal operation in 2023, and had been battling Parkinson's disease since 2003.

Bonnie Blue's estranged husband breaks his silence as he appears in Channel 4 show

Bonnie Blue is currently in the process of divorcing her childhood sweetheart, but is still on good terms with her estranged husband - with him even appearing on her new Channel 4 show Bonnie Blue 's estranged husband makes a brief appearance in the controversial documentary about his soon-to-be ex-wife. Oliver Davidson, the adult content creator's childhood sweetheart, insists he is proud of his former partner and it's even revealed he was the one that encouraged her to pursue a career in sex work. ‌ The 25-year-old OnlyFans model, whose real name is Tia Billinger, achieved viral fame in 2024 after claiming that she had slept with more than 1,000 men in 12 hours. ‌ Her methods of inviting non-professionals to create adult content with her for free sparked controversy, with critics accusing her of predatory behaviour towards young men and perpetuating misogynistic ideology. ‌ The Channel 4 documentary 1,000 Men and Me: The Bonnie Blue Story, which premiered this evening, follows the sex worker ahead of her most famous stunt. In the divisive programme, we hear from Bonnie's ex Oliver for the first time - and how he inspired her career. "I met Ollie when I was like 14, 15," Bonnie explains in the show. "We got married really young. Pretty, quite intimate wedding, nothing crazy, nothing over the top. Then we relocated to Australia shortly afterwards. ‌ "Ollie was beyond supportive, he gave me the confidence to do OnlyFans. And it wasn't because he wanted to pimp me out, he just wanted me to be happy and have control of my life. And obviously the money was good as well." Oliver himself gushes about Bonnie's sex stunts with the public and says he's proud of her. "She really connects with the fans," he muses. "Most people, if they do porn, they seem out of reach. You're never going to meet them. ‌ "You're never going to be able to film with them. Whereas Bonnie puts a location online, and then obviously her fans can actually film with her. It's like a defining moment in porn, where she's completely changed the game." In a new interview today, Bonnie shared exactly why things didn't work between her and Oliver. She told the Daily Mail that they broke up some time before she moved back to the UK from Australia in 2024, and that Ollie returned before her. ‌ "We loved each other, but we weren't in love. So we separated, but we didn't make it official," she said. "Me doing what I've done recently had nothing to do with the relationship breakdown. But, of course, no one will believe me." The documentary about Bonnie sparked controversy when its commission was announced in May. Tim Hancock, commissioning editor for Channel 4, said at the time: 'With incredible access to an unfolding story at the edges of modern morality, this documentary will take a clear-eyed look at a very contemporary phenomenon and will likely leave the audience questioning their own presumptions about one of this year's most polarising figures.' The Magnificent Pictures documentary is directed by Victoria Silver, who added: "Bonnie Blue refuses to conform to public opinion and lives life by her own rules. "At a time when factual TV is awash with retrospective stories, I wanted to capture the energy of a live and evolving story, with a woman at the heart of it who's living her life in such a bold way." Executive producer Mark Henderson said: "Bonnie Blue is a story for our times, touching on our attitudes to sex, money, success, porn, feminism and masculinity. Vic's insightful film will make you question what you think about this fascinating and divisive character.."
