Teachers to be posted in Eng medium schools ‘within a wk'

aipur: In a meeting with govt school teachers held Sunday, officials said allotment of English-medium schools in every district for teachers will be completed within one week.
After recruitment in Aug last year, selected candidates have been waiting for postings in English-medium schools.
Teachers, under the banner of Rajasthan Shikshak Sangh (Rashtriya), held talks with the education secretary and the director of secondary education regarding 25 points. In the meeting, consensus was reached on many demands, including giving posting to teachers in Mahatma Gandhi English Medium Govt schools within a week and Vivekananda Model Schools this month.
Along with this, officials agreed to work on removing salary discrepancies, reducing the burden of non-educational work of teachers, and holding district-level educational conferences in Sept and state-level educational conferences in Nov.
Ramesh Chandra Pushkarna, president of the organisation, said, "In the meeting, many demands were put forward, including starting Balvatika in 19,500 schools and keeping a minimum of 5 posts of Grade-II category teachers intact, including Hindi, English, and Social Science, in the new staffing pattern for secondary education.
Along with this, discussions were held on filling 15,000 out of 38,000 new posts as per the staffing pattern in this session itself.

On the transfer of teachers, education secretary Krishna Kunal said it will be started as soon as the chief minister gives permission.
In the meeting teachers also raised the issue of difficulty in mandatory Aadhaar and Jan Adhaar verification for generating APAAR IDs of students along with other schemes in rural areas. An agreement was reached on organizing time-bound camps at the district level to resolve such problems.

Daniel Martindale spent two years in Ukraine following the start of Russia's invasion, passing along the coordinates of military sites to Russian intelligence services, as per Russia's state media. "By decree of our President Vladimir Putin, a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation was awarded to Daniel Martindale," said Denis Pushilin the head of the Russian-occupied Donetsk region in Ukraine, reported AP. Martindale received his passport at a ceremony in Moscow by the interior ministry officials, as per a video published by Pushilin and the state media. Martindale had "long since proven with his loyalty and actions that he is one of us,' said Pushilin. "He spent more than two years in the territory under enemy control. And not only did he survive -- he helped. He supported our guys, passed on important information to our special services, risked his life," he added. Martindale said that becoming a Russian citizen was a 'dream' for him and thanked Russia for 'accepting' him. "Russia is not only my home, but my family," he said in Russian. After two years of spying on Ukraine, Daniel Martindale was pulled out in what Pushilin described as "a complex evacuation operation," prompted by growing concerns in Moscow that his life would be at risk if he remained in the country. Russian state media reported that security forces brought Martindale to Russia in November 2024, where he subsequently submitted for his citizenship. "Hello, I'm Daniel Martindale, the guy that Russian soldiers risked their lives to evacuate from the village where I had lived for two years." a telegram account that claimed to be Martindale posted the same month. During that time, Martindale informed pro-Russian bloggers that he arrived in Ukraine shortly before Russia launched its offensive, in hopes of reaching the region of Donetsk. Martindale told bloggers that he reached out to Russian intelligence services on his own initiative and was instructed to travel to the city of Vuhledar and wait for Russian forces to arrive. He said he stayed in the city, posing as a missionary, until the fall of 2024, when Russian troops captured it following a prolonged battle, as reported by CBS news. Martindale was raised on farms in upstate New York and Indiana by missionary parents who later relocated to rural China. During his time there a short visit across the border into Russia's far east sparked his interest in the country, as per a Wall Street Journal report. In 2018, he moved to Vladivostok where he studied Russian and taught English but was deported from the country a year later for violating labour laws.

DU admissions: record 2.39 lakh applications received in Phase II
NEW DELHI Delhi University (DU) has received a record 2.39 lakh completed applicationsin the second phase of its undergraduate admissions for the 2025-26 academic session, according to the data released by the varsity on Tuesday. The university received applications for 71,642 seats across 79 programmes in 69 colleges and departments. DU Registrar Vikas Gupta said that 1.27 lakh female candidates (53.06%), 1.12 lakh males (49.63%), and three transgender candidates submitted their applications in the second phase, which closed at midnight on Monday. While a total of 3.05 lakh candidates signed up, 2.39 lakh, the highest ever, completed the process. Officials attributed this gap to 'multiple reasons such as personal preferences'. In the second phase, candidates submitted their preferred combinations of courses and colleges. Shri Ram College of Commerce emerged as the top choice with 38,795 candidates listing it as their first preference. It was followed by Hindu College (31,901), Hansraj College (15,902), St. Stephen's College (12,413), and Miranda House (11,403). (Honours) was the most popular programme with 48,336 students preferring it, followed by BA (Honours) Political Science (15,295), and (Honours) Zoology (12,722), and (8,939), the university data showed. Candidates could choose multiple course-college combinations, resulting in 1.68 crore total preferences submitted. Apart from (Honours) and other frequently listed programmes included BA (Honours) in English, Political Science, and History. Simulated ranks On Tuesday, DU released simulated ranks on candidates' dashboards, allowing them to reorder, add, or delete their preferences until July 16. 'Simulated ranks are purely tentative and based on the scores and preferences submitted by the candidates at the end of Phase II,' the university said in a statement. These ranks are not final and should not be interpreted as a guarantee, it added. A majority of applicants, 58.89%, opted for humanities-related programmes. Commerce and science streams drew 20.89% and 20.22% of applicants respectively. As in previous years, DU has reserved supernumerary seats under special quotas. A total of 512 students applied under the orphan quota, while 7,243 applied under the single girl child quota. Trials for the extra-curricular activities quota will begin on July 18, followed by the sports quota trials starting on July 25. The first merit list will be declared on July 19.

‘80 killed in fake encounters', claim Naxals, admitting loss of 357 cadres
Raipur: The banned CPI (Maoists) has admitted in a statement that 357 of its cadres, including 136 women, have been killed across India in the past year. The statement issued by the party's top central committee marks one of the largest single-year losses in recent history for the insurgent group. The development comes ahead of Maoists' annual "Martyrs' Week" to be observed from July 28 to Aug 3. The statement, released in the form of a 24-page booklet in English and Gondi languages, outlines the deaths as "martyrdoms" and claims the majority 281 deaths occurred in the Dandakaranya region, which includes parts of south Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Odisha. "Among those killed are four members of the Maoist Central Committee and fifteen from various State Committees which is a heavy blow to the group's leadership ranks," the statement said. The group attributes these losses to 'Kagaar', a term it uses to describe the intensified counter-insurgency offensive being conducted jointly by central and state governments, particularly by security forces operating in the Red Corridor. Maoists claimed that 80 of the deceased were killed in "fake encounters", while 269 were killed in "encirclement attacks". The booklet repeatedly urges members to reject surrender and rehabilitation policies of the state and to continue resisting what it describes as "Brahmanical Hindutva fascism" and "imperialist proxy wars." They named the prominent cadres they lost over the past year including Basavaraju (Nambala Kesava Rao), 71, the party's General Secretary and a veteran of 51 years in the movement, killed in an encounter in Bastar on May 21, Vivek (Prayag Manjhi), 66, a Central Committee member from Jharkhand, killed in Bokaro, Chalapathy (Ramachandra Reddy), 62, a senior strategist, killed in Gariaband in Chhattisgarh, Uday, 56, and Sharma, 96, a long-time ideologue from Punjab, who died of illness and Neethi, Rupesh, Chaite, and Karthik — all senior leaders from Dandakaranya and Odisha zones — were also listed among the deceased.
