‘80 killed in fake encounters', claim Naxals, admitting loss of 357 cadres
The development comes ahead of Maoists' annual "Martyrs' Week" to be observed from July 28 to Aug 3. The statement, released in the form of a 24-page booklet in English and Gondi languages, outlines the deaths as "martyrdoms" and claims the majority 281 deaths occurred in the Dandakaranya region, which includes parts of south Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Odisha.
"Among those killed are four members of the Maoist Central Committee and fifteen from various State Committees which is a heavy blow to the group's leadership ranks," the statement said.
The group attributes these losses to 'Kagaar', a term it uses to describe the intensified counter-insurgency offensive being conducted jointly by central and state governments, particularly by security forces operating in the Red Corridor.
Maoists claimed that 80 of the deceased were killed in "fake encounters", while 269 were killed in "encirclement attacks". Notably, 31 civilians were also included in the death toll, according to the group's internal records.

Real Issue Is How Many Maoists Surrendered: Dy CM Sharma
Commenting on the recent statement issued by Maoists, deputy chief minister Vijay Sharma who also holds Home portfolio said that Maoists have admitted to the death of over 300 cadres within a year, however, a larger and more important development: "The real issue is not how many Maoists have been killed, but how many have surrendered or have been arrested.
That number stands close to 3,000, significantly weakening their network.

He added that many Maoists have been neutralized or rehabilitated, marking a decisive shift in the state's counter-insurgency strategy.
The Maoists' statement framed the losses as part of a broader campaign of "resistance" against the state, vowing that their struggle, rooted in Maoist ideology and a commitment to protracted people's war, would continue despite the setbacks.
It accused govt forces of targeting injured and unarmed cadres during combing operations and claimed that morale within their guerrilla ranks remains high.
Maoists To Observe 'Martyrs Week'
Maoist Central Committee has also called for a widespread observance of "Shaheedi Saptah" (Martyrs' Week) from July 28 to Aug 3, urging cadres and supporters to hold memorials in villages, towns, and forests, distribute literature, posters, and organize cultural tributes like songs and plays, propagate the life stories of the deceased leaders as revolutionary role models, encourage youth from oppressed communities to join the movement.
The booklet repeatedly urges members to reject surrender and rehabilitation policies of the state and to continue resisting what it describes as "Brahmanical Hindutva fascism" and "imperialist proxy wars."
They named the prominent cadres they lost over the past year including Basavaraju (Nambala Kesava Rao), 71, the party's General Secretary and a veteran of 51 years in the movement, killed in an encounter in Bastar on May 21, Vivek (Prayag Manjhi), 66, a Central Committee member from Jharkhand, killed in Bokaro, Chalapathy (Ramachandra Reddy), 62, a senior strategist, killed in Gariaband in Chhattisgarh, Uday, 56, and Sharma, 96, a long-time ideologue from Punjab, who died of illness and Neethi, Rupesh, Chaite, and Karthik — all senior leaders from Dandakaranya and Odisha zones — were also listed among the deceased.
Police officials have claimed in recent months that the Maoist movement is at its weakest in decades, citing rising numbers of surrenders, weapon seizures, and steady dismantling of PLGA (People's Liberation Guerrilla Army) formations.

Gadchiroli's Maraknar gets its first-ever bus service since Independence
Residents of Maraknar—in Gadchiroli district on the foothills of Abujmarh which had no access to public transport until now— got a reason to rejoice as an MSRTC bus made inroads into this remote village on Wednesday, the first time since Independence. Until last year, residents had to walk five to six hours through dense forests to reach Kothi, the nearest village with bus connectivity. Although a road upto Markanar was built last year, bus services began only on Wednesday. Over 1,200 people, including students, patients, and farmers, are expected to benefit from the bus service. According to Gadchiroli police, the new bus route from Markanar to Aheri will also benefit nearby villages such as Murumbhushi, Phulanar, Koparshi, Poyarkothi, and Gundurwahi, which for long did not have access to public transport. The initiative was made possible through the concerted efforts of Gadchiroli Police and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). Gram Patil of Maraknar Jhuru Malu Mattami inaugurated the bus while CRPF Assistant Commandant Avinash Chaudhary and police sub-inspector Dilip Gawali of Kothi police station formally flagged it off. The moment was celebrated with the distribution of sweets by the police. Located just 6km from the Chhattisgarh border in the Bhamragad sub-division, Maraknar is one of several villages now benefiting from recent development under police protection. Roads like the one from Kothi to Maraknar were completed last year, and the ongoing Maraknar to Murumbhushi road has opened up long-isolated areas in the region. A mobile tower was also installed in Maraknar recently, improving communication in the village. On February 9 this year, villagers unanimously passed a resolution refusing to support Maoists in any way. Subsequently development work was expedited under the civic action programmes by the Gadchiroli Police Force. In recent years, the Gadchiroli Police Force has facilitated the construction of over 420km of roads and 60 bridges, despite security threats. Earlier this year, similar services were launched from Gatta-Gardewada-Wangeturi and from Katezari to Gadchiroli, also aimed at easing life in some of the most difficult terrains. This initiative was the result of efforts led by PSI Dilip Gawali, CRPF personnel and Kothi police in Gadchiroli. The initiative was guided and supported by senior officials of Gadchiroli, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Neelotpal, Additional SPs M Ramesh, Satya Sai Karthik, Gokul Raj G, and DySP Vishal Nagargoje, along with SDPO Bhamragad Amar Mohite.

Death of Vipanjika & child: Kerala HC seeks Centre's response on plea for repatriation of bodies
Kochi: High court on Wednesday sought instructions from the Union govt on a petition seeking the repatriation of the mortal remains of Vipanjika Maniyan, a native of Keralapuram in Kollam, and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Vaibhavi, who were found dead in Sharjah, UAE. Justice N Nagaresh was considering the petition by S Sheela, the maternal aunt of Vipanjika. Besides repatriation, Sheela has also sought a directive for a fair and proper investigation into the deaths, alleging that Vipanjika had suffered persistent mental harassment, emotional abuse and threats at the hands of her husband, Nidheesh Mohan, and other in-laws. HC instructed the petitioner to implead Nidheesh Mohan as he is the legal claimant concerning decisions on the repatriation of mortal remains. The petition will be further considered on Thursday. According to the petitioner, she is currently the only close relative available in Kerala, as Vipanjika's mother, Shylaja, has travelled to Sharjah to facilitate the repatriation process, while the deceased's only sibling resides in Canada. Vipanjika and her daughter were reportedly found hanging at their residence in Sharjah on July 8. RAIPUR: The third day of the Monsoon Session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly witnessed sharp exchanges and heated debates, particularly over the rising cases of cybercrime in the state. BJP MLA targeted the government, alleging gross negligence and delay in action despite the alarming surge in cyber frauds across the state. Raising the issue during the Question Hour in the House, senior BJP MLA Sunil Soni questioned the government's inaction, stating, 'Cyber frauds are being reported across the state every day. Thousands have fallen victim, and in some tragic cases, people have even committed suicide. Yet, not a single cyber expert has been appointed so far. The situation is dire and demands immediate attention.' BJP MLAs Ajay Chandrakar and Rajesh Munat also raised concerns. Chandrakar demanded clarity on how many cyber commandos had been trained and how many appointments had been made. Sharma reiterated that the recruitment of specialists was 'in process,' but failed to give a timeline. 'The cyber experts are being empanelled under the IT Act while batch of six trained cyber experts including an IPS are already on job as experts. This is a continuous process and appointments will be done.' Munat cited figures indicating Rs 107 crore had been siphoned off through cyber fraud in the state, of which only about Rs 3 crore had been recovered. He demanded the appointment of a senior officer to oversee the situation. Sharma responded that recovery of funds is subject to court procedures and that an IG-level officer has already been appointed for cybercrime. In response to a query on arrests made between January 2024 and June 2025, Sharma said three bank-related fraud cases had led to the imprisonment of seven accused, from Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur. While the cybercrime debate dominated the session, Opposition Congress also raised the issue of completion of work and payments under PM Awas Yojana and MNREGA. Leader of Opposition Dr Charan Das Mahant questioned the state's handling of PM housing benefits, especially in cases where houses were allegedly marked complete despite missing toilets. He asked if the completion is considered and payments were done only upon construction of house, or MNREGA work or building of toilets. Deputy CM Vijay Sharma defended by attributing past delays to the previous government and claimed that under CM Vishnu Deo Sai, all pending payments had been cleared right from year 2011. In further exchanges, Mahant raised concerns about fund delays in MNREGA, citing specific districts like Jashpur and Bijapur. Sharma responded that all labour payments were made by June 30, but agreed to verify any discrepancies if provided with documentation, mainly in interior regions of Bijapur, where bank accounts might not be functional. Mahant reacted stating that he has got complaints about completed houses under PMAY, the payments were which were stalled by claiming they were incomplete and they were trying to 'fool' the govt. Sharma replied that Mahant's comment was very hurtful to him while he's ready with all the documents that shows how Congress delayed the PMAY construction despite approval from the Centre. This was followed by noisy scenes as opposition members objected Sharma's reply. Assembly Speaker Raman Singh then said the word 'bewakoof' was abolished and it should not be used any further in the House.
