Celtic vs Al Ahli LIVE score and goal updates from Como Cup clash in Italy

Daily Record2 days ago
After Thursday's bruising against Ajax, Celtic will be desperate to bounce back with a win as they round off their Italian tour against Al Ahli.
Brendan Rodgers' side were flying high after pre-season wins over Newcastle and Sporting Lisbon, but they were brought crashing back down to earth in Lake Como as the Dutch giants handed out a 5-1 hammering.
It was a sore one to take, and while the result doesn't mean much on paper, the performance laid bare the glaring holes in Celtic's squad. Now it's about a response. Tonight's third-place shootout in the Como Cup might be a glorified friendly, but there's still pride on the line.
Rodgers will shuffle the pack in the final dress rehearsal before the serious stuff begins next week. There could be a first glimpse of new Bhoy Shin Yamada if the Japanese striker's paperwork is finally cleared, while the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston will be looking to build fitness after returning from injury.
But standing in Celtic's way are Saudi Pro League giants Al Ahli, who boast a squad dripping with quality. Riyad Mahrez, Franck Kessié and Edouard Mendy are just a few of the superstar names in their ranks. And while they're not expected to field a full-strength side, the Hoops will still be in for a stern test.

Sutton: Celtic need to start spending
It was an honest answer to a straightforward question. And it highlighted just where Celtic are right now.
Brendan Rodgers was asked the other night about Yang Hyun-jun's future with Norwich looking to land the winger on loan.
He said he can't even think about letting him go right now because Yang is a current starter.
Think about that. No disrespect to the player. He's shown some positive signs he can be a decent enough squad player at Celtic.
But let's be honest, if you had said a few months ago he'd be going out on loan, there wouldn't have been too many folk complaining.
Yet now he's a starter. If that isn't a warning, then I don't know what is. So they can't afford to let Yang go but they could allow Nicolas Kuhn to leave without a replacement lined up? What is going on here with Celtic?

Who could feature for Celtic tonight?
Expect Brendan Rodgers to ring the changes.
Celtic fielded arguably the strongest team they have at their disposal - minus Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston - in the 5-1 trouncing to Ajax.
USA stopper CCV came off the bench in the second-half as he made his first appearance of the season following his comeback from injury, but looked rusty. The defender could be handed more valuable minutes tonight, perhaps from the very start.
Canada right-back Alistair Johnston may also return the the fold in the final warm-up match before next week's big Premiership kick-off at home to St Mirren.
Here's how we predict the Bhoys will line up: Sinisalo; Donovan, Carter-Vickers, Trusty, Inamura; Bernardo, Engels, McCowan; Forrest, Kenny, Tilio.

Who are Al-Ahli?
Celtic face a formidable opponent in Saudi Arabian moneybags Al-Ahli.
Bossed by ex-RB Salzburg manager Matthias Jaissle, Al-Ahli are the reigning AFC Champions League holders.
Star-studded Al-Ahli boast some massive names in their ranks - including Riyad Mahrez, Ivan Toney, Frank Kessie and Allan Saint-Maximin.
And they've just sold former Liverpool hero Roberto Firmino to Qatar Stars League champions, Al-Sadd.
So yeah, this will be a difficult test for the Hoops.
Here's how Al-Ahli lined up in Wednesday's 3-1 defeat to Como:
Al-Ahli: Mendy; Ibañez, Mahrez, Alex, Galeno, Eid, Demiral, Saad, Rayan, Kessié, Alla.

Ajax star makes feelings clear amid 'difficult' transfer negotiations with Chelsea

Chelsea are keen to sign a new left-back to challenge Marc Cucurella and have opened talks with Ajax to sign 19-year-old star Jorrel Hato, who sat out of their game on Sunday Jorrel Hato asked to be left out of Ajax's friendly against Como on the weekend because he's in negotiations to join Chelsea. Hato has been eyed by a number of Premier League sides this summer after catching the eye of scouts and Chelsea are in pole position to sign him. ‌ The 19-year-old defender, who can play at centre-back and left-back, has already made 111 appearances for the Dutch giants. He still has three years left on his contract with Ajax, but it now seems likely he will leave this summer. ‌ Liverpool and Arsenal have both been credited with interest in the youngster whose versatility and experience make him an attractive prospect. Ajax are braced for his exit after Hato made it clear to head coach John Heitinga that he would rather not play against on Sunday. ‌ That's according to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, who report that negotiations with Chelsea remain 'difficult' despite the player's desire to leave. Ajax are understood to be seeking a fee of between €55-60million (£48m-£52.5m) for Hato, while Chelsea are aiming for a figure closer to £40m. Hato has now missed two straight pre-season matches for Ajax, having also sat out of the previous game against Celtic. Heitinga had claimed his first absence was due to a lack of match fitness, but it is clear that more is going on. Chelsea want a left-back to challenge Marc Cucurella, with Ben Chilwell, Renato Veiga and Ishe Samuels-Smith all leaving this summer. They opened negotiations for the 2024/25 Eredivisie Talent of the Season last week and are hoping to progress them this week. 'Yes, the club [Chelsea] have contacted Ajax,' Hato's agent Humphry Nijman told De Telegraaf on Wednesday. Hato appears to have changed his tune over the past month, having previously declared himself to be 'at home' in Amsterdam. He played 50 times last season as Ajax came up just short of rivals PSV Eindhoven in the league and appeared determined to kick on. ‌ 'The smartest thing is to look ahead to pre-season, that's what I do,' Hato told the club website. 'Of course you want to achieve things in the end: the Champions League, a World Cup and a European Championship, I still have plenty of time. I don't think I absolutely have to win the Champions League in two years. 'In the Dutch league, you have to show how good you are against the big clubs. Ultimately, I have to continue to develop the things I am already good at, so that it becomes top. How do I describe my time at Ajax? Ajax is home for me. I just feel at home here.'

These are the top Scottish transfer stories, rumours and gossip on Monday morning, including the latest news from Rangers, Celtic, Hibs and the Scotland national team. Hibs dealt Triantis blow Hibs hopes of bringing Nectar Triantis back to Easter Road this summer are looking 'increasingly unlikely' according to a report from the Daily Record. A standout player for the capital outfit after joining on loan from Sunderland last summer, head coach David Gray is keen on reuniting with the 22-year-old midfielder, with Hibs seeking a permanent deal for Triantis. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris had provided an update on the Aussie midfielder at the weekend, who was absent from the Black Cats squad in their 3-0 friendly defeat to Hearts at the weekend for Craig Gordon's testimonial. 'All I can say right now is that we are trying our best to improve the team,' said Le Bris. 'We will have to see what happens. If you look at the Hearts game, then it looks as though we are far away from where we need to be. That is clear. But at the same time, it is always a work in progress.' However, while Triantis may still leave the Stadium of Light this summer, the report claims the chances of him joining Hibs are growing slimmer by the day due to the player's 'significant wage increase' as a result of the Sunderland's promotion back to the English Premier League. Clubs in the EFL Championship, German Bundesliga and MLS are believed to be eyeing a move for the Australian. Sunderland defender Nectar Triantis is a wanted man this summer. | Chris Fryatt Scotland star 'opens talks' Motherwell wonderkid Lennon Miller is edging closer to the Fir Park exit door, according to a report from transfer guru Nicolò Schira. The teenager midfielder is in the final year of his contract, and has been linked with a move to Celtic, Sunderland and clubs in the German Bundesliga this summer after impressing on his full international debut vs Liechtenstein in June. Head coach Jens Berthel Askou had denied denied the player was close to a departure last Friday, saying 'he's still a Motherwell player and we're very happy to have him here.' However, it now looks like the 18-year-old could be joining international teammate Lewis Ferguson at Bologna, after the Coppa Italia champions were said to have opened negotiations with Motherwell over a deal that would see him join I Rossoblu. The report states that talks are ongoing between the two clubs, with Miller offered a contract until 2029 at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium, with the option to deal for a further year. The 38-year-old veteran had been strongly tipped to move to Glasgow rivals Rangers earlier this summer, after bringing his 13-year stay at the King Power Stadium to an end in June, though no move to Ibrox materialised. The report claims that West Ham United are ready to offer Vardy a route back to the English Premier League, with head coach Graham Potter a big admirer of the player, though he intends to use him more as an impact substitute at the London Stadium. His former boss at Leicester, Rodgers is said to be 'weighing up' the decision to launch a bid for the experienced free agent, with the Hoops head coach keen to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the Scottish Premiership opener against St Mirren later this week. Jamie Vardy has interest from Celtic, according to a fresh report. | Getty Images Rangers 'agree fee' Rangers are closing in on their eighth signing of the summer after agreeing a deal with Go Ahead Eagles for winger Oliver Antman, as per numerous reports. The 23-year-old, who is valued at around £5million, was one of the Eredivisie's standout players last season, but is set to become Russell Martin's newest summer arrival at Ibrox, with a deal likely to be completed 'in the next 24 to 48 hours.' Linked to Sheffield United earlier in the window, it appears Rangers have stolen a march on the Blades in the race for Antman, who scored seven goals and assisted a further 17 for his side last season. It is claimed that the two clubs came to an agreement over a transfer fee over the weekend, and contracts talks with the player have progressed quickly. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad
