Eamonn Holmes 'booed and heckled' on stage as he accepts award at TRIC ceremony

Daily Mirror24-06-2025
At the 2025 TRIC Awards, former This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes accepted an award for Best News - but he was met with very mixed reactions
Eamonn Holmes encountered a tense atmosphere at Tuesday's Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) awards as he collected the News award on behalf of GB News Breakfast.
The 65-year-old presenter used a wheelchair ramp to access the stage, where he expressed gratitude to the production team and viewers. However, the moment was marred by audible boos from some attendees.

A source present at the event told MailOnline: 'After GB News Breakfast was announced as the winner, there were a few boos around the room. Because of his wheelchair, Eamonn needed a ramp to get on stage.'

Despite the reaction, Eamonn delivered a touching tribute to fellow presenter Charli Peters, who had earlier won the News Presenter award for his investigative work on grooming gangs in the UK.
'It was a nice moment, seeing Eamonn pay tribute to a colleague,' the insider added. 'But someone in the audience heckled for Eamonn to 'get off,' which made the end of his speech quite awkward.'
It remains uncertain whether Eamonn heard the heckling. He concluded his speech warmly, saying: 'For the thousands of people who voted, that is brilliant for us so we say thank you, thank you, thank you, to anyone who did bother to vote."
This marks the second year running that Eamonn has accepted the TRIC News award. Last year, he made his appearance with the aid of a walker and hinted at personal challenges, stating: 'So I got two things in my back that I didn't want,' seemingly referencing his medical procedure and his recent split from former co-host Ruth Langsford.

Elsewhere at the ceremony, former Love Island star Tasha Ghouri shared her thoughts on her career direction following her recent split from Andrew Le Page, whom she met on the ITV2 dating show in 2022. The couple, who made it to the Love Island final, ended their relationship after more than two and a half years together.
Speaking at the TRIC Awards in London, the 26-year-old said she is focusing on developing her presenting career rather than returning to reality dating shows. 'It's not for me personally,' Tasha admitted, referring to programs like Love Island: All Stars or Celebs Go Dating.

She added, 'I know people find love on these shows but my dating shows are closed. I'm going down a different path now. It's something I'm really passionate about. I'm happily single but I'm open to love. I'd love a family.'
Tasha's comments underline her desire to move beyond the reality TV spotlight and explore new opportunities in presenting, signaling a fresh chapter in her career.

Love Island fans slam producers for giving villa girl ‘winners edit' as they predict finale outcome

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LOVE Island fans are brutally slamming producers for giving a villa girl the 'winners edit'. Many fans are already predicting the outcome of the Love Island finale, which is slated to take place in a couple of weeks. Her main connection was with Harrison, but the pair were on-and-off and had a tumultuous time before Casa Amor. During Casa Amor Toni then formed a connection with hunky boy Cach while Harrison brought back Lauren. Toni and Harrison then made their way back for each other before splitting for a final time. Harrison later left the villa after Lauren was dumped from the show, with the pair having been seen out and about with each other packing on the PDA. But fans think that Toni might be getting the "winners edit" by show bosses. After Tuesday night's episode, one fan on Reddit asked: "Is Toni getting a winners edit?" They added: "Is it just me that thinks she has been getting blessed despite her actions and behaviour being the complete opposite? "I'm actually gobsmacked they've left out the clip of her and Harrison on the terrace. "This is very confusing because the clip of her and Harrison on the terrace will show the truth and how she strung him along for 4 days but it's Shakira they want to focus on." Awkward moment Toni is PIED by Cach after trying to kiss him - as new Love Island triangle forms Someone agreed with the original poster, writing: "Yes…she was protected from being dumped at the megan dumping, her movie clip was a cringe best moments comp. "She has the most egregiously omitted grafties clip… i am onto these producers…" A second then agreed: "I'm starting to realise more things like how they brought an American citizen when she was on the verge of being dumped." While a third penned: "Toni was probably cast for love island us but the producers from both ends agreed she would better suit the uk version based on the storylines both production teams had in mind for their shows." But a fourth noted: "I think it's an attempt to draw in more American viewers for future seasons." Last night, Irish stunner Megan and Spanish lad Blu appeared in a teaser for tonight's episode, with them poised to return imminently. Iain Stirling revealed the incredible comeback and The Sun understands the pair entered the villa last night. The public previously turned on Megan after she dumped Tommy for Conor in her final few days. Megan was voted least favourite girl after dumping Tommy for Conor, before being axed. Meanwhile, Blu was dumped after being left single - and had to fight for his place opposite bombshell Shea.

Rylan Clark says 'I actually got pretty worried' as he shares intimate confession

Rylan Clark has opened up about his sex life and relationships, admitting he has a 'worry' when it comes to being intimate with someone after the breakdown of his marriage Rylan Clark has opened up about a personal "worry" following the end of his marriage, revealing how it's affected his approach to new relationships. The BBC Radio 2 presenter parted ways with his ex-husband, Dan Neal, in 2021. ‌ This revelation comes after Rylan admitted to being unfaithful earlier in their relationship. Despite acknowledging that the split was "the right thing to happen," he admits to experiencing a "full-on breakdown" post-separation. ‌ Now, the one-time X Factor contestant is dipping his toes back into the dating pool—yet he's noticed a significant shift in his feelings toward intimacy with other men. ‌ On his podcast How to Be in Love, Rylan, 36, shared: "I have found that, since the breakdown of my marriage, if I've gone on any dates or started seeing people, when I've had sex with them, I lose interest pretty quickly." He continued, expressing his concerns: "I actually got pretty worried about a year or two ago because I thought, hang on a minute, I don't remember this from BM—I call it, before marriage. I don't remember having sex with someone, or orgasming with someone, climaxing, and then after that thinking, 'Oh, I'm just not bothered now'." ‌ Neuroscientist Dr Tara Swart weighed in on Rylan's situation, suggesting that the emotional trauma from his marriage could be influencing his current feelings post-intimacy. She responded: "So now that you've put it like that—with the BM—that probably, because you were so hurt, something has changed for you." The former Celebrity Big Brother champ shared his fears about commitment, saying: "I did worry for a long time that, almost like I was frightened to commit or open myself fully to someone, because going through a break-up is quite hard." ‌ Rylan has been open about feeling like a "failure" following his divorce. In a heart-to-heart with ex-Love Island star Tasha Ghouri, he confessed: "When I went through my divorce, I had a full-on breakdown because it wasn't just us." He continued, revealing the weight of public perception: "It felt like it wasn't just us, even though it was just me and my ex. I felt that everyone's going to think this of me. Everyone's going to think, 'Oh look, his life isn't perfect. Oh look, he's failed like that.' I just felt like a failure." In a candid chat with Stephen Fry, Rylan expressed how he grappled with the public scrutiny during his split, admitting: "There was part of me that just felt like a complete and utter failure. I felt like I'd failed personally, but I felt like I'd failed publicly on behalf of—the gays! You know, I'm not, I'm not 'head gay', it's not that." Looking ahead to future romance, Rylan opened up in his autobiography, TEN: The Decade That Changed My Future, where he reflects: "I got in a relationship quite young and just went with it. Now I know I'm my own person. I'm not going to settle for something that's not right. In a way, it's been a bit of a gift. "I'm happy to have sex with someone and that's that, that's not a problem. But do I want more? Of course I want more. Am I going to enjoy myself on the way? Abso-f***ing-lutely."

This Morning viewers left cringing as Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary do karaoke

This Morning viewers were left wondering just what was happening when its hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary burst into song during Wednesday's episode This Morning viewers were left wondering just what was happening during an unexpected karaoke segment on Wednesday morning. ‌ Hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary were joined by Tom Swarbrick and Camilla Tominey for a chat about the nation's favourite karaoke songs. Dermot gave a quick rendition of Bon Jovi classic Livin' On A Prayer, whilst Camillla struggled through I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston. ‌ Alison had got up to perform River Deep Mountain High, but it appeared to have been the wrong song as she sat back down and Dermot exclaimed: "God knows what is going to happen now!" Things took an even more surprising turn when all four hosts took it upon themselves to perform Mr. Brightside by The Killers, during which Dermot stormed across the studio and jumped onto the sofa. ‌ Next up, Tom performed How You Remind Me by Nickelback before Alison noted they had 'run out of time' for any more as she sent the show to an ad break. But the bizarre segment did not go down entirely well with viewers, who took to social media to give their opinion. One viewer wrote simply claimed they had 'died from cringe' after watching the karaoke session, and another wondered: "What am I watching here?" A third social media user demanded: "What have we done to endure this punishment!" and another said: "What the actual f***am i watching? god oh almighty", whilst another pleaded with the broadcaster to "make it stop". One viewer compared the segment to "bad X Factor auditions", and took particular aim at Dermot, who hosted the talent show during its height in the late 2000s. ‌ They wrote: "That was a performance worthy of an X Factor 2010 YouTube compilation of bad auditions", whilst another quipped: "What a bad day to have ears". Another claimed: "Dermot is forgetting he is on TV!" But it wasn't all bad, as one viewer found the fun in the light-hearted segment, and they wrote: "Dermot and Allison are so unserious on #ThisMorning I love it, they treat it like a day out!" Moments later, when Coronation Street actress and West End star Jodie Prenger was preparing to go behind the scenes of London's new musical Hercules, Dermot joked: "God, we could have done with them during karaoke," whilst Alison noted what a 'beautiful' voice the soap star has. ‌ The whole item came off the back of a study that revealed the greatest singalong songs of all time. Put together by Oxford professor Dr Tom Crawford, the custom formula factored in how fast the beat was, number of verses, chorus repeats and even the release date of the song. "My research showed a preference for a faster pace, with an average beats per minute of 126, as well as a ratio of three chorus repetitions for every two verses,' he said. 'This fits with the standard structure of most pop songs - hence why you'll see your favourites scoring highly!' Livin' On A Prayer took top spot with a score of 91 out of a possible 100, closely followed by Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance with Somebody (90). In third place was Oasis' iconic Don't Look Back In Anger (89). Dr Crawford devised his formula using research from a poll of 2,000 karaoke lovers, commissioned by mobile giant Three and suicide prevention charity Samaritans. ‌ The study found 90 per cent of people feel happier after a sing-along, with 81 per cent getting an emotional uplift and 70 per cent finding it therapeutic. And the research also identified the best year for karaoke gold. 'With ABBA dominating the 70s, through to Adele in the 2010s, the average release year of a karaoke classic is 1995,' Dr Crawford said. 'This captures the boyband craze, as well as Brit pop with Oasis, and girl power in the form of the Spice Girls, showing there's some serious maths behind a killer karaoke belter!' Three and Samaritans are running the Kathartic Karaoke initiative to support people with their mental health There will be a special booth at the Latitude Festival in Suffolk (July 24 to 27) and The Mound at Edinburgh Fringe (August 15 and 16). Nicki Lyons, Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer at VodafoneThree, said: 'As the Official Connectivity Partner of some of the UK's biggest festivals this summer, we understand the power and importance of making connections that matter, whether it's through technology or shared experiences like music. We are delighted to be partnering with Samaritans for the first time at music festivals, to create joyful spaces for people to connect to one another and experience our 'Kathartic Karaoke' for themselves.'
