Demand for 4 Rajyarani coaches for passengers from Manmad

Time of India3 days ago
Nashik: The Bhusawal Divisional Railway Manager (Commercial) has urged Central Railway (CR) to earmark four coaches of the Nanded–Mumbai Rajyarani Express exclusively for passengers boarding between Manmad and Mumbai.
Responding to growing demand from passengers and representations from elected officials, the Bhusawal division has written to CR headquarters requesting that at least four coaches be made available for booking from Manmad. These bookings would be managed by the Bhusawal division, which cited a significant volume of daily passengers commuting between Manmad, Nashik, and Mumbai.
"Given the representation by passengers from Nashik and recommendations from elected representatives, we have requested the CR to take up the issue with the South Central Railway (SCR) for the reservation of the coach, as the train is handled by the Nanded division of the Telangana-based SCR," said a senior officer from the Bhusawal Divisional Railway Manager's office.
The demand comes in the wake of recent changes by SCR, which decided to remove two general second-class seating coaches from the 17611 Nanded–CSMT Rajyarani Express. As a result, the train will now have only four general seating coaches, with the addition of one sleeper coach and an air-conditioned chair car. These changes are expected to take effect from August 5. The train departs Nanded at 10:00 pm, reaches Nashik at 6:00 am, and arrives in Mumbai at 10:00 am.

According to railway data, around 100 passengers board from Manmad and approximately 140 from Nashik Road daily with current tickets, in addition to nearly 150 pass-holders. A large share of these are daily commuters and office-goers who rely on the Rajyarani Express to reach offices by 10:30 am, unlike the Panchavati Express, which arrives at CSMT around 10:45 am and is therefore not a feasible option for many.
"The occupancy of all general coaches (six existing) of this train combined is 92% from Manmad and 130% from Nashik towards Mumbai. Slashing down the number of coaches by two is going to impact passengers. We have therefore sought the opening of the four coaches from Manmad such that the SCR will issue reservations for those coaches till Manmad only and not beyond. That business will be handled by the Bhusawal Division of CR," the officer added.

Akasa Air To See Over 200 Boeing Deliveries Over The Next Years

New Delhi: Akasa Air expects a pick up in plane deliveries from Boeing over the coming years and to reach its target for a fleet of 226 aircraft by 2032, up from 30 currently, chief financial officer Ankur Goel said on Tuesday. The airline expects available seat kilometers - a measure of passenger-carrying capacity - to increase by more than 30% this fiscal year, on top of 50% growth the year before. Mr Goel did not provide a year-by-year breakdown of deliveries, but said they were expected to increase over the period, in a press briefing in Delhi. Earlier this year, Reuters reported that Akasa Air's top executives were privately criticising Boeing for delayed plane deliveries and were scrambling to assuage hundreds of anxious pilots who were idle without work. The Mumbai-based low-cost airline, which started operations about three years ago, has ordered 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Deliveries have been delayed as the 737 MAX programme faced regulatory scrutiny after a mid-air cabin panel blowout last year and suffered the effects of a seven-week workers' strike. Mr Goel did not provide profit or revenue data for fiscal year 2024-25. The year before, Akasa's revenue quadrupled to $356 million, but its loss widened to $194 million from $86 million. Akasa had a domestic market share of 5.3% in May, compared with the combined 90%-plus commanded by leader IndiGo and Air India Group. Akasa, started with the backing of the late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, dubbed India's Warren Buffett, went on a hiring spree and began international flights to Qatar and Saudi Arabia within two years of its launch. Despite challenges, Akasa in February raised an undisclosed amount of new capital from Indian billionaire Azim Premji's investment arm and Jhunjhunwala's family.

Ebix Tech secures ₹140 crore contract from Maharashtra Transport Corp

Ebix Technologies, Indian subsidiary of Eraaya Lifespaces, on Tuesday announced securing a ₹140 crore contract from Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation for the first state-wide rollout of the National Common Mobility Card for concessionaires in India. Once fully operational, the project is expected to clock transactional volumes to the tune of ₹2,000 crore annually, boosting the entity's digital transaction ecosystem and passenger convenience, Ebix Technologies Limited, earlier known as EbixCash, said in a statement. In November 2022, the company was awarded a contract to supply and maintain 38,622 Android-based Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) integrated with an online reservation system. This mandate has successfully facilitated the issuance of approximately 220 crore passenger tickets in the past two years, Ebix Technologies said, adding that this network spans MSRTC's fleet of over 16,000 buses, serving more than 13 crore passengers monthly across urban and rural Maharashtra. The newly-awarded National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) programme expands this partnership with a focus on smart and interoperable payments that will revolutionise how millions travel daily, it said. Spearheaded by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the initiative enables passengers to use a single smartcard across multiple transport modes, creating a truly integrated mobility ecosystem, Ebix said. "With the NCMC rollout, we are not just introducing another payment method. We are fundamentally reimagining how citizens experience everyday travel across Maharashtra," a company spokesperson said. The project includes mandatory adoption of the NCMC smartcard for all concessional passengers and pass holders on MSRTC buses, with optional availability for regular passengers, a minimum business assurance of 70 lakh NCMC cards to be sold in the first year alone, scaling to over 2 crore cards issued statewide through a network of 3,000 dedicated retail outlets established by Ebix Technologies, among others.
