Celina Jaitly Says Her Father Vikram Kumar Was "Critically Wounded" During The 1971 War: "He Lost Complete Hearing"

New Delhi:
Actress Celina Jaitly opened up about the emotional toll the current India-Pakistan situation is taking on her.
Celina is the daughter of late Colonel Vikram Kumar Jaitly and granddaughter of late Colonel Eric Francis of the Rajputana Rifles.
Reacting to recent developments, she told News18, "Hearing that Army Public School in Udhampur, a place full of my childhood memories, was attacked this weekend moved me to tears. For us, this isn't just news. It's personal, and the pain runs deep."
A few days ago, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi confirmed that Pakistan had attacked schools and medical facilities in Srinagar, Avantipura and Udhampur. The sacrifices of soldiers at the border have reminded Celina of her father's bravery during the 1971 war.
"He was just 21 when he fought in the 1971 war. He was critically wounded during the Battle of Bhaduria, sustaining severe bullet and shrapnel injuries. Despite lifelong wounds, he continued to serve the nation with unmatched pride and honour, eventually commanding the prestigious 16 Kumaon Regiment. He was awarded two Wound Medals and the Sena Medal for his bravery," she said.
Celina, who was born in the 1980s, said her upbringing was shaped by her father and grandfather's military service. "I was born in the 1980s, but as the daughter and granddaughter of frontline infantrymen, I grew up knowing that every goodbye could be the last. I saw the toll that life in uniform took on my father and grandfather - physically, emotionally, and mentally. My father lost complete hearing in one ear after an IED explosion at the age of 41, yet his loyalty to the nation never faltered. Despite hardships, we were raised with the strength and resilience of a soldier's family."
She also recently shared an old photograph on social media featuring her grandfather with General Ayub Khan, the second President of Pakistan. Recalling that post, she said, "My grandfather was a highly decorated officer, who fought valiantly in the 1962 Sino-Indian War and the 1965 Indo-Pak War. In my family, respect for the armed forces was not something taught through words; it was lived every single day."
Celina also revealed her own aspirations of joining the armed forces. "I was preparing for the Combined Defence Services Examination and AFMC even while pursuing modelling. When I won Miss India, my father and I still hoped I would eventually join the armed forces. Many women in my family have proudly served, including my aunt, who was a Navy doctor," she shared.
She added, "My desire to wear the uniform and serve remains one of my greatest unfulfilled dreams."

When Shah Rukh Khan Said He Deserved National Award For Swades Over THIS Actor

Shah Rukh Khan won his first-ever National Film Award for Best Actor on Friday, for his brilliant performance in Atlee's Jawan. The 71st National Film Awards were announced last night, and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan won Best Actor in a Leading Role for his remarkable performance in Atlee's Jawan. This marks his first-ever National Award in an acting career spanning 33 years, making it a significant milestone. Many believe Shah Rukh Khan's best chance at a National Award was in 2005 (during 52nd National Film Awards) for his role in Swades. However, that year, Saif Ali Khan won the award for Hum Tum. A throwback video that has now gone viral on social media shows that even Shah Rukh thought he deserved the award more than Saif. The throwback video is from a Tag Heuer event in the late 2000s. It shows Shah Rukh on stage with director Kunal Kohli and anchor Mandira Bedi. When Kunal asked Shah Rukh about his favourite films, Shah Rukh responded by saying he has a good heart and likes all films, heroes, and heroines. Shah Rukh praised Kunal's work, mentioning that Fanaa was very good and Hum Tum was nice. He added that Saif Ali Khan won the National Award for Hum Tum, but he felt he should have received it instead. Shah Rukh then laughed, and even Kunal Kohli smiled sheepishly at the remark. 'Fanaa was very good. I think Hum Tum was very nice. His actor won the National Award for Hum Tum when I think I should have got it, but that's another story," said Shah Rukh Khan. Check out the throwback video below! Meanwhile, fans are happy and celebrating Shah Rukh Khan's achievement; however, many are confused that the actor won for Jawan when films like Swades, Chak De India, and My Name Is Khan were snubbed. After his National Award win for Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan shared a video on social media, expressing his gratitude for the honour. 'I am overwhelmed with gratitude, pride, and humility. To be honoured with a National Award is a moment that I will cherish for a lifetime. Thank you so much to the jury, the chairman, and to the I&B ministry, and to everyone who thought I was worthy of this honour," he said. 'I want to thank all my directors and writers, especially for the year 2023. So, thank you, Raju sir, thank you, Sid, and especially, thanks to Atlee sir and his team for giving me the opportunity in Jawan and trusting me to deliver," he said. He also expressed gratitude to his wife Gauri, and their children Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Vaibhavi Merchant On Winning National Award After 26 Years: ‘It Feels Unreal'

Vaibhavi Merchant won her first National Film Award for the song Dholi Taro Dhol Baaje for the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999. Vaibhavi Merchant, renowned Choreographer, is currently on cloud nine as she has received her second National Film Award for the song Dhindora Baje Re from the film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Now, during an interview, she expressed her happiness over winning the prestigious title once again after 26 years. Not just this, Viabhavi also felt grateful to share the National Award win moment with her best friend Rani Mukerji, who won the title for the film Mrs Chatterjee Vs. Norway. Vaibhavi Merchant On Winning National Film Award Speaking to Hindustan Times, the choreographer said, 'I received my first national award when I was 21, and now I'm 49 years old and receiving it. I was too young to understand the magnitude of the honour the first time I got it. I was working nonstop, and eventually, I started to miss it. Then I was hoping that I was accomplishing something significant enough to merit that prize again." She added, 'I would always wish to earn an honour that is well-deserved and not manufactured. For me, this National Award is extremely important. I'm still in surprise that I've won this after all these years, and I'm only glad for the emotions I'm having right now." Vaibhavi Merchant On Sharing Winning Moment With Rani Mukerji The choreographer is also thrilled that she won in the same year that her best friend Rani Mukerji won her first National Film Award for Best Actress for Mrs Chatterjee Vs. Norway. 'I'm now away from my best friend Rani, who also won it this year. But it gives me so much happiness to know that she won her first and I won my second, and I'm simply overjoyed. We've known about each other's work for all the years we've been together, and this is just too sweet. I cannot express it in words," she says. Vaibhavi Merchant Feels Happy About Song's Creativity Getting Praised She further added, 'I'm not sure if I'd be as happy to get it on an item song, which is the norm. It is a highly populist mindset to give the award to a popular item song rather than the choreography. So, this time, I'm pleased that the song's creativity was recognised rather than its popularity." Vaibhavi Merchant On Her Love For Classical Art Form 'I've been doing Bharatnatyam for ten years and am still a student of the classical art form. You must understand the purity and seriousness of those creative forms, as well as what we value–our heritage and culture. There's so much we can do with what we have, and when that recognition comes from a Karan Johar platform where so many people come in to watch it in the cinema hall and you get to showcase that art form, it's incredible," said the choreographer. Helmed by Karan Johar, the film features Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra and Jaya Bachchan in the lead roles.
