Asian National Sentenced to Life for Killing Roommate in Bahrain
An Asian national has been sentenced to life in prison and will be permanently deported from Bahrain after serving his sentence, following a ruling by the High Criminal Court. The court also ordered that the items used in the crime be confiscated.
The case involved a tragic incident in which the defendant attacked his roommate with a piece of stone, repeatedly striking him on the head. The assault took place inside the shared accommodation where both men lived. The victim lost consciousness from the blows and was rushed to the hospital, but sadly passed away from his injuries.
After being notified by security authorities, the Public Prosecution quickly moved to the scene, conducted investigations, and later learned of the victim's death. A forensic expert was assigned to examine the case, and witnesses were interviewed.
The accused was arrested and questioned by the prosecution, which later referred him to trial while in custody. After reviewing the evidence and hearing the testimonies, the High Criminal Court delivered its verdict, holding the man responsible for premeditated murder.
Officials said the ruling reflects the seriousness of the crime and reaffirms Bahrain's commitment to justice and public safety.

Escaped lion shot dead in Turkey after attacking worker
TDT | Istanbul A lion that escaped a theme park near the Turkish resort of Antalya was shot dead Sunday after attacking a man, the local governor and media reports said. The lion, reportedly named Zeus, escaped his enclosure at the Land of Lions animal theme park in Manavgat, some 60 kilometres west of Antalya in the early hours of the morning, the local governor said in a statement. According to BirGun newspaper, the lion then attacked an agricultural worker called Suleiman Kir who was asleep in a pistachio field with his wife. Kir then tussled with the lion before it ran off. He was injured but not badly and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. 'We were covered with blankets to protect ourselves from mosquitoes and when the prayer call sounded, I tried to stand up but I couldn't,' he told the newspaper. 'Suddenly I felt something touch my left foot and when I eventually managed to get up, I saw it was something huge -- I thought it was a dog.' In a video posted online, he described the moments wrestling with the lion. 'We called for help but there was no-one around. As the lion was biting my calf and my neck, I grabbed him around the neck and began to squeeze, and he backed off. At that moment, the security forces came,' he said. 'If I had not been strong, I wouldn't be here right now.' Antalya's governor said in a statement that the lion had been tracked down and shot dead. 'It was not possible to catch the escaped lion alive because it posed a danger to people and the environment so it was shot,' he said, indicating that an investigation had been opened into the incident.

Gunmen on skiffs attack ship in Red Sea off Yemen: monitors
TDT | Dubai Gunmen on small boats fired rocket-propelled grenades and small arms at a commercial vessel in the Red Sea off Yemen on Sunday, monitors said, in the latest attack on the vital shipping lane. The incident occurred 51 nautical miles (94 kilometres) southwest of the Yemeni port of Hodeida, said the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations. 'The vessel has been engaged by multiple small vessels who have opened fire with small arms and self-propelled grenades. (The) armed security team have returned fire and situation is ongoing,' said UKMTO, which is run by Britain's Royal Navy. UK-based security firm Ambrey reported the merchant vessel was subsequently struck by two unmanned surface vehicles 'damaging the vessel's cargo', while two other unmanned vessels were repelled. It added the commerical ship 'was still underway'. Hodeida is controlled by Yemen's Iran-backed Huthi rebels and though no one has claimed responsibility for the assault, Ambrey said the vessel matched 'the established Huthi target profile'. Ambrey earlier reported the merchant vessel 'was approached and attacked by eight skiffs while transiting northbound in the Red Sea' before being attacked with small arms and rocket-propelled grenades.

More People Misusing Social Media In Bahrain – WhatsApp Tops The List
Recent data has revealed a noticeable rise in cases related to the misuse of communication tools especially social media in Bahrain over the past few years. In the last three years alone, the Public Prosecution has handled around 3,683 cases involving the misuse of communication platforms. In 2024, 1,408 cases were filed under the Cybercrime Prosecution, marking a 7% increase compared to 2023 (which saw 1,314 cases), while 2022 had just 961 cases. In response to the growing threat of online offenses, Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fadhel Al Buainain issued a decision in November 2022 to establish a dedicated Cybercrime Prosecution Unit. The aim was to better keep up with the evolving nature of digital crimes, speed up investigations, and strengthen the handling of digital evidence. More recently, this unit has dealt with a large number of cases where individuals—both citizens and residents—were found to be misusing social media to spread values and behaviors that are considered foreign to Bahraini society. Legal experts and lawyers voiced their support for the steps taken by the Public Prosecution and the Ministry of Interior's Cybercrime Directorate. They also agreed that, as social media usage continues to grow, stricter laws are needed to protect society from its misuse. According to new statistics compiled by Al-Ayam, WhatsApp was involved in over half of all social media abuse cases handled since 2022. Out of 2,521 total cases related to social media misuse during this period, 1,321 were linked to WhatsApp, accounting for 52% of the total. In second place was Instagram, with 605 cases (24%). TikTok came in third with 181 cases, followed by Facebook (163 cases), and X (formerly Twitter) with just 65 cases.
