Caitlin Clark, Napheesa Collier named WNBA All-Star Game captains
With the title of captain comes responsibilities. Clark and Collier will be tasked with drafting their All-Star teams playground-style from a pool of eight starters and 12 reserves. The remaining eight starters -- selected by fan votes (50%), current WNBA players (25%) and media members (25%) -- will be announced on Monday, June 30, while the 12 All-Star reserves will be selected by the league's head coaches on July 6.
The WNBA All-Star Game draft will be broadcast on "WNBA Countdown Presented by Google" on July 8.
The Fever shared a social media video of WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert announcing the news to Clark and the Fever. "Caitlin, I just want to personally congratulate you on being named captain for the 2025 WNBA All-Star team," Engelbert said over the phone, which was held by Fever head coach Stephanie White. Clark's teammates cheered and applauded. When Engelbert sent her best wishes for the upcoming 2025 WNBA Commissioner's Cup final, Clark candidly replied, "We about to get that dub Cathy."
Clark's availability for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game will be something to monitor. Clark has missed a career-high seven games this season due to injury, including the Fever's last two games due to a left groin injury. Her status for the Fever's Commissioner's Cup championship game vs. the Lynx remains unclear.

The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game will be held on July 19 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, home of the Fever, and could feature more Indiana stars. In the first returns of fan voting earlier this month, Fever center Aliyah Boston was ranked third, trailing Clark and Collier. Will Clark and Boston team up again? We'll have to wait and see.
Clark is averaging 18.2 points and 8.9 assists per game, which marks a career-high.
Collier learned she was an 2025 All-Star captain by way of her three-year-old daughter Mila, who wore a shirt that read, "Mama, you're a All-Star." Collier's husband Alex Bazzell was also involved in the unveiling, saying he's "incredibly proud. She's earned it. We're excited about it and hopefully more and more to come."

Collier has led the Lynx to a league-best 13-2 record while averaging a league-high 24.5 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game, the fourth-highest in the league. She's a frontrunner for the 2025 WNBA MVP award.
Clark and Collier faced off against each other in the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game, where Clark and Team WNBA handed the U.S. women's national team a loss before they went to the 2024 Paris Olympics and won another gold medal. Collier was held scoreless in three minutes of work off the bench for Team USA, while Clark had four points (2-of-9 FG, 0-of-7 3PT) and 10 assists in 26 minutes of work.

Bombshell theory emerges about Caitlin Clark's future that would cripple the WNBA
Caitlin Clark has been tipped to leave the WNBA behind and start her own basketball league as her popularity continues to soar beyond anything seen before. The Indiana Fever star's biographer, Christine Brennan, put forth a wild theory this week about Clark's future in the league, on the day that she was named a captain in the All-Star Game. The former Iowa sensation has driven massive ratings to the league and helped shatter attendance records as she's become the biggest name in women's hoops. And while Clark is currently starring for the Fever, Brennan thinks she could someday start her own league. 'Nike loves her. She's got Wilson, obviously. She's got Gatorade,' Brennan said. 'Even though the salary's $76,000 for a rookie - it's more this year now - she's making $28 million from Nike alone, according to the Wall Street Journal. So she's at $40 million, whatever,' Brennan said on ESPN LA when asked about the prospect. 'OK, fine, she's doing great. And if Nike said, "We're going to make the Nike-Clark league," it would obviously take a few years to get the arenas and whatever. 'But you know the TV contract. I mean, it's Caitlin. Again, the TV viewership, it's Caitlin Clark. It's not Angel [Reese] and Caitlin. It's Caitlin. It's Caitlin Clark only.' 'And I think Angel's a great rebounder and excellent at what she does, but she doesn't move the needle on TV ratings,' she continued, as she promoted 'On Her Game: Caitlin Clark and the Revolution in Women's Sports.' 'It's Caitlin. And they could do it. I think they could absolutely put it together in a couple of years. And I'll stay on that because I agree with you. It's fascinating and it's doable because of the void in the vacuum of leadership the WNBA continues to exhibit.' In no small part due to Clark's effect on the league, the WNBA secured a new 11-year media rights deal with Disney, Amazon Prime Video NBCUniversal worth a reported $2.2billion, which is set to begin in 2026. Additionally, the players' union announced last fall that players were opting out of the current collective bargaining agreement, which is set to expire this coming October. There has already been a prominent breakaway women's league since Clark joined the WNBA, as the 3-on-3 Unrivaled launched last winter. And while the league heavily recruited Clark, she ultimately declined to participate as she recharged her batteries following an extremely hectic year. While Clark has at times been at her best during her sophomore campaign, her numbers have dipped across the board and she's appeared in just nine of the Fever's 16 contests due to injury. She returned from a five-game absence from a quad injury earlier this month, but only played another five games before being ruled out again with a groin issue. Clark has missed the last two games for the Fever, with her status uncertain for the matchup against the Lynx on Tuesday night. The guard's points per game have dropped from 19.2 in her rookie year to 18.2 this season, while her three-point percentage has so far gone from 34.4 percent to 29.5 percent. Nonetheless, she was announced by the WNBA as an All-Star Game captain on Sunday after she and Napheesa Collier received the most votes. Clark and Lynx star Collier will have the opportunity to draft from a pool of the other WNBA All-Stars to create two teams ahead of the festivities next month. The WNBA All-Star Game will take place on July 19 at Clark's home stadium, Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Minute's silence held at Croke Park for Crossmaglen's Tom McKay
Mr McKay, who passed away following a short illness on Sunday, was the public relations officer (PRO) of Crossmaglen Rangers GAA club for 20 years. The County Down native became PRO at 60 in 1996 and stayed in the role until he was 81. In a past interview with this paper, he said he took the job on a 'temporary basis.' He was part of a key period for the club when Crossmaglen Rangers won 13 Armagh Senior Football Championships in a row from 1996 to 2008 - a record the club still holds. During this time, the team also won seven Ulster Club Championship titles and four All-Ireland Club Championship titles. Crossmaglen Rangers said they were 'deeply saddened' by his passing and paid tribute to his long service. The club stated: 'The Executive, players, members and supporters of Crossmaglen Rangers are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a true Ranger. 'Tom, PRO for 20 years, lotto promoter, a true supporter and dear friend- he represented the black and amber with pride and distinction, and we thank Tom for his long and dedicated service. 'He was immensely proud of his daughters, Aine and Sinead, son-in-law Joey, and grandson Aaron when they togged out for the Rangers.' Newry Shamrocks GAC, where he also served as a former secretary prior to his tenure in Crossmaglen, paid tribute to the 'true Gael.' In a statement, the club wrote: 'Tom dedicated countless years to our club, working tirelessly behind the scenes with quiet strength, humility, and deep passion for our games. 'His commitment shaped generations of players and volunteers, and his legacy will live on in every corner of Páirc Esler. 'Later, Tom continued his remarkable service with Crossmaglen Rangers, where he was equally admired and respected. Few individuals leave a mark on two great clubs — but Tom was no ordinary man.' The club added: 'To his family, we offer our heartfelt condolences. Thank you for sharing him with us. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Rest easy, Tom. You will never be forgotten.' Among other roles, Mr McKay served as chair of the board of governors at St Joseph's High School, where he helped campaign for a new school building. The new facility opened in 2023. At the time, he described the new school as the end of a 'long struggle' to upgrade the 60-year-old building, aiming to 'enhance facilities and ensure young people of South Armagh are educated in a building fit for purpose.' St Joseph's High School also thanked Mr McKay for his efforts, saying, 'We would like to take this opportunity to thank Tom for everything he has done for St Joseph's High School.' For those wishing to pay their respects, the funeral will take place on Wednesday at St Patrick's Church, Crossmaglen, with Requiem Mass at 11am.
