RedMagic Astra benchmark results
First, let us introduce the hardware. The Astra has a 9.06' LTPO display with up to 165Hz refresh rate and 2,400 x 1,504px resolution. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite – the overclocked AC variant with its two prime CPU cores running at 4.47GHz and its GPU at 1.2GHz (compared to 4.32GHz and 1.1GHz, respectively, for the base AB variant).

Our unit has 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage, though the tablet is available in different configurations ranging from 12GB to 24GB of RAM and between 256GB and 1TB storage. And we should mention that there is an active-cooling fan and liquid metal with superior heat conductivity. However, we will leave sustained performance tests for a later date.
Starting with Geekbench 6, the RedMagic Astra loses out in both single and multi-core performance to another Snapdragon 8 Elite slate, the OnePlus Pad 3. It does beat a previous RedMagic model, the Nova tablet (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3), by 16% and 13% in single and multi-core tests, respectively.
Since this is a gaming tablet, the graphics test perhaps matters the most. Here the RedMagic Astra essentially matches the OnePlus Pad 3. Compared less powerful slates with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, the Astra got double the points. And keep in mind that this test runs at a fixed resolution (2160p), so the others don't have the excuse of higher resolution displays (and their displays are indeed higher resolution, in part because they are larger).
The Astra ends things with a victory in AnTuTu. Its score is 17% higher than the OnePlus and 22% higher than the Nova. This score is close to double what you would get from a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 powered tablet.
Those are some competitive results, considering that the RedMagic Astra is fairly affordable with prices starting at $470/€470/£410.
We haven't tested whether the fan has an appreciable effect on the benchmark results yet. That said, you can have a look at how much (or rather how little) it did for the RedMagic 10S Pro. The 10S Pro is a phone, sure, but it uses the same Snapdragon 8 Elite (AC) chipset with the same liquid metal and fan cooling setup.

OnePlus built its name by offering flagship performance that undercut its key competitors and the OnePlus Pad 3 is no exception. As a sequel to last year's OnePlus Pad 2, it goes all out on the hardware front with an even larger display, the latest flagship Qualcomm chipset and a higher capacity battery. That's all achieved in a thinner aluminum body, which now measures just 6mm, and OnePlus also added an updated eight-speaker setup. We're glad that OnePlus went with a less obtrusive look this time around and opted for a more discreet bump in the corner as opposed to the previous OnePlus Pads and their larger circular cutouts. There's a total of 8 speakers onboard the Pad 3. As for connectivity, you get Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, but there's no GPS or cellular connectivity yet again. OnePlus Pad 3 comes with an upgraded 12,140mAh battery, which is a nice boost over its predecessor. The charging support is also updated and now supports up to 80W speeds. Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra to ship with Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and One UI 8.5
Leaked firmware files reveal that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will likely launch with the Snapdragon 8 Elite's successor next year and will ship with One UI 8.5 based on Android 16 out of the box. This appears to be in line with a recent report by Ice Universe revealing a shift in Samsung's software update strategy that gives the foldables the latest One UI iteration and polishing it for the Galaxy S series. The firmware file has been found on Samsung's server, which means the tech giant is already working on developing One UI 8.5 for its future S26 lineup. The firmware reads PMK8850 serial number, which likely refers to Qualcomm's next-generation flagship chipset. Given that the S25 Ultra ships with Snapdragon 8 Elite, also referred to as 8750 in its own firmware, it's probably safe to assume that the S26 Ultra will continue to use Qualcomm's chip. That doesn't mean all three Galaxy S phones will be powered by the Snapdragon, though. The S26+ and the vanilla S26 will likely feature the company's upcoming Exynos 2600 SoC, which promises solid CPU and GPU performance.
